4.0 out of 5 stars Attractive and functional
This is a 380 ml coffee mug, a tad over 12 oz. It seems smaller so I loaded it up. Actually holds about 12.5 oz. That's the point of the review. It is exactly as advertised; for irrational reasons I thought it would be larger. It's nicely executed, durable and keeps the coffee warm for 20 -30 minutes and is very easy to clean.

1.0 out of 5 stars handle detached from mug
Bought two of these in March 2008. They were used once a day and washed by hand. After just four months the handle of one mug detached from the body - they are just glued on. I was willing to pay a premium price for these mugs since my plan was for them to last many years.

And the mug gets warm, not hot to the touch. So, I tried a casual experiment. I filled the WMF Kult stainless mug, a Styrofoam cup and a standard ceramic coffee mug with water at 184ºF. All three were within an eight of an inch of the same diameter at the top. After 10 minutes the temperatures were 160ºF for the WMF Kult mug, 146ºF for the Styrofoam, and 139ºF for the ceramic. After 20 minutes 144ºF for WMF Kult, 130ºF for Styrofoam and 125ºF for ceramic. The 15ºF to 20ºF difference may not seem like much, but for me it means the WMF Kult cup provides tolerable coffee for an extra ten to 15 minutes. So there is some genuine insulation value.

I would have given it five stars at say $20, but at $25 it's a little on the pricey side.

5.0 out of 5 stars my favorite mug, October 16, 2005

I just bought my second of these WMF mugs from Amazon.com - it is my absolute favorite mug for the following reasons:
1. It DOES keep drinks hot or cold much better than a standard non-insulating mug over the 20 minutes or so that I usually take to finish my drink.
2. It does not have any condensation effect with a cold drink which anyone who lives in a hot and humid climate can tell you is a real pain - with a normal glass or mug, you get an annoying pool of water at the base of the mug - not good on a wooden table! Not so with this which shows to me that the insulating does work effectively.
3. It is an extremely well made product and looks very stylish! Last week I noticed its use by Tchéky Karyo in the Jet Li film "Kiss of the Dragon".
4. It has a perfect sized handle and a super smooth lip that make it a pleasure to hold and drink from.

In my opinion this was never designed to to be a thermos mug (hence my disagreement with the last reviewer). If you are looking for a thermos mug with a lid, I recommend the "Nissan 15.9 Ounce Travel Mug" - I also have 2 of those and they are also great (but not as nice to drink from). The Nissan will keep your drinks hot or cold for more like an hour so in that respect it has its own niche.

One final thought: the lack of lid on this mug means that its insulating effect probably works better for cold drinks than hot drinks (due to the principal of hot air rising).

In summary this is great as a super stylish insulating mug - probably the best you will find - just don't expect a thermos! Yes it is quite expensive but in my opinion is well worth it as you are paying for quality. Happy drinking!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best I could find to meet strict criteria., March 18, 2008

I wanted a mug that: (1) was insulated, (2) held at least 12 oz., and (3) fit in a Tassimo coffee machine. This met all of the criteria, although there's not any extra room for creamer after the machine makes a 12 oz. cup. Yes, it's expensive for what you get. But it's very stylish and beautifully made. And, considering I could give up the next $10 I will frivolously spend, I'm not going to complain. I will take the other reviewer's test results as evidence of its insulating qualities. But, frankly, if they didn't add some polypropylene between the inner & outer walls, its performance vs. a ceramic mug would be laughable. If you read the reviews and make an informed decision to buy this, you will not be disappointed.

Amendment: After living with this mug for awhile I am reducing my rating to 4 stars. I thought that it's insulating qualities were somewhat suspect and, the other reviewer's exhaustive testing notwithstanding, I am of the opinion that, although "insulated", in reality it has no perceived improvement over a ceramic mug. If it had a lid, it would be better. As it is, if you want your hot liquids to stay that way, this is not the product for you. If you like your coffee hot, be prepared to drink fast.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps it warm, May 7, 2007
This review is from: WMF Kult Stainless Steel Coffee Mug (Kitchen)
I chose this coffee mug for its design. My place has different stainless steel items that provides an style for its environment. This mug matches that style.

The mug design is stylish and kind of ergonomic. However, one important quality I found out only when I used it for the first time, is that the mug has a special thermal attribute that keeps coffee warm for a longer time.

It's not inexpensive, but if you love coffee, it's more than good.

I bought two. One of the mugs the handle just fell off. No way to put it back on, don't know if it was glued or welded. $25 it should last longer

Ordinary looking steel mug. It does not have a lid which defeats the purpose of having doube insulation. I did not find the quality of insulation that great either. Too pricey for the features it offers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hot mug, November 17, 2007

I got this item so my coffee would not cool down so fast. It works okay for about 1/2 hour but zapping in microwave would be faster but microwave arcs on metal. I enjoy the size and comfort.

2.0 out of 5 stars Handle detached from mug after 2 1/2 years, June 27, 2010

This review is from: WMF Kult Stainless Steel Coffee Mug (Kitchen)
I loved this cup, used it at work for over two years. I always washed it by hand. Its never been in a dishwasher. Yesterday, as I was cleaning it, the handle broke away from the body! From the picture, and from use, you would have thought it was welded, but it was either glued, or welded poorly.

I will try to get replacement under warranty. If not, I would not buy it again.
