4.0 out of 5 stars Official Lineup for the Best of SmackDown Set, June 18, 2009
This review is from: WWE: The Best of Smackdown - 10th Anniversary 1999-2009 (DVD)
This is the official lineup from Silvervision.com. From the info listed below it looks to be set up similar to the Best of Raw set from a few years ago but as a countdown of moments and matches rather than a timeline. Hopefully the matches listed will be the entire match rather than just highlights.

For ten years, SmackDown has provided the most unpredictable moments and matches on network television. The Best of SmackDown 1999 - 2009 counts down the 100 greatest moments in the show's history.

4.0 out of 5 stars I've actually watched it..., September 15, 2009
This review is from: WWE: The Best of Smackdown - 10th Anniversary 1999-2009 (DVD)
OK, so I just picked up and finished watching the Best of Smackdown 10th Anniversary DVD, and unfortunately, my biggest
fear regarding this set is true... most of the matches are just highlights. I bought this set really looking forward to seeing the
Iron Man match between Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar, but it's just a highlight package. So, before I get to my review, here's
a list of the actual complete matches you'll get on this 3-disc DVD set:

1. Randy Orton vs. The Undertaker - 9/16/2005
2. Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio (steel cage match) - 9/09/2005
3. Chyna vs. Chris Jericho (IC Title match) - 12/30/1999
4. Carlito vs. John Cena (US Title match & Carlito's debut) - 10/07/2004
5. Tazz vs. Triple H (non-title WWE Champion vs. ECW Champion) - 4/20/2000
6. Chris Jericho vs. Hulk Hogan (WWE Undisputed Championship match) - 5/02/2002
7. Jeff Hardy, Batista, Rey Mysterio & Finlay vs. MVP, JBL, Kane & Brian Kendrick (six-man tag) - 10/03/2008
8. Randy Orton vs. Hardcore Holly (Randy Orton's debut) - 4/25/2002
9. The Rock vs. The Dudley Boyz (Handicap Tables match) - 3/09/2000
10. Rey Mysterio vs. Matt Hardy (Cruiserweight Championship match) - 6/05/2003
11. RVD vs. Steve Austin (non-title match) - 9/06/2001
12. Team Angle vs. Eddie Guerrero & Tajiri (WWE Tag Title match) - 5/29/2003
13. JBL vs. Eddie Guerrero (WWE Title match inside a steel cage) - 7/15/2004
14. Kurt Angle vs. The Undertaker (WWE Undisputed Championship match) - 7/07/2002
15. Rock 'n Sock Connection vs. the New Age Outlaws (World Tag Team Championship match) - 10/14/1999
16. John Cena vs. Kurt Angle (Cena's debut) - 6/27/2002
17. Stephanie McMahon & Zack Gowan vs. Big Show (Handicap match) - 7/03/2003
18. Edge & Hulk Hogan vs. Billy & Chuck (World Tag Title Championship match) - 7/04/2002
19. Triple H vs. Jeff Hardy (IC Title match) - 4/12/2001
20. Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero (No DQ match) - 9/26/2002
21. The Rock vs. Triple H w/Shawn Michaels as special guest ref (WWE Title match) - 8/26/1999

That's it, all the other matches are shown in highlight packages. So with that said, here's my review...

The 10th Anniversary set of Smackdown is similar to the way the WWE: The Best of RAW 15th Anniversary
was presented, with one exception. The packaging is the same the only thing that's different is that the show is presented
in a 100 greatest moments countdown. Which is fine, but the countdown is really off balance, in my opinion. For example, the
Eddie Guerrero Tribute show is number 46 on the list. Really? That would've been in my top five. I mean, they put Mick Foley
as Smackdown Commissioner ahead of the Eddie Tribute show. That blows my mind considering how important Eddie Guerrero
was to building the Smackdown brand. So, the countdown itself should be taken with a grain of salt. Their top choice is obvious, it's
the 9/11 tribute show that aired on Sept. 13th 2001. WWE was the first entertainment or sports entity to hold a public event since the
devastating attacks, something I don't think they received enough credit for doing. I really would've loved to see them include
this complete episode on a 4th bonus disc, it was that memorable of a show and the highlight package they show in the countdown
doesn't do it justice.
The countdown is hosted by Michael Cole & Matt Stryker and the countdown is dominated by highlights & angles, not actual matches.
At first I was bummed by all the highlights, but by disc two, I was loving it. When you watch this set, you realize how many great
moments there have actually been on Smackdown, and I've forgotten about a lot of these. So it's great to see them all again.
As is usual with all WWE DVDs now, Chris Benoit is not here, however you do see him briefly during the ring entrances of the TLC III
video package, but not during the actual match highlights (that complete match can be seen here: WWE - The Ladder Match).
It's sad because Benoit was such a huge part of Smackdown, but I understand why they don't show him anymore.
I was just as surprised by what they included as what they omitted. For example, the really put over Mr. Kennedy, who is rumored to be on his
way to TNA. They also put over and mentioned Kurt Angle quite a bit. You can tell WWE still holds a grudge against Brock Lesnar because they
grit their teeth and only mention him when they must, which is a shame because Brock was a huge part of Smackdown's success.
The timing of this release is also both good & bad because there's a lot of Jeff Hardy on this release (he's also featured on the cover) and
you gotta believe if Jeff Hardy's recent arrest had happened a few months earlier that he wouldn't be anywhere to be found
on this release. And since WWE just cancelled their planned solo Jeff Hardy DVD, this may be the last we see of Jeff Hardy on WWE DVDs for
quite some time, maybe the last time if he's found guilty, so enjoy him here while you can!

Overall, I was pleased with the set. It's hard to argue with the complete matches they included. The set is worth picking up just to see
all of the Undisputed WWE Title matches making their DVD debut here! Also, the no DQ match between Edge and Eddie Guerrero is a classic!
I removed a star for the highlights only versions of other matches I was really hoping to see (the Iron Man Match & the Supermarket Brawl
between Austin & Booker T, just for example). But fortunately, there's enough highlights and full length matches to satisfy any Smackdown
or wrestling fan, especially if you only started watching within the last couple of years and are curious about the early days of Smackdown.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Decade Of Smackin' Your TV, September 27, 2009
By
D.P. (California) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)
This review is from: WWE: The Best of Smackdown - 10th Anniversary 1999-2009 (DVD)
Eventhough Monday Night RAW has been the show that defined sports entertainment over the past 15 years now...SmackDown has earned it's own reputation in that respect for over the past decade as well from it's start on Thursday's to it's current position on Friday's. The DVD is hosted by longtime SmackDown announcer Michael Cole along with Matt Striker. This DVD is setup to count the top 100 moments of SmackDown however with the exception of the Billy & Chuck wedding & the matches, all the moments are strickly highlights. Some moments are actual recaps while others were just a highlights of moments with something in common (like "The Rock Says..." is a combination of his various promos). Most of the moments come with commentary from various WWE personalities such as Matt Hardy, John Cena, Santino Marella, William Regal, Todd Grisham, Michael Hayes, Matt Striker, Big Show, Mark Henry, C.M. Punk, Jerry Lawler, Candice Michelle, The Miz, Tommy Dreamer, Ron Simmons, Jesse/Slam Master J, Rey Mysterio, "Brooklyn Brawler" Steve Lombardi, The Brian Kendrick, Lillian Garcia, The Bella Twins, Kofi Kingston, Christian, and members of the McMahon family.

You already have a list of what moments to expect on this DVD so I won't repeat but here are the matches on this set:

Undertaker vs. Randy Orton - Just like their previous two PPV encounters (WrestleMania 21 & SummerSlam '05), this was a good contest between both men with Taker working on Orton's previously injured arm while Orton & his dad, "Cowboy" Bob Orton, used one of Taker's infamous mind games against him.
(Sept. '05)

Steel Cage Match: Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero - This was the final match in their feud that was the highlight of SmackDown throughout 2005 where Eddie became obsessed with beating Rey Mysterio...and also developing his best "heel" character in his career. While this was not as good as their earlier WCW classics or even some of their earlier matches but it was far from bad with Eddie giving one of the most aggressive frog splashes I've seen from him.
(Sept. '05)
[Also Available On "Viva La Raza: The Legacy Of Eddie Guerrero"]

ECW Champion Tazz vs. WWE Champion Triple H - Long before ECW became the third brand of WWE, those who know their ECW history or watched "Rise & Fall Of ECW" know the story behind Tazz being the ECW Champion on this night so this was a rare interpromotional World Champion vs. World Champion match taking place here in ECW's hometown of Philly. We all know that Tazz's WWE career didn't go as well as expected but this was one of his rare best in-ring performances here as he went head & head and held his own against the WWE Champion Triple H. With a cameo from another ECW original, this was a nice match for what it is.
(Apr. '00)

No Disqualification Match: WWE Champion Hulk Hogan vs. Chris Jericho - In a recent interview, Hogan praised the ability of Chris Jericho that he saw in WWE to the point where he said he wanted to work with Jericho & have him lead the matches...and this match is a great example of why he said that. This was during the "Hulk STILL Rules" comeback era of '02 for Hogan and with Jericho put on one of the best matches during Hogan's return as Jericho did more than just be Hogan's "spotmonkey" but actually pulled out a good performance from Hogan while also setting up the storylines heading into the next PPV
(May '02)

Batista, Rey Mysterio, Finlay, Jeff Hardy vs. M.V.P., J.B.L., Kane, The Brian Kendrick - This match was significant due to it marked the debut of SmackDown on it's current station of MyNetworkTV. This was one of those 8 man tags that was fun to watch with everyone getting their moment at one point or another & you may even get a chuckle out of Hornswoggle taunting The Brian Kendrick at one point.
(Oct. '08)

WWE Crusierweight Champion Matt Hardy vs. Rey Mysterio - I was at this match live & I can tell you that this was one of the best crusierweight matches in the history of WWE. This is the only time I can remember the Crusierweight Title main eventing SmackDown & with the fued having so much buildup as it had. Hardy showcased why he was so underrated at the time while Mysterio wouldn't give up with his bad leg.
(June '03)
[Also Available On "Rey Mysterio: Biggest Little Man"]

Rob Van Dam vs. Steve Austin - This was during the time where the WWE revolved around the WWE vs. WCW/ECW Alliance "Invasion" angle but this was one of those times where members of the same team would face each other as the Alliance leader in Stone Cold went against the most popular member of the Alliance (and even more popular than some of the faces in the WWE) in Rob Van Dam. Austin was intense from start to finish & had this match as a brawl in & out the ring while RVD was able to hold his own & even hit the Van Daminator at one point.
(Sept. '01)

WWE Tag Team Champions Eddie Guerrero & Tajiri vs. Team Angle - For those who don't know or remember, Team Angle is the team who would later start calling themselves "The World's Greatest Tag Team" in Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Hass...and they had one of the best tag team feuds in modern day WWE history with the Los Guerreros team of Eddie & Chavo (to the point where 3 different matches are on various DVD sets). However, this was during the period where Chavo was injured & Eddie chose Tajiri as his replacement partner to go on & win the Tag Team Titles in a Ladder Match at Judgment Day (look for that match when you got the time). This was an outstanding match here as Hass & Benjamin showed why they were such great in-ring technicans by picking & working over a bodypart such as Tajiri's leg while Eddie was just classic Eddie in both entertainment & inring performance while Tajiri held his own & had his japanese style mix well with the others.
(May '03)

Steel Cage Match: WWE Champion J.B.L. vs. Eddie Guerrero - This was Eddie's rematch against J.B.L. after losing the belt at the Great American Bash. This match heavily surpassed the Bash match & was their second best match to date with the highlight being Guerrero's flog splash off the top of the cage.
(July '04)
[Also Available On "Viva La Raza: The Legacy Of Eddie Guerrero"]

WWE Undisputed Champion Undertaker vs. Kurt Angle - These two have had a series of "lost classics" such as their matches at No Way Out '06, SmackDown two weeks later, or another SmackDown match in Sept. '03 (on Taker's 3 disc set). However, this was more of a teaser to help setup the triple threat from Vengeance with The Rock later in the month but it was still a quality match for what it was with a very unique ending where you saw Undertaker do something that we never saw him do before...or after this match.
(July '02)

WWE Tag Team Champions New Age Outlaws vs. Rock & Sock Connection - What can I say about these two teams that hasn't been said before in that this was two of the most entertaining teams WWE had in a match that was typical of all teams involved at the time with it being non-stop action with a good mix of brawling & wrestling (Rock & Billy Gunn) along with keeping the crowd entertained (Mankind & Road Dogg) with the backstory here being this match was suppost to be the last time the Rock & Sock Connection teamed up together.
(Oct. '99)

World Tag Team Champions Billy & Chuck vs. Hulk Hogan & Edge - The big story here was Edge winning the tag team titles with his childhood hero Hulk Hogan. Edge & Hogan were just clicking this match with Billy & Chuck in what was a great match for SmackDown TV.
(July '02)
[Also Available On "Hulk Hogan: The Ultimate Anthology" & "Edge: Decade Of Decadance"]

WWE Intercontinental Champion Triple H vs. Jeff Hardy - The match went non-stop as Hardy was just using his quick "daredevil" offense in the opening minutes while Triple H was real intense throughout the match as well with the suprize being that Jeff Hardy winning the Intercontinental Title.
(Apr. '01)
[Also Available On "WWF Action", "Matt & Jeff Hardy: Twist Of Fate", "History Of The Intercontinental Championship"]

No Disqualification Match: Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero - I saw their match at SummerSlam & Unforgiven (LIVE) and this was the best out of their series. This was the type of DQ match where the weapons, like the ladder, were used to make the normal wrestling moves more impactful. Awesome match to the point where the crowd gave Eddie, the heel, a standing ovation afterwards.
(Sept. '02)
[Also Available On "Viva La Raza: The Legacy Of Eddie Guerrero"]

WWE Champion Triple H vs. The Rock - This was the main event on the first "regular" episode of SmackDown with the twist of Commissioner Shawn Michaels as the special guest referee. This was exactly what you would expect from a HHH/Rock match in that they put on a solid encounter (like they usually do) with Shane McMahon & Chyna getting involved at times before you saw an ending that you didn't expect at that time and really set the stage for what WWE wanted to do in making SmackDown a show where you had to tune in & see what happens.
(Aug. '99)

Other matches include Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho vs. Chyna, The Rock vs. Dudley Boyz in a Tables Match, Zack Gowen & Stephanie McMahon vs. Big Show in a No Holds Barred Handicap Match, and the impressive WWE debuts of Carlito (vs. U.S. Champion John Cena), Randy Orton (vs. Hardcore Holly), and John Cena (vs. Kurt Angle).

Now it's obvious that some moments will not be included in here for one reason or another (Chris Benoit...but he was shown during the recap of TLC III) & there are some questionable choices for what is/isn't included along with the ranking of each moment (how can Eddie's... Read more ›
