Far too little has been written about the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps during WWII, and even less from a first-hand account. I anticipated receiving this book eagerly, and was sadly disappointed by what it contained. The majority of the author's military service was post World War II, even though the title implies it was during. The author even states herself that her memories have faded, and that she did "nothing exciting" during the war. While even the most routine of medical duties was part of the greater whole that helped the U.S. to win World War II, the author clearly believes she has nothing much to offer, and reluctantly has written this book to satisfy friends and relatives. Other similar books have compensated for the lack of service-related activities, by adding colorful personal accounts. The author, for whatever reason, fails to do so in this book. Even the stories she finds as humorous fall short of connecting with the reader. I believe the author was in dire need of a "ghost writer", or at the very least, a good editor to help inspire her words and memories, which I've no doubt a woman during that time period holds. Perhaps a re-write or updated future edition of the book?? I'd love to hear more, but not more of the same. Worth reading, though, even if to document history, as a first-hand account.
