This is a swivel base and riser for TVs, where the user either needs a storage space for a VCR, Blue-Ray player, or a center channel speaker, or more height is needed for a large screen TV, or some combination of the above. It comes is black or wood color so one can match the swivel base to the color of their existing decor.

Yes, it comes unassembled, but almost all entertainment centers do these days, unless you buy one for a small fortune in a furniture gallery store. All the necessary hardware is included, and its quality is pretty good. Assembly takes about 5 minutes. The swivel base is attached to the two sides using three, 2-inch coated deck screws. The top part is attached to the sides using screw posts and camlocks, and care must be taken when screwing the posts into the top because they are self-tapping, and if you start them at an angle, you might split the wood. The wood is hardwood, but it didn't seem to be as hard as Oak. Once assembled, the unit is very sturdy, and I had no qualms whatsoever about putting a brand new Sony Bravia 46-inch LCD TV on it. My biggest concern was that my Yamaha NS-AP6500C center channel speaker, whose advertised height is 4-7/8", would fit in the storage space. It does fit, but theoretically, a decent DIY carpenter could place some small strips of wood as shims between the bottom and the sides to gain a little more clearance (maybe 1/8") However, I didn't need to do that.

The unit also comes with four, clear, stick-on feet, presumably for those who want to remove the swivel part and use the product as a fixed base. I almost did that, because once a TV is placed on it, the swivel's friction is so low that the tiny forces exerted by cables can make it rotate whether you want it to or not. To prevent that, I slid four, 1/4" high black rubber feet under the corners. The advantage to this is that I can swivel the TV if I want to by slipping the feet out, but once I put them back in place, there's no movement.

Overall, this is a good product. It's not furniture store grade, but it works for a clubroom or TV room, and it does exactly what the manufacturer claims.

Once I got this put together it was fine. But I was not expecting it to need to be assembled and was not happy about having to spend the time to do it. Be forwarned!!

Also, although this size was fine I also bought the next size up for a larger TV and the unit could not handle the weight. Those of us that still have our picture tube TV's know how heavy they are. We have an older 24" Sony Trinitron (which still works like a champ)- but this unit cannot support it. The metal undeath that allows it to swivel simply cannot hold the weight.

Not a piece of furniture art, but substantial and a good base for a large flat screen TV. There is enough room under the base to park a receiver or some accessories, its ballbearing place swivels easily even under a heavy load. It went together easily when initially assembled.

Very good product. Just what I was looking for to put my new flat screen 32" tv on top of. Cable box (DVR) fit perfectly inside the shelf.
The wood finish is very nice. Needed some power tools to screw in the screws. Too hard to do by hand.
