Editorial Reviews

WWE goes EXTREME in this high octane pay-per-view event. Each of the matches have special stipulations as WWE Superstars battle for high profile championships and pride. The 2010 edition featured Street Fights, Steel Cage Matches, Strap Matches and more extreme antics. Who knows what lengths the Superstars of Raw and SmackDown will go to top last year's event?

4.0 out of 5 stars Good event, worth the money. May 2, 2011
Given how lackluster Wrestlemania was, Extreme Rules was a fairly good show.

-Last Man Standing Match: CM Punk vs. Randy Orton: These two have had a great rivalry, their match at Wrestlemania was one of the few bright spots of that show. This was a pretty brutal match and the crowd was split in the beginning cheering for both men. Punk brings out a kendo stick, repeatedly hitting Orton with it, even going after his shoulder that has been injured in the past. Punk sets up a chair in the corner but gets swung into it head first. Punk hits a nice high kick but he takes a nasty backdrop onto the barricade, but makes it back up before the 10 count. Orton hits an RKO on the announce table but it doesn't break. Punk counters Ortons punt into a modified GTS on the steel steps, but Orton gets back up. Orton hits a top rope RKO and Punk is down for the count and Orton wins. 9/10.

-Tables Match for the U.S. Title: Kofi Kingston vs. Sheamus (Champion): This is an added match and the crowd seemed dead. There were some nice spots like Kofi jumping onto the ropes to avoid going through a table. Kofi jumps off the top rope slamming Sheamus through a table to become the new U.S. champion. An ok but not great match, especially cause of the dead crowd. 5/10.

-Nice backstage promo by the newly turned heel R-Truth, good idea to do something different with him.

-Country Whipping Match: Jim Ross & Jerry Lawler vs. Michael Cole & Jack Swagger: Cole comes out covered in bubble wrap (you read that right) to absorb the impact of the leather straps used in this match. This is exactly what you'd expect with Lawler and Swagger carrying most of the match though Ross gets in some nice shots on Cole and Swagger.

4.0 out of 5 stars Here's The "Wrestle" That Was Missing From Mania May 6, 2011
It should be noted that the SmackDown broadcast team of Josh Matthews & Booker T did the entire commentary throughout the night with Jerry Lawler joining them in the first match while Michael Cole would join them later in the broadcast.

Last Man Standing Match: Randy Orton vs. C.M. Punk - Before the match got started, the RAW GM banned the New Nexus from ringside. Both men took this brawl to the floor early before kendo sticks were pulled & used by both men. At one point a chair was wedged in one of the corners of the ring to where Orton threw Punk into with so more force that he went through the chair onto the outside while later wearing it as a necktie when Punk threw him headfirst into the ringpost. At times both men were beaten so badly that they barely made it up by the 10 count with moves like the RKO on the announce table (that didn't give), a GTS onto the steel steps, and another RKO from the top rope. This was the third match in their series & just like the others, this didn't disappoint.

Tables Match: United States Champion Sheamus vs. Kofi Kingston - This was a bonus match as Kofi scored a non-title win on RAW earlier in the week only to be attacked by Sheamus on SmackDown causing this match to be made & for those who follow politics, you'll get a chuckle out of Sheamus' interview. They went back & forth as both men attempted to setup tables on the outside to use while also countering each other's attacks but Kofi was the true highlight here as he displayed very athletic ways to avoid hitting the tables various times throughout the match including changing his move attempt in midair when coming off the top rope to the floor. This was a nice match.

Country Whipping Match: Jerry Lawler & Jim Ross vs.
