After reading the other scathing reviews, I'm at least grateful that our unit had the decency to fail within the warranty period! We took it back to Best Buy and it was repaired (I hope), but we're not pressing our luck and are going to try to sell it.

Really, one week short of the one year warranty ending, it made a loud "popping" noise and then filled the house with smoke...pretty scarey. We were surprised, as Whirlpool has always had a good reputation, but then don't get me started on our Whirlpool refrigerator(!!!)

WHY can't appliances at least last until their color goes outta fashion? I mean, you still see avocado green appliances, going strong. Hmmm...maybe that was a magic paint color, & should be researched...

This is the worst piece of crap I've ever used. This microwave was installed in a house we purchased brand new in spring 2010. It never seemed to heat very effectively, but we lived with it. In September 2010, it started heating sporadically...one time it would work, the next time it wouldn't heat. We called a local repair company, whose technician wasn't sure exactly what was wrong. He found a loose wire behind the control panel, and tightened it. For the next couple months it continued to work off & on. In November, the same repair company took it to their shop, where they replaced the magnetron. When they returned it, it worked, but still seemed to heat very inefficiently. Now, 2 weeks after the warranty ran out, it is not working again. It literally worked one day, and not the next. And now it will not heat AT ALL. We have called Whirlpool, and they keep telling us that there is nothing they can do because it is out of warranty. Even after explaining that this has been an ongoing problem that has been repaired twice already, they are unwilling to do anything. We are very disappointed that Whirlpool will not stand behind their product. We've also noticed that this model is no longer showing up on the Whirlpool website...I wonder why! Do Not Buy This Microwave!!

Worked for 7 months then would not heat. After 11 service calls and lots of parts and 2 different service companies over a 5 month period Whirlpool finally agreed to replace it with the new model.

1 year and 1 month after purchasing this product, the unit runs but will not heat anything. It is 1 month out of warranty, and customer service at Whirlpool says there is nothing they can do. Buyer beware.

Do not buy this microwave. I have never seen a microwave that would not heat food, until this one. This pretty little machine was installed into our new house before we bought it, it worked for about 18 months (based on the other reviews, perhaps I should be grateful it lasted that long?) and then stopped working. The tech service people indicated they are not aware of frequent problems with this model...perhaps they should check the Amazon review. Do not buy this...in fact, I'm not buying anything else from this company.

Our Whirlpool Microwave is now 14 months old, 2 months out of warranty, and it's making a loud popping sound.
From everything I've read, and repairmen I've talked to, this means the magnetron is going out. I called Whirlpool, asking for some help, not asking for anything free, just for some kind of help as it is just out of warranty. The gal on the phone left me 3 times to try and do something for me, each time to return saying there was nothing they would do. Really? 14 months old and its total junk??? Let this be a lesson to everyone... not that you need to buy the extended warranty, but that Whirlpool makes crap. Look on the internet; this happens a lot to this model... absolute junk!
