These hand forks are my favorite garden tools. I was hesitant to order when I saw that the handles are plastic (yuck), but it's not flimsy, junky plastic - they are very sturdy tools that have survived a lot of abuse in my garden. I use them in place of a trowel to plant small plants - they're great for breaking up clay soil. I also use two of them to split small perennials using the same back-to-back method you use with bigger garden forks for big perennials. I *love* these forks and give them as gifts to all of my gardening friends.
