5.0 out of 5 stars A Dog Named Word
Every person of every age should read this book. Florence Petheram tells the story of a seemingly doomed dog named Word, and happily for us all, this story has a happy ending. Florence should be sharpening her pencil to sign the movie rights for this inspirational story of a dog whose journey to happiness will touch the lives of us all.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book for children.
This book is good for children. (I thought it was for adults... I didn't pay enough attention to the description of it... Anyway, children will be pleased to read it and learn about the kindness of animals in general.)

4.0 out of 5 stars WORD, April 20, 2008
This review is from: WORD: A Real Dog Locked in a Shelter Cage for Eight Years Until... (Paperback)
Nice basic read (good for kids to read to become familiar with the animal misuse happening in the world). Hopefully will inspire more kids to take up action against the wrongs committed against animals. A good read to help a good cause.

This is well written, but such a sad story; I cried throughout the book. Tears of sadness changed to tears of joy by the end. Excellent book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Word: A Real Dog Locked in a Shelter Cage for Eight Years Until, August 25, 2008

This is a wonderful story of unconditional love on the part of humans and animals. I volunteer for a no-kill shelter and am there as much as possible to receive the greatest gift; an animal's love. I also work at a YWCA and will read the story to the children in our transitional housing program this weekend because it tells the story of no matter what the adversity, there is always happiness just around the corner or sometimes with just a little effort the worst of situations can be tolerated until it's made right again. I recommend it to families and anyone who loves dogs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Word: A Real Dog Locked in A Shelter, September 16, 2008
This review is from: WORD: A Real Dog Locked in a Shelter Cage for Eight Years Until... (Paperback)
This is an awesome book. I read in one afternoon.
It is sad but has a wonderful ending.
This goes to show how accidents happen to our animals when there are no witnesses to the truth. The judicial system robbed this dog of many years by having to be caged while they "processed".
God Bless all of those who haved loved and cared for Word.

5.0 out of 5 stars Word is no longer with us..., April 8, 2010
This review is from: WORD: A Real Dog Locked in a Shelter Cage for Eight Years Until... (Paperback)
This book brings back sad and happy memories. An Animal Rights attorney, a good friend of mine, Mitzi Leibst, now deceased, worked very hard for that little dog. We even had several protests in front of the Seattle Animal Shelter, asking for his freedom. I should add that he was always well treated while at that shelter but it was still a cage.
The happy ending is when Mr. Word was finally released to Pigs Peace Sanctuary which he enjoyed so much for the rest of his life.
I am so glad that Word was immortalised in this wonderful book. Mitzi and Word are now playing together on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge!

Imagine being locked in a cage for eight years, no reprieve. This cage was all the space you had. Your crime? Being a dog. The choice locked in a cage for the rest of your life or being killed. Excellent book, only problem, lack of depth and detail. Otherwise, It grabs you to find out what happens to Word.

This is a great book for children under 12. It is sweetly written. It keeps them in a little suspense and has a happy ending.
