Facts: The diameter of the aerating tube inserting a decanter is about 18mm or 3/4 inches. The diameter of the top funnel is 90mm or 3.5 inches. This won't insert to a neck of regular wine bottle -- you need a decanter. The straining mesh is just sitting inside the funnel and is removable. The two pieces making this product are easy to hand wash.
This product does aeration and filtration at the same time. Aeration is often used with young to medium aged red wine to smooth out the tannic flavor and possibly improve the integrity of the wine. Filtration is often used to remove solid material (twig, etc) often contained in bottles from more serious price range, and sediment formed from well aged wines. Some reds might even benefit from double decanting with aeration at each decanting. With this funnel, it is very easy and clean to do. White wines very rarely benefit from these steps, but this funnel at least looks great especially with a nice decanter.
This funnel can also be useful with other purposes, like removing spice and other solid material from drinks, sauces and broths.

This is the solution. Since I am not very responsible about turning the bottles in my wine collection, there is often some sediment with which to deal. I don't really want to serve my guests "chewy" wine, and this funnel/strainer solves that problem with great style. You'll love how it pours down the side of the decanter. The strainer and funnel are two separate pieces, making cleaning up a snap.

Up until now, I thought this type of thing was for the wine snobs, of which I am not. Even for those cheap $7 bottles of wine, this really does make a big difference in the taste of the wine. I highly recommend it.

My friends are wowed whenever I break this bad boy out. It does a super job filtering and works well as a funnel, but the four way aeration is the highlight of the show. It is also easy to clean and looks great. If you want a funnel, I can't imagine a better option.

A few months ago, my friends and I were up in Napa doing what we enjoy most... drinking wine! One of our stops was Francsican on HWY 29 and tried a bunch of their wines. WE make wine and were chatting with some of the folks there and they pulled out their '05 Magnificat which they said was alittle tight but really opened up if you decanted it and used this 4-way funnel.

He made a statement that it really added a year to the wie when decanting and using this funnel. All of my friends and I all looked at each other like it was this HUGE epiphany. Some of our 2004 vintages for some reason were coming to life late in the bottle and so we tried this funnel. We are so sold! WE use it for our wine and every bottle of red. Its amazing how aerated the wine gets and all the flavors just pop!

I was really impressed with the quality and design of this item. Beautifully polished metal with no noticeable flaws anywhere. As with any polished stainless steel you'll want to limit the amount of time it is in contact with any acidic liquid. Give it a quick rinse and hand dry it immediately.

The wine flowed gently and evenly from all eight holes allowing it to smoothly cascade along the sides of my decanter. This will definitely captivate your audience. The strainer fit snuggly within the funnel and will serve its purpose for pieces of cork or sediment particles in aged or homemade wine. A removable strainer is a great feature.

I paired the funnel with the Bormioli Rocco Loto Wine Decanter and they work perfectly together. As others have mentioned, the funnel tip is too wide to fit into a standard wine bottle. If you wish to transfer the wine back into a wine bottle any inexpensive funnel with a narrower tip will do. Had this Vino funnel been designed with a narrower tip it would have taken longer to aerate an entire bottle and would increase the risk of overflowing the funnel cup. I was able to aerate a 750 ml bottle in a matter of seconds.

We are so amazed how much better wine tastes--any kind of wine--after using this filter. We tested it out pouring a nice bottle in a glass and the rest through the filter in to the $40 decanter someone recommended. Not only did the wine taste better immediately. The decanted wine was better all night than the liquid that went straight into the glass. Works on cheap wine, too. And it makes a nice show when pouring. Enjoy.

I don't really have any other insight to this funnel than has been said already...but my Italian Grandfather used something like this over 100 years ago for his home made red wine and I have followed in his footsteps. I remember him pouring wine out of a huge barrel through a spicket and putting it in a hand made glass decanter through a similar funnel. I didn't realize until much later in my life what he was doing...it aerated the wine, trapped some sediment, and got it ready to breathe in the decanter, right before dinner...like I now do with EVERY bottle of red wine I drink. You won't believe the difference in the taste of the wine. Incredibly simple and effective. Great investment if you drink even a few bottles of wine once in a while....but remember, you have to purchase a nice inexpensive glass decanter too!
