5.0 out of 5 stars Shaken, not stirred
To make a properly chilled Martini you need a shaker and a strainer. This brushed steel shaker has both. And less expensive shakers often have ill-fitting lids that won't come off at the most embarrassing moment (think of it, you are dressed in your suavest tuxedo, and are making a chilled martini for your lady in your penthouse apartment and boff! Stainless steel! It should be good not to rust. However this one did. When 'brushed' thin plate low grade stainless is used it will always rust.

This shaker had the potential to be great, then they used the cheaper metal and in three days it was showing rust at the screen area. Save your money on this one and demand higher quality products from WMF. This...

5.0 out of 5 stars Shaken, not stirred, February 22, 2001

To make a properly chilled Martini you need a shaker and a strainer. This brushed steel shaker has both. And less expensive shakers often have ill-fitting lids that won't come off at the most embarrassing moment (think of it, you are dressed in your suavest tuxedo, and are making a chilled martini for your lady in your penthouse apartment and boff! The steel lid sticks on the shaker and the moment is lost!)

This shaker is made by WMF, a highly regarded manufacturer of stainless steel tableware. It's precision-made and modern as a Lear Jet.

Don't waste your time on cheaper brands. This shaker will stand the test of time. Unlike other reviewers, my shaker is not too tight at all, though I imagine freezing it would make it hard to pull apart. You can't go wrong here. ZH

4.0 out of 5 stars Great shaker with "Super" tight strainer/lid..., June 9, 2003
This review is from: WMF Manhattan Stainless Steel Cocktail Shaker with Built-In Strainer (Kitchen)
I really like this shaker but wow that shaker is really in place! I suppose it's a pretty good thing too because I have used other shakers and while shaking up the mix the top went flying and the icky-sticky stuff took a trip around the room. I use mine mostly for making Margarita's. I love that you can keep it in the freezer after cleaning so that it's nice and frosty when you are ready to use it. But........you better work out those fingers and hands cuz brother that lid is tight! I've found the best way for me to loosen it's grip is to hold with one hand and slightly twist with the other while pushing up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Own my own and always give as a gift, June 6, 2007
This review is from: WMF Manhattan Stainless Steel Cocktail Shaker with Built-In Strainer (Kitchen)
I have owned this shaker for a few years and LOVE IT! I also give it to friends as a housewarming present, so I've spread the word many times over. In fact, people now know that if I'm invited to a housewarming, they're going to get this as a gift.

The design is simple and elegant, just like the cocktails that come out of it. Doesn't show fingerprints or scratches, and I use it frequently (cheers!) so it's not just sitting on a shelf looking good.

As for the comments that it's hard to get the shaker top off, yes and no. As you shake it, it does chill down a lot, and of course the metal tends to contract and tighten. My solution? Twist off the cap, which releases the pressure inside, put the cap back on and give it a quick push! The pressure slightly pops up the shaker lid and people are further impressed with your bartender skills. Lots of oooohs and ahhhhs.

Quality shaker, but fittings are too tight. With slippery hands, you will never get the top off.

I like this a lot. It is very compact and easy to use. I like the built in ice strainer. You just slip off the cap and pour. No hassles of the top jamming and having to beat it open with a knife. You will need a finer strainer if you want to filter out citrus pulp, for example. But for most cocktails you are just straining out the ice. But I like this one for it's convenience.

Nothing says masculine sophistication like striding into a hotel bar and confidently ordering a Manhattan as you ask the leggy blonde at the end of the bar what she's drinking. Nothing except, perhaps, mixing a Manhattan yourself at the wet-bar in your swinging, shag-carpeted bachelor pad as you entertain that very same leggy blonde. Even if you don't have a wet-bar or shag carpeting or care much for leggy blondes, you'll still need a cocktail shaker to make a decent mixed drink.

This particular model is certainly more modern than the ones I'm used to handling. First of all, it's lighter which may be either a good thing or a bad thing. Personally, I perfer a little more heft in a shaker. However, if I were mixing scores of drinks per hour, I think I would appreciate the lighter weight. Second it has a built in strainer which is certainly convenient.

The brushed-steel finish matches nicely with more subdued bar environments (e.g.: wood finshes, earth-tones, etc..); more dramatic environments (e.g.: polished steel, glass, etc...) might call for a shinier finish.

this is the first martini shaker i've ever owned, and it's done great by me. i use it every friday night for cocktail hour with friends, and it's big enough to mix a few drinks at once. the pieces are easy to clean, it's attractive to look at, it doesn't drip (it seals up tight), and the pieces come apart easily. i can guarantee i'll have this for years to come.
