4.0 out of 5 stars A lot of days of reckoning September 2, 2004
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I picked up WWE Day of Reckoning yesterday and played 8 hours straight. Well, one thing I know for sure... I'm not going to touch my Wrestlemania XIX anymore. This new game is going to keep me busy for quite a while. I had the chance to go through a couple matches in Story Mode.

The Story Mode is a huge, huge, huge improvement and I believe it gives Day of Reckoning a very good replay value. Of course you have to use a created wrestler to start out. After and hour and a half of creating my wrestler, I started out my quest to become the most electrifying wrestler the WWE will ever see. You start off in the WWE Developmental territory working house shows and building up your attributes. After being coached by Jonathan Coachman, Paul Heyman takes notice of you and gives you an opportunity to wrestle on Sunday Night Heat. When Vince McMahon takes notice of your in ring skills, he offers you a contract to either Raw or Smackdown!! There will be a different story line and different characters depending on which brand you choose to go with.... and you will join a a choice of factions depending on whether you made your created wrestler a face or a heel. I won't go into anymore detail on how the rest of my story mode goes, but I'm in a reunited faction lead by the UNDERTAKER. Let's just say it's just like watching Raw or Smackdown. There are groups being formed, you're asked to make a betrayal or betrayals are being made on you, you're attacked behind the back in the locker room, etc.... it's crazy. The DoR Story Mode is something wrestling gamers will have to experience.

The gameplay is much better and the animation flows much smoother. I read previews of this game that it was going to be NO MERCY (my favorite wrestling game) on steroids. It's pretty much close to that.

5.0 out of 5 stars WWE Day of Reckoning: The Best WWE Game? August 14, 2004
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Day of Reckoning is World Wrestling Entertainment's latest venture into the GameCube market. With better models, more arenas, and higher match capabilities, Day of Reckoning might just be the best wrestling game on the Nintendo GameCube ever.

In the last game, WrestleMania XIX, many people were complaining about the single-player mode, Revenge. It had nothing to do with wrestling, and people weren't interested in it. Well, say goodbye to Revenge and hello to the new and improved story mode. But, if you're hoping to take Triple H or The Rock into this mode, think again. This mode is being referred to by some as "Jobber Mode," because you can only take THQ jobbers, or your created wrestlers through this mode. You'll start at the very bottom, and work your way to the top, as Vince McMahon eventually gives you a spot on the WWE roster; That is, however, if you're good enough in your matches as a lowly jobber. As a wrestler, you also are on a unique grading system, will eventually give you cash to go purchase things from WWE ShopZone.

In this game, there are a total of 35 normal superstars, and five legends. Copying off of SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain, there are five unlockable legends in the game: Andre The Giant, Greg "The Hammer" Valentine, Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, and amazingly enough, Bret "The Hitman" Hart. The characters for the main roster are listed below

RAW

The Rock, Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Kane, Triple H, Randy Orton, Batista, Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, Edge, Christian, Val Venis, Lance Storm, Garrison Cade, Matt Hardy, Shelton Benjamin, Trish Stratus, Molly, Victoria, Stacy

SMACKDOWN!

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
WWE:Day of Reckoning seems to be a very solid game overall.
I haven't played it yet, though the information provided really makes this game look much better then last years disappointing WrestleMania XIX.
The graphics look outstanding, just check IGN.com to take a peek at them. The wrestlers, the crowds, the entrances, all have been improved enormously.
The new weight-detection will be like No Mercys where it will be much harder, though not impossible, for a player like Eddie Guerrero to body slam someone like The Big Show. Instead of the body slam not happening at all, you would have to mash the A-Button to pull it off.
The new enhanced story mode, The School of Hard Knocks, makes the game worth buying itself. Your character starts off as a nobody, who has to work his way up through minor shows until he reaches the WWE Development league. From there, he works on his stats and Vince McMahon signs him to a contract. Then, you will be on WWE Television shows like Smackdown and Raw, and you will face many different storylines, situations, plots, and backstabbings. Along the way of course, you get to gain Title belts and defend them.

Also, they've added new strategies to the game:
"We've added a lot of new strategy elements to this year's game that are exclusive to GameCube. The first would be the "Momentum Shift." This is basically when you have been beaten to the point of being knocked out or pinned. You will have a small window in which you can execute a shift of momentum against your opponent. When you see the "Danger" icon flash on screen, you must quickly hit your "A" and "B" buttons simultaneously. If you can pull it off, you will steal all of your opponent's momentum and spirit as well as any specials he has acquired.
