4.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining enterprise
Ok I had some misgivings about this CD when I ordered it through Amazon.com. I had gotten this CD for my favourite athletes' theme songs and was surprised how well made this CD release was. I absolutely loved and enjoyed the Stone Cold skits, they were hilarious. Disc 1 is the songs and Disc 2 is a bonus CD full of the Making of the Originals.

WWE Originals is good, but like previous wrestling records, it is not without its flaws. Let's take it from the top:

To start off, Steve Austin's segments with Jim Johnston are pretty funny the first few times you hear them, but sadly they get pretty stale the more you listen. But I will give Austin his props, he knows how to entertain his fans and he is done that in just another way, which is pretty darn good.

Moving on, "We've Had Enough" by the Dudley Boyz would make a good entrance theme, but there's just something about Bubba Ray and D-Von barking out what are supposed to be song lyrics that just doesn't fit right. D-Von is pretty good though, but as for Bubba, the bonus DVD shows he has a piano talent so I think he should stick to the ivories rather than singing.

I really do like Trish Stratus's song, and it is by far the best of the three diva songs. Trish has a great voice and it did wonders for her with "I Just Want You." Lita's song is far too edgey for me and her voice isn't up to par with Trish, and as for Stacy, the techno-mixing was put into her song for a reason.

"Crossing Borders" by Rey Mysterio is a high point on the album. I really like the South American touch he brings to the song with all those Spanish lyrics. Not something you can sing to, but it is something you can tap your foot to.

Booker T's theme is good too. All that rapping and kick-ass rock stuff in "Can You Dig It" suits Booker's character to a 'T.' See what I did there?

Alas, all good things must come to an end. And I say that because of Kurt Angle's song. I really think Angle should have been left out of the production and maybe even have been involved in a skit with Austin. I don't like "I Don't Suck" one bit. And oh yes, Kurt, you do indeed suck!

Then there's one of the best songs on there with Lilian Garcia's "You Just Don't Know Me at All." Everybody knows that Lilian has a good voice so there's really not much to explain. Add in an edgey rock and roll melody, and you've got yourself one kick-ass song!

I have no beef with Los Guerreros despite the fact that their song too closely resembles their entrance theme on SmackDown! The song is good and, dare I say it, funny. The only other problem I have is that Chavo and Eddie split up just days after the release of this album, so the theme behind the song is quickly outdated.

Then there's Chris Jericho. It's a good rock song considering Jericho's history with Fozzy. But if this had been a first attempt for him, I doubt if any of us would want to listen to Y2J EVVVVVVVVVVVEEEERRRRRRRR again! But as I said, the song is good. Enough said.

Rikishi, as many have said already, really does resemble Barry White with a bit higher pitch. "Put a Little Ass on It" strongly reminds me of that annoying Mark Henry theme from WWE the Music: Volume 4 called "Sexual Chocolate." Rikishi's song, though pretty good, runs way too long and they could have easily shortened it up by eliminating some of Rikishi's scat ramblings.

Last but certainly not least is John Cena's "Basic Thugonomics." Although it is just Cena's theme song we're hearing, it still does kick total ass! It has to be heard to believed. I promise that you will want to play again and again on the CD stereo of your vehicle. Wordlife indeed!

WWE Originals proves that wrestlers really do have some talents outside the ring. Let's just hope they wait a while before they release Originals 2.

When reviewing this CD you have to take the music on face value and review it like any other album; not as a "wrestling record". To be blunt, this music sucks. Let's get real, the only positive about the CD is the "cheese factor". The lame skits with Steve Austin are a welcome break. Rikishi's track is hilarious, but the man cannot sing at all. Lita, Stacy Keibler, Trish Stratus...their songs are so bland. Jericho comes off as trying to sound too much like Ozzy Osbourne, and Rey Misterio's tune is a veritable clusterf*** of English and Spanish blended into each other. He'll start a line in Spanish then finish it in English; the end results sound like a jumble. Although I'm no fan of rap John Cena's tune is OK, but nothing spectacular. All in all this is some of the worst music ever recorded.

Don't buy this for the music - buy it for the entertainment - after all it's WWE. Stone Cold Steve Austin has almost 8 minutes of skits - DVD lets you see WWE divas. Rikishi's song was the best surprise of all!

4.0 out of 5 stars It's good, January 17, 2004
This review is from: WWE Originals (Audio CD)
i just bought this cd yesterday, and i think its pretty good..for a fact the best song on the CD is John Cena's song "Basic Thugonomics" he truly has a lot of talent..and i adore him, hes great!! but beside that, lol..the dudley boyz song is good, trish's song is okay..shes not that great of a singer, but the song has grown on me, rey mysterio's song is good, booker t's song is good too, i love kurt angle's song ("i dont suck (really)") its hilarious, when he says 'the only white rapper in tune with the brothers' lol that cracks me up everytime! Kurt rocks!

Lillian's song was okay..Eddie and Chavo's song was very funny..Chris Jericho's song was good as well..Rikishi, wow..that man can actually sing..he sounds like Reuben Studdard almost, seriously..i was impressed, Stacy's song, was okay...they just took her voice and like made it all techno..and then you have Stone Cold all throughout making comments to the producer of the cd, its funny..but it gets annoying after awhile...but another great thing about this cd, is that it comes with a bonus dvd, that has everyone recording there songs, its really cool, and fun to watch!

if you are a big wwe fan, then buy the album for your collection...but if you're really not convinced, then just download some of the songs that you're really interested in hearing on kazaa.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not all that good, January 24, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: WWE Originals (Audio CD)
This CD is not that great. Sure, there are a couple of high points on WWE Originals, but for the most part, this CD is just plain awful.

The Austin skits, however, are a nice edition to the CD. In the skits, Austin argues with a producer over how his song should be made, but they never actually get to the point of Austin recording the track. These are pretty funny and the best part is "Austin Doesn't sing!". That's an automatic plus in my book.

But as far as the songs themselves are concerned, most of them are pretty bad. Now I know that some songs on the album (like the ones done by Angle, Rikishi and the Guerreros) are intended for humorous purposes only and aren't supposed to be good. But this album even fails in the funny department. Some songs on here just aren't funny. They may cause a chuckle or two during the first listen, but other than that, the songs get old fast.

Lita's attempt at trying to become a punk rocker is absolutely horrible. Trish's attempt at trying to sing a soft ballad is even worse. Don't even get me started on Booker T's rapping skills, which are also pretty bad. Then we have the Dudleys and Chris Jericho, who are also trying to go for the hard core rocker image in their songs and fail miserably. Rey Mysterio's song has a decent beat to it and his rapping is ok, but the song could be better. Overall, the CD is just not all that appealing. It sucks in the talent department as well as in the comedic department (with Austin's skits being expectations).

However, as bad as this CD is, I gave it two stars instead of one because there are a few high points here. Lillian's track is actually pretty good. She's got the whole rocker vibe going on in her song as well, but this song comes off a lot more gracefully than the other rock tracks on this CD. She has a lot of talent and she isn't just faking it like most of the others do on this CD. It's a decent track overall and I like it.

Another good song on this CD is Stacy Keibler's. Yes, I know the song is techno and corny, but this one worked with me. This one became quite catchy after I listened to it a few times. This song has a good dance beat to it. This track isn't a masterpiece by any means, but it's easily the second best track on the CD, with Cena's obviously being the first. Cena is a great lyricist and his song is very good. He also wrote and produced this track himself (unlike everybody else on this CD) which is also a plus.

This CD definitely has some high points. But sadly, the high points just can't make up for all of the low moments on this CD. Overall, the whole thing's pretty bad. Don't waste your money on it.

3.0 out of 5 stars The most accurate review, July 4, 2004
This review is from: WWE Originals (Audio CD)
Let me start off by saying that this CD doesn't suck, but some of the people on it do.
Stone Cold doesn't sing, but he's very amusing in his dialogue with the producer/writer over several tracks. The surprise of the CD was Rikishi. He sounds very polished like an older performer -i've never heard Barry White, but it seems to be a popular opinion. Kurt Angle doesn't really sing- he chants out a strange "I don't..suck" song that wears away at your nerves. It's kind of funny to listen to once or twice. The Dudley's sounded pretty good even though it personally wasn't my favorite type of music. Chris Jericho is very impressive on his song. The man can sing! It's very heavy rock. I kinda like it. Booker T's attempt at a little rap song is very laughable and it's not worth the listen. The two stand out people besides Jericho were of course, Lilian- what a great voice! She is the one who did Torrie Wilson's theme music and on this CD she had a much harder rock song, but still- what an amazing voice. Beauty and talent. The other standout is the very sexy John Cena. I don't like "gansta" rap, so I really find myself liking his song. I wish he's had more on there. MORE! Plus he's hot. Did I mention that? Then the Guerreros with a typical theme song. Not bad not great. It's good for an entrance to the ring. Rey Mysterio also impressed me with his rhymes. "La vida es duro.." Isn't it true? That brings us to the rest of the females...Trish...don't get me started- she's pretty bad, just skip it. Stacey...they took a smart approach because she can't sing either, and hid her voice behind synthesizers so she's really not singing but talking. The song itself is repetitive but not that bad. Thank God for synthesizers. My ultimate dissapointment was with the last girl. The ultimate diva, Lita. I really wanted to like her song because she's a role model and my favorite female wrestler, and i tried listening to it again and again, but i just don't like it! My boyfriend LOVES her and he didn't like it either. But it kind of grew on me and i just wish the chorus was different. I refuse to say it's bad. I refuse!
In review:
Stone Cold: 5 stars for amusement
Kurt: 2.5 stars
Dudleys: 3.5 (not my kind of music, sorry)

Lilian: 5 stars (wish it had been less rocky)
Rikishi: 4 stars (shock!)
Booker T: 2 stars
Trish: 1 star
Stacey: 2.5 stars
Guerreros: 3 stars
Rey: 5 stars
Lita: undecided
