I couldn't find any review for it but bought it anyway due to Amazon's great return policy and we are very happy with our other Silit/WMF kitchenware/tools. This garlic press has a hinged hopper similar to that of Silit, Rosle, and Kuhn Rikon Epicurean Garlic Press. Extremely well built from polished stainless steel, very easy to clean, and looks cool. I bought it to squeeze out garlic and it performs superbly on that.

Those serious about buying quality appliances, will really appreciate this crusher. It feels heavy and unbreakable in your hand. The internals fold out when crusher is opened so that it is easy to clean. It seems as though you can exert a staggering amount of force due to geometry of the hinges: note that this is not a "simple" crusher, but has an internal action to gain leverage.

This press is great and worth the price. Solidly made, easy to clean, and really pushes the garlic through. Recommended.

I have been through a lot of garlic presses in the last few years. The have all failed for one reason or another. This one is different:
1. it is the industrial-strength version of a garlic press. I could probably drive a car over it without much damage.
2. it provides a fine mince on the garlic with almost no effort or peeling
3. not much of the clove is wasted in the hopper

My only drawback is that you can't just rinse it clean, garlic pieces will get lodged in the holes and there isn't a silicone or metal mold to help release the stuck bits. A toothpick can easily remove them, but it would be nice to have a mold of some kind that could pop out the garlic pieces. Unpeeled garlic is actually easier to clean out of the press because it will pull with it many of the lodged pieces from the hopper.

I have not tried the epicurean, but have owned several other garlic presses (which either broke or never worked well) and decided to treat myself to a better quality one this time around. I'm very happy with my choice, have used it for over a month now and no complaints:

-can press 2 small or one large clove at a time
-no, they do not have to be peeled
-my hands are on the small side, but no trouble using this one.
-easy to clean
-gets pretty much all the juice and pulp out
-quality of workmanship seems very high, would be surprised indeed if this didn't last a good long while.

I have never owned another garlic press before this one so I don't have anything to really compare this to. That being said this does do a good job of pressing garlic. I have not encountered any problems with it when using it. It isn't too difficult to clean, though you will need to do more than just rinse it off. And it also seems sturdy and well made. I did have one issue with it though (hence the 4 star rating). It has metal protrusions on both sides so it will lock into place both when it is completely closed and when it is wide open. The metal is kind of soft though and I noticed that tiny metal filaments were coming off after I opened and closed it a few times. Once I saw that I opened and closed it several dozen times until I didn't see anymore metal filaments coming off (this also caused it to not lock in to place anymore either) and washed it. I haven't seen anymore metal filaments come off since.

I got the garlic press just the other day and have had a chance to use them a few times. Very well made and very easy to clean. I am not one to put in garlic without taking the skin off, so I cannot comment on that part of this press. One thing I did do just out of curiosity was to put in some chunks of Ginger root just to see what would happen. With respect to the ginger, this press acts just like a juicer. It will squeeze out all of the juice and give you just a little bit of pulp leaving the stringy part of the ginger in the press. I think I will keep using this with the ginger along with the garlic.

I was using a garlic press from the grocery store-one of those ones that cost a few bucks, and they last a year or two and break. I got tired of buying new ones, and sprung for this one-seemingly a well made press that would last a while. Nope. 2 months after I received it, the welds holding it together have broken. Pretty well useless at this point. I tried to contact the seller about the problem, and a month later have had no response. I don't know if there is a worthwhile 'high end' garlic press out there-I'd love to find one. But for the fifty bucks for this one, I bet it cost about two dollars a clove to press garlic.

OMG! I love this garlic press. It is by far the best garlic press I've owned, except for one fatal flaw. The bottom handle is round, which is good. The top lever is a hollowed out c-curve with edges. When I pressed the garlic, on my very first use, I got my finger pinched between the two handles. The sharp edge of the top handle left a nasty mark on my finger. It hurt like hell. This product is perfect in every way, except for the handles, which is its achilles heel. Make the top handle round and blunted like the bottom and this would be a non-issue. I am impressed but frustrated.

After trying one of those attractive chrome plated garlic press/slicer press' I was very disappointed, but this press did the job that a top of the line press would be expected to do. I had never pressed garlic skin on before and was pleasantly surprised how well this press extracted the garlic through the holes instead of pushing out the sides and allowed me to remove most of the residue just by pulling out the left over skin. Heavy duty, ergonomic, easy to clean. Oh did I say solid and great looking. Well worth it for it's functionality and great finish.
