5.0 out of 5 stars Throw Out Your Bamboo Spiders!
I have a great set of bamboo spiders. The problem is, they are not diswasher safe and I'm lazy. I needed a stainless steel upgrade.

3.0 out of 5 stars Commercial/Restaurant Sized
Stainless-Steel Wok Skimmer: 17" This thing is HUGE! It is 17 inches from the hook at the top of the handle to the far edge of the circular wire mesh. But break it down some more - which the listing does not do: That is a 10 inch handle and a 7 inch diameter wire mesh bowl. Do you realize how big your pot has to be to fit this whopper into it? But break it down some more - which the listing does not do: That is a 10 inch handle and a 7 inch diameter wire mesh bowl. Do you realize how big your pot has to be to fit this whopper into it? If that is what you are shopping for, great. If I were making zeppoles at the San Gennaro Feast in Little Italy, this would be perfect for scooping them out of the huge commercial fryer. It is too large and unwieldy for most of my pasta pots and larger than most of the pots that I cook veggies in. Make sure you want a 7 inch diameter bowl before buying this one.

I have a great set of bamboo spiders. The problem is, they are not diswasher safe and I'm lazy. I needed a stainless steel upgrade.

For those who are unfamiliar with spiders, they are used for Asian wok cooking, but have become popular in non-Asian kitchens over the last few years. They allow you fish foods from pots and bowls while draining away the maximum amount of liquid. You'll never deep fry with anything else.

This strainer works well. It has nice weight and balance. I wish there were more sizes to choose from; I'd like a larger and a smaller version. Diswasher safe, so cleaning is a breeze!

How good is this strainer? The best built one I've ever come across and turns out to be a great value. Besides its strength (from its design), it is the easiest strainer I've ever cleaned -- no sharp edges! WMF does amazing things with wire. I wouldn't be surprised if it lasted a lifetime. To this day, Germans pride themselves on being the best craftsmen, engineers, and designers. WMF proves the rule and is dangerously close to becoming one of my favorite utensil manufacturers.

I'm a brand new chef, having recently taken over cooking responsibilities from my wife. I also love new toys so have been purchasing a bunch! This ranks as one of my all-time favorites. It is built like a tank. It is bulletproof. And, it works just like it should! You can't ask for more from a kitchen tool!

It's stainless steel, extremely well made, stands up to an electric wok filled with oil and set to sear, drains well and cleans up easily. I have become a fan of this tool and WMF, the manufacturer. I highly recommend it!

I purchased this item after watching the Food Network and seeing various chefs use a similar item to remove fried foods from hot oil. I chose this one instead of one with a bamboo handle because I feared the bamboo might get contaminated with oil after several uses. I have used it to fry shoestring french fries and fish. It works very well! It makes removing the food very easy. You can pick up larger amount of food (i.e. fries) than you can using tongs. The hot grease drains right out. Excellent product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Happy, October 27, 2011

I got the 13.5 inch. (It's 13.5, not 3.5. (Right now, the choice is between "17" and "3.5" , and it's a confusing error until you figure out what they mean. Well put together. The metal web has small opening, so you can scoop up small items. This size works perfectly in my Presto cooker/frier. Almost no drip from oil being carried by the strainer, which is the vast improvement over other implements. Nice tool. Great for pulling cooked pasta out of the water. The bamboo handle types no doubt work, also, but I like the all metal feature.

Bought this to scoop french fries out of the grease. It could be a little wider (the 13 1/2 inches is the length) but it serves the purpose very well as-is. Gets the small pieces of fries out but lets all the grease flow thru. Well-made of quality material. Not a lot more you can say about a scoop.

I have never bought anything from this company that wasn't high quality. Pots and pans, flatware, fruit bowls, etc. All have retained their high polish with easy maintanence. This line of kitchen utensils is very functional and attractive. I'm slowly buying the whole line.

This is a really sturdy, easy to clean utensil. I enjoy using it for pasta, vegetables etc...
It is all stainless steel, no wood to become bacteria laden.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Skimmer!, April 22, 2010

This review is from: Stainless-Steel Wok Skimmer
Have been searching everywhere for a stainless steel open skimmer rather than the ones with the smaller holes. Most of these either have wood which is prone to absorption...or they are aluminum. This is a well balanced, terrific sized stainless steel skimmer that provides the perfect blend between usability and style. My only wish was they provided a hook for ease of hanging rather than just the loop - a small consideration. Wonderful product that should hold up well, remain easy to clean and get the job done.
