Editorial Reviews

For years, the Money in the Bank match was a highlight of WrestleMania, with each of the six winners going on to successfully cash in their opportunities and win World Championships. The match has become so popular that WWE created its own WWE pay-per-view event with the Money in the Bank Ladder Matches as it marquee attractions. Thrust into main event status, the Money in the Bank matches stayed spectacular and continued to lead to title reigns for Superstars such as The Miz, Alberto Del Rio and Daniel Bryan, who rode his momentum from the pay-per-view all the way to his first WrestleMania match. Who will be the next breakthrough star among the Superstars of Raw and SmackDown? Some of the biggest names in WWE climb the ladder of success at Money in the Bank 2012.

4.0 out of 5 stars Who's Gonna Grab The Case? July 21, 2012
Format:DVD
World Championship Money In The Bank Ladder Match: Santino Marella vs. Tyson Kidd vs. Christian vs. Sin Cara vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Damien Sandow vs. Tensai vs. Dolph Ziggler - As expected in a multi-man ladder match, this was full of crazy moments & spots such as Cody Rhodes backdropping Sin Cara who turned it mid-air into a dropkick on Dolph, Dolph taking very dangerous falls throughout the match including one with Sin Cara, Christian's top rope splash onto the ladder, the involvement of Vickie Guerrero, Tensai's domination, the innovative way Tyson Kidd knocked Dolph off a ladder, Sin Cara having a case of "deja vu", and Cody Rhodes being speared off a ladder. This was one of those ladder matches that was a stunt show with the crazy bumps & spots with the winner of the match reflecting the same feelings I had, "It's About Damn Time!"

World Champion Sheamus vs. Alberto Del Rio - Sheamus came into this match with a bad shoulder from a previous attack & Del Rio targeted it right from start by going to it whenever he could. Del Rio was vicious from the start targeting the arm by ramming it into the steps & ringside barrier & ringpost, applying various types of armbars, and even using Sheamus' attempt at offense against him such as shoulderblocks while also being more aggressive himself with moves like the headbutt. This was a different type of match than we've gotten from both men as Del Rio came off very vicious & more aggressive than usual while Sheamus was more on a defensive style but still made for a good match with the storytelling.

Epico & Primo vs. Primetime Players - It should be noted that Tag Team Champions Kofi Kingston & R-Truth were on commentary which made for some funny moments (depending on your sense of humor) in regards to "Little Jimmy" while A.W. was mic'd at ringside so you could hear everything he was advising Titus & Young throughout the match. This was a rare match these days as two regular tag teams (not two already established top superstars just randomly put together to form a team) had a match that actually has a backstory that's been going on & played out for weeks. This was just a solid tag match that showed off Primo & Epico's fast paced high flying style, showcased PTP being heels telling a good story singling out one member of the team & focusing on the back, and even had some funny moments involving Rosa dancing & A.W. with an afro pick.

No Disqualification Match: WWE Champion C.M. Punk vs. Daniel Bryan with A.J. as the special referee - Both men started unloading on each other with punches & kicks early on while trading momentum with moves like Bryan with a running knee off the apron & Punk doing a springboard clothesline off the barricade onto Bryan crotched on the other barricade. Both men them proceeded to take advantage of the No DQ rule with Bryan using the steel steps & a kendo stick to work over Punk's midsection along with later doing a version of the Yes Lock with the stick while Punk later used the stick himself & did an innovative version of a bodyslam using a chair before a table was later brought to use. Both men continued to go back & forth including a sequence of a GTS attempt into a Yes Lock attempt onto another GTS that was turned into a frankensteiner before a superplex that looked like it took as much out of who received it as the one who gave it. A.J. did play some factors here such as introducing the chair into the match & dropping it in the middle of both men but didn't have the story involving her overshadow the quality match expected from Punk & Bryan with both men using the No DQ rule to add to the match.

Ryback vs. Tyler Reks & Curt Hawkins - This was your typical Ryback match with the except of Hawkins & Reks keeping Ryback in a defensive position with the quick tags & double teaming behind the referee.

Layla & Kaitlyn & Tamina Snuka vs. Beth Phoenix & Eve & Natayla - Despite the fact that this was Kaitlyn's PPV in-ring debut after she won her season of NXT over a year earlier, this wasn't anything past an unimportant short filler.

WWE Championship Money In The Bank Ladder Match: John Cena vs. Chris Jericho vs. Big Show vs. Kane vs. The Miz - Just a few notes here in that this is the first MITB match were all men involved where former WWE Champions & with that stipulation, The Miz was able to make a surprise return earlier in the night & insert himself into this match. Big Show was dominate early causing him to be the odd men out with everyone working together against him from Cena's A.A. through a table followed by being buried underneath ladders. This match was less of a spotfest than we usually get this these matches but still had some entertaining moments like Cena's A.A. on Kane onto Miz who was laying on a ladder, Big Show destroying the ladder before bringing out his own personalized one, Jericho bring a chair into the match, and the fights at the top that still led to an entertaining match.

In the end, this PPV had it's share of good quality matches (both MITB matches & WWE/World Title matches) while the only thing bad I could say was that that last minute filler matches didn't add anything to the show (although the tag match was solid) but the top matches that were advertised for this event delivered overall so this is a show worth checking out.

4.0 out of 5 stars WWE Money in the Bank 2012 review July 15, 2012
Format:DVD
Smackdown's MITB match was a pretty good,hard-hitting,high-flying bout despite some mess-ups & dumb moments. The World's title match between Sheamus & Alberto Del Rio was a solid,back-and-forth bout to say the least. The Bonus tag team match between the team of Primo & Epico and The Prime Time Players(Titus O'Neil & Darren Young) had nice high-flying,double teaming, brawling action. The WWE title match between CM Punk & Daniel Bryan started off pretty good then things really picked up when weapons got involved and AJ played the conflicted referee very well. The handicap match between Ryback & the team of Curt Hawkins & Tyler Reks while not the best match on the card,Hawkins & Reks put up a better fight then Rybacks's past victims. The 6 divas tag team match started off pretty good but fell apart in the end. Not to mention it was short for it's own good. The Raw MITB was a smash-mouth,power-driven,nail-biting brawl. I give this PPV a 8 out of 10.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun stuff, high spots and plenty of crashes... July 15, 2012
Format:DVD
On this night we get to see if one of 4 former WWE champions can get the famed briefcase and if a Smackdown newcomer will become the next in line for a title shot, in the respective Money In The Bank Ladder Matches. Also can Sheamus stop the disarming run of terror by Alberto Del Rio and will CM Punk overcome his nemesis Daniel Bryan and AJ's mental state as the official to hold onto the WWE title?

-Smackdown Money In The Bank Ladder Match, Dolph Ziggler vs. Christian vs. Santino Marella vs. Damien Sandow vs. Tyson Kidd vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Sin Cara vs. Tensai: A mixture of newcomers and veterans in this one, the most shocking had to be Tyson (shocked WWE remembered he was still on the roster), Tensai does dominate early and everyone gets some good spots in. Dolph and Cara crash and burn from the top with Cara taking the worse of it, Christian spears Sandow into a ladder. It stays a good pace but there's some dead air, the closing moments are good where everyone goes for the case only to take a titanic fall.

Cody gets distracted by Vickie long enough to allow Dolph to hit the Zig Zag, Kidd hits a sunset flip into a powerbomb landing Ziggler on his face. Each man then hits move after move with Tensai just hurling Ziggler over the announce table. However soon after Dolph gets back in the match, throws Christian off the ladder and grabs the case to win to a big pop. 8/10 for the closing moments.

-Sheamus does a fairly lame promo hyping his match with Alberto Del Rio.

-Miz comes out saying that since the Raw MITB match is open to former WWE champions he is entering himself in it to become a 2 time MITB winner.

-World Heavyweight Championship Match, Sheamus (Champion) vs. Alberto Del Rio: After weeks of attacking and targeting the arm of the Irishman, we have this contest where Sheamus came out for revenge stomping and working on the head and neck of Del Rio. The pacing just seems off as the crowd sounds fairly quiet, Alberto does work on the arm even slamming it into the steel steps. These two try hard but its just not a very good one, there's the expected comeback by Sheamus which gets a good amount of boos. He ends up hitting the Brogue Kick and covers to retain his title. 5/10, cause Ziggler comes down to cash the case in but he starts jawing with Del Rio then turns into a Brogue Kick, but since the match never started he keeps the case.

-Daniel Bryan is shown from the pre-show talking about how he will win the title and walk out with it and AJ.

-Bonus Match, The Primetime Players w/A.W. vs. Primo & Epico w/Rosa: WWE Tag Team champs R-Truth & Kofi Kingston are on commentary for this contest. A month ago when A.W. screwed over Primo & Epico we have this tag match which sees the high flyers take it to the bigger men before Young and Titus take over working on Epico for a while. There's a funny/offensive comment from A.W. directed at Primo, later Darren hits a gutbuster to Primo but somehow Primo hits a roll-up and gets the 3 count. 5/10 for the commentary and there's a face/off between the champs and the Players where A.W. gets water thrown in his face thats decent.

-No DQ Match for the WWE Championship, CM Punk (Champion) vs. Daniel Bryan, Special Guest Referee AJ: This had some good build-up as AJ has been off her rocker falling in love with and slapping both men after they refused her attention and in her words broke her heart. It starts out with Bryan stomping and kicking at Punk who comes back taking it to Daniel, there's the expected ref bump where Punk accidentaly knocks AJ off the ring apron and she's holding her neck being taken to the back.

Bryan is enraged slamming him into the steel steps and the barricade before Punk makes a comeback, some weapons are brought out, Punk takes a hard shot with a kendo stick leaping off the top rope. Punk finds his third wind and works on him setting up for the GTS, Daniel locks on a surfboard, Punk finds the kendo and smacks him over and over with it. AJ comes back down, grabs a chair and they fight over it, later Punk slams it into Byran. The pace is great and the tension is there as AJ does equal parts messing with both men and helping them. There's a ton of ooh's and ahh's from the crowd and it ends with Punk hitting a back suplex off the top through a table, he covers and AJ counts to 3. 9/10, AJ hands him the title and he celebrates.

-2 on 1 Handicap Match, Tyler Reks & Curt Hawkins vs. Ryback: After each man tried to beat the new Goldberg in singles match, Reks and Hawkins actually get the big man off his feet and wear him down a bit. However there's the expected Ryback charge, he powerbombs Curt then hits the Musclebuster style move on Reks and covers to win. 3/10.

-6 Diva Tag Team Match, Layla, Katlyn & Tamina Snuka vs. Beth Phoenix, Eve & Natalya: Its the standard diva's match, all the ladies get a few moves in and at least its over quick with Layla hitting a quick, stiff neckbreaker on Beth and covers to win. 3/10.

-Raw Money In The Bank Match, John Cena vs. The Miz vs. Chris Jericho vs. The Big Show vs. Kane: After Miz was put into this match its all about which of these former champs is tough enough to win this match, Cena hits an impressive AA on Show driving him through the announce table, then all the guys bury Show under some ladders on the outside. The match has some other good spots, with each guy getting some time to shine, Cena AA's Kane onto Miz who was on a ladder. Show finally comes to and rips apart a ladder, then slams it into Jericho a few times, and Show dominates for a few and pulls out a massive ladder that even he has a difficult time moving.

He climbs it, Kane tries to choke him out, but gets the Knockout Punch, then knocks Cena off the ladder. Chris slams a chair into Show a few times, he and Cena climb, the AA is countered into a sleeper by Jericho and Cena finally succumbs to it. Show knocks Jericho and Miz off, Cena battles with Show slamming the case into his head a few times, the last time he rips the case off the hook and Cena has won the match. 9/10.

The show wasn't too bad, the bonus matches were bad to i guess average, the main event matches were fun and full of good spots. Its worth watching.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very boring, like most WWE PPVs nowadays.
This was one of the worst PPV's the WWE has seen in months. The crowd wasn't even into most of it. The only decent matches were for the WWE championship and the Raw MITB match. Read more
