I really love this game, as well as nearly every THQ wrestling game since WCW VS NWO: World Tour. Still, there are to many details that lack polish, to many bugs and glitches to give it a perfect rating. It's without a doubt the game that crashes the most in my 360 since I bought it, and I've played a lot. It also has a bug that makes my 360 crash every time my created superstar is going to contend for a custom title belt, right after the belt is removed from the HDD (it most be temporarily removed before a title match and re-saved after the match) making me lost the belt and all the money invested in it. It's not that much of a big deal but it's only one of the details that scream the game was rushed.
Another one is the intros, both of them (Raw and Smackdown) are displayed in low-res and full screen only, which is annoying because I bought a widescreen 720p LCD HDTV to play my XBOX 360 games and to have a cheap intro in an HD "next-gen" game makes no sense. Also, the roster feels outdated. The superstar with the highest overall in the roster is Kurt Angle, who's currently at TNA, and superstars like Jeff Hardy and CM Punk are nowhere to be found. There's no hope of updating the roster through downloadable content, since the game does not support it. Another huge letdown is the commentary, which is completely carryover from the 2006 edition. This completely sucks if you played the previous version, and also the fact that Smackdown currently has Bradshaw instead of Tazz doesn't help the game feel less outdated. The game does look great and the sweat effect rules. The divas look hotter than ever and the story mode is way better that 2006's. There's a lot of fun in this game including earning the Money In The Bank trophy (I got it on my second try, my brothers are still trying). THQ should consider adding content download support for the next installment, as well as updates to fix the bugs in 2007. If they do this, maybe they can exceed the glory achieved by WWF: No Mercy in its time.

SvR 2007 is the best game in the series to date. It still has the same fighting style from previous games that we have come to love. The sound and graphics in this game are awesome. The superstar roster is up to date (for the most part) Eugene, Highlanders, Spirit squad, Cryme tyme, MvP, to name a few arn't in the game. This would be my biggest dissapointment with the game but other then that everything is great. Season mode is better then it ever has been giving you more freedom while progressing through the season then previous games. Create a superstar is better then ever going into more depth. Locker room is now bigger and can be customized even more then SvR 2006. You can fight in the crowd in SvR 2007 and grab signs and weapons from the crowd, also new this year enviromental grapples you can smack your opponets head off the stairs and choke them with the camera cord. The backstage is huge. New Unlockable legends such as Bam Bam Bigelow, Mr Perfect, Dusty Rhodes, Cactus Jack, Dude Love, Shane Mcmahon as well as some from previous games Steve Austin, The Rock, etc.. Challenge mode is back from SvR 2006 Trophies and belts to unlock. I think i covered the bulk of the game.
- just a note for anyone not sure: Dx is in the game, you just need to put Triple H and Shawn Micheals in a tag match to get them to come out to Dx Entrance so thats a plus no Dx woulda been weak. My favorite part of the game is Mr Kennedy's Entrance lol it's the best, i watch the whole thing every time. This is the best wrestling game out to date, if your looking for a fun game with endless replay value get this game. Something i didn't mention was online mode, i havn't personally played online yet but i did in SvR 2006 and it was a lot of fun to create your own character and go on and play with thousands of other WWE fans.

I'll start off by saying the game itself is really good. If you have any interest in the WWE, you'll be hooked as soon as you pop it in. Graphics are greatly improved (even over the already good looking 2006 game), the new fighting style is fun, and the career mode is greatly improved from the previous installment. I'm the person who needs to create my own wrestler and drag him through the storyline and make him the main guy on the show, so if you're like me, you'll LOVE the create a wrestler and create an entrance features.
With the good does come the bad though. I'm not sure if it's just me, but I feel as if the title was rushed onto the shelves and the game as a whole is an unfinished project. The roster is lacking pretty badly (you won't find King Booker, instead the 6 month old version Booker T.... who has King Bookers titantron movie during his entrance.. huh?), the game seems buggy at times. I noticed my created wrestler would occasionally lose his custom move list and revert back to the default list... which I'm still not sure why it happens sometimes. There are some other frustrating things, for instance if you don't use a real WWE wrestlers entrance moves (and instead go with Superstar 1 for example) your wrestler won't wear a belt when he comes out. Also, there's no static belt location for created entrances, so if you mix up the moves your wrestler could be coming down with the belt around his waist, then over his shoulder, then carrying it in his hand, and then it not being visible at all. While overall, the game is great and would certainly be appreciated by WWE fans and fans of wrestling games in the past, it's far from perfect. I would reccomend it for now, and I hope the future installments will correct the small errors. I'm still waiting for the flawless, megahit, WWE title to eventually hit the shelves. With 2006 and 2007, it appears they aren't far off.

A GOOD GAME WITH SOME LIMITATIONS ON THE DIVAS...,

I'm currently playing "Smackdown vs Raw 2009", but I thought that I'll go back and review this game.
I think that this game was alot of fun. It has the usual "Season Mode" and "GM Mode". The storylines in "Season Mode" was okay but I did'nt think it was as good as the first "Smackdown vs Raw". On the other hand, I hardly ever played "GM Mode" because I fund it a little boring (my opinion). I really like the "Create A Belt" option because female superstars can compete for the created belts!!! I like to have mixed tag team champions or a diva team. One thing that I did'nt like about the 2009 game is that they got rid of this!! Now that brings me to the one problem that I have with the WWE games, and that is the way they limit women. The "Create A Belt" option saved this game because women are banned from most of the matchtypes! Plus, women can't bleed which is really stupid in my opinion (watch TNA:Impact! Vince & THQ)! I'd say that it's a decent game mainly because of the "Create A Belt" feature. But I don't like the limits that THQ continue to give women in these games. The old wrestling games was'nt like that (women bleed and compete like the men do), and these should'nt be like that either! Well, decent game but THQ need to pay more respect to the ladies.

The game is not bad. I'm a big fan of the NWO series and this game takes me back to that era. Online play is... okay. I have an excellent internet connection and the game still lags just a bit, although a couple matches worked perfectly online. I have had this game over a month now and I haven't even tried all of the other options in the game. Story mode so far is JUST like the show itself. Go ahead and pick this game up if you can't wait for the 2008 edition.

Amazing game that should be checked out by every wrestling fan.
The new gameplay is fantastic and the graphics are awesome. Story mode is kind of crazy if you don't win or challenge for the title. By that I mean Candice Michelle uses a magic wand and turns you into a Diva. I know it sounds lame, but it was actually kind of funny when you had Big Visc coming on to you. 1. Previous WWE games (by THQ) on the xbox have been terrible. But at least they had custom soundtrack options for your created wrestler's entrance. So why did they leave that out in Smackdown vs Raw 07 on the Xbox 360? Even Rumble Roses(360)lets you use custom theme songs. 2. Almost the same commentary in this game as SvsR 06. They just say a few different things about certain Superstars. 3. Am I wrong when I say less moves? Granted they added an awesome way to use powerbombs and samoan drops, but there is a lot of moves from the last game that got cut out it seems like; and I even unlocked all the moves. 4. Create a Superstar feature is great, but with one minor problem. That is the voice options for Season mode are a thousand times worse than the voice options in 06. Thats saying something cause the 06 options where terrible. 5. I had a glitch that whenever I edited my Superstar's appearence some of his moves would set to a default and I would have to keep changing them. If that happens to you then just create a character that you won't use, but give them a moveset. Whenever you want to edit your superstar's appearence, after your done go into create a move and then just Auto Set your moveset from that created character you won't use. Despite these flaws the game is great and if you like the last one you will love this.

I was pretty fired up to play this game right after I got the demo, and it didn't disappoint when I played the purchased game. A minor annoyance: ring music can't be customized. The big one (unless I'm missing something) is you can't play a 'heel' or dirty wrestler in season mode. Unless I missed some setting somewhere (not in the CAW dialogue) any wrestler (created or regular roster) will default to a clean 'face' wrestler when you start the season, complete with the clean move list and taking massive 20+ point momentum hits every time you attempt a dirty move (my created wrestler has a bunch of them). I'm really hoping I have missed a setting or option somewhere since this one glaring oversight really detracts from a pretty good game. I've posted to the publisher and developer sites and will update if they answer. My hope is that XBox Live will post a patch sooner than later. The movelists and momentum boosts/hits (both clean and dirty) seem to function correctly in all exhibition modes.
**Much time has passed - It's August 08** I still play this game. Excellent party game rivaling "Madden". I had underestimated the online community and everyone's contributions to Create-A-Wrestler etc. After completely filling the storage slots with original content (I thought Koko B. Ware, El Condor and Barry Horowitz were pretty good) I came across something: if you play through as a bottomed out wrestler (38 overall rating), earn a lot of xp through matches, you may then copy this wrestler, erase the customization and use him/her as a template to create your own historically accurate roster. The replayability and the previous item on customization make me bump the funmeter to "5/5" and the overall to "4/5", after further review. Oh, and I know '08 has been out. I played it. Like this one better.

Still the same fun as the past years as story mode is pretty good, but animations are outdated and still not as classic as the WWF games on n64.

This is a really fun wrestling game even if the X-Box 360 controlling takes awhile to get used to. I'm used to the Playstation 2 controlling. Plus I still find Here Comes the Pain the one that's easy to want to go back and play again and again. I mean the season mode is the funnest since you can add legends or created wrestlers to the season mode roster. Then you can play any other match on a card besides the matches for the wrestler you chose.
I don't think season mode is that fun without that feature. I mean otherwise you just play season mode to unlock the legends and never go back once you got them. While in Here Comes the Pain I kept going back to play season mode even if I did unlock every legend. This game is fun enough to make you go back for more and more even if it's not for season mode. The GM mode is cool where now you can hire writers and pick the one who's best at writing things like David vs Goliath stories and much more. You then pick the two wrestlers that a best to fit in that feud. I also like seeing Title Mode back. Where you can defend or win a title any time you want. Plus I love that you can rip-up signs from the audience "though I haven't learned how to do that yet. You can also fight in the audience this time around which especially adds more to hardcore matches or Last Man Standing matches. The game also has a good roster even if some are pretty bad choices to have in the game. I mean I always forget guys like Vito, Viscera, Snitsky and Paul Burcham are even in the game. Plus do we really need 4 different Mick Foley's ? I mean you'd think they would've learned by now. All they had to do was have one Mick Foley and just give you the option to change his costume before a match to either Cactus Jack, Dude Love or Mankind. It wastes 3 spaces when they could've added other Legends instead. Instead of Viscera you could've had someone like Sabu instead, instead of Snitsky how about the Sandman, instead of Paul Burcham "how ever you spell it" how about Paul London, Brian Kendrick should've been on it as well. It also feels weird not seeing the Spirit Squard after they've been thrown in our faces constantly on Raw. I also wish Jeff Hardy was on this game. Plus instead of 3 Mick Foley's we could've had Rick Rude, Randy Savage and Owen Hart. Some fans complain about Bam Bam Bigelow and Taz being Legends but I like that. I was a fan of Bigelow in his ECW days. All the WWE did with him was have him lose to a football player at a WrestleMania. While in ECW the guy was almost as unstoppable as Taz. The WWE wasted Taz and of course you wouldn't think of him as a Legend after seeing his WWE Jobber years. However in ECW the guy was an unstoppable animal that is truly worthy of being called a Legend. He was the Stone Cold Steve Austin of ECW. I also like seeing Shane a Legend but if he's one on the game then why isn't Vince ? It feels weird being able to play as Shane but not Vince. Despite minor complaints this is still a really good wrestling game. It is of course still light years better than the first Smackdown vs Raw which I never played as much as Here Comes the Pain. Complete list of Legends I'd like to see in the next game: Hogan, Bret Hart, Eddie Guerrero,Owen Hart, Anvil, King Kong Bundy, Earthquake, The Big Bossman, Brian Pillman, The Demolition Axe and Smash, L.O.D Hawk and Animal, Vince, Shane, Razor Ramon, Diesel, Arn Anderson, The Rock, Steve Austin, Mr. Perfect, Vader, if you unlock Mick Foley you get all his personalities in one without him taking up 4 spaces, Chris Jericho, Yokozuna, Rick Rude, Randy Savage, JBL, Jerry Lawyler,Trish Stratus, Lita and the Ultimate Warrior. The next game should also have a complete list of ECW wrestlers such as RVD, Sabu, The Big Show, Tommy Dreamer, Kevin Thorn, Test, C.M Punk "who I wish was in this one!", Mike Knox and Hardcore Holly. I also wouldn't mind that if you play as a certain popular wrestler in season mode that you can unlock legend type matches as well. Like if you play as the Undertaker you unlock a body bag match that he used to have back in the early 90's. Or that when you unlock Stone Cold you unlock 3 Stages of Hell. Plus would be cool if Psycho Sid was on it and if you unlock him you also unlock the Lumberjack match since he had one with HBK once. Also the games should also bring back I Quit matches.

This game is reminiscent of the Smackdown games of old. I enjoy playing it, but for some reason the creators of this game seem to think less is more in some cases. Some of the moves have been taken out, which is a shame. Alot of items in the Create A wrestler have been taken out too, such as certain hats and necklaces. There seems to be alot less to choose from as far as Designs, shirts, clothes..heck..everything. It's not that big a deal, but why take out things? Another thing I have yet to understand is why the female superstars can only participate in a few certain types of matches. Up until Here comes the Pain, females could wrestle in any kind of match, now they can only wrestle in about ten of the 70 match types available. I don't understand that..hopefully next time they'll make that possible.
I'm not really a fan of the way Yukes decided to only allow certain moves for certain weight classes. Why do that? Heck, the players should be able to decide what moves to use, regardless of the weight. There are alot of glitches, as you've read. I do hope they fix them next time. The create an Entrance is alot better than it was last time, but for some reason there are certain pyro effects, such as smoke, that will not last through the entire entrance a la the Undertaker. All in all though, it is a fun game. I just hope that Yukes will stop with the limitations next time. |
