Play as All Your Favorite WWE Superstars
A huge roster of superstars are included in the game, drawing from the Raw, Smackddown, ECW, and more. Some of the players include: Ashley, Batista, Chris Jericho, Hardcore Holly, John Cena, Kane, Layla, Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio, Shawn Michaels, William Regal, Big Daddy V, Big Show, Edge, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Chavo Guerrero, Finlay, Tazz, and dozens more.

In addition, the Create-a-Superstar returns, letting you customize your own character, play as him through the career mode and become the next superstar. You can also use the new Create-A-Finisher feature to make a unique finishing move by chaining together 10 different animations out of over 500.

Enhanced Tag-Team Matches and Other New Match Types
Tag Team matches are emphasized in Smackdown vs. Raw 2009, and there are many new additions to make the game more realistic and fun. Players can now perform double teams on opponents, such as having one player hold an opponent against the ropes while on the apron, or pulling down on ropes while an opponent is running to send them out of the ring. And there are now different ways of tagging in, such as the forced blind tag and reversible hot tag. Teams also get team-specific finishing moves that are incredibly satisfying to perform.

In addition to tag matches, there are 14 one-on-one match types including the Inferno, Gauntlet, Falls Count Anywhere, Steel Cage and Ladder matches, and even a Backstage Brawl.

Road to Wrestlemania Mode
The single player Road to Wrestlemania mode offers a deep and diverse story line that is filled with brand defections, team building, and strategic alliances. You can choose from Triple H, CM Punk, The Undertaker, John Cena, and Chris Jericho to play in this single-player mode. There is also a story line for co-operative play, in which players control Batista and Rey Mysterio. The story lines are so custom tailored and well done that you might find them more compelling than what you see on television.

WWE fans and fighting game fans alike will both love this latest game, giving them a chance to grapple as their favorite superstars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best wrestling game Ive ever played, November 14, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: WWE Smackdown vs Raw 09 (Video Game)
Now Ive played every Smackdown (vs Raw) game ever and the first Raw game and I have to say this is the best game Ive ever played. Sure it has its faults:

-No Buried alive match
-PSP version doesnt have Downloadable content like PS3 and X-Box360
-Nor the Highlight reel
-Graphics are still average for the psp
-A couple of glitches
-The so called create a finisher is still great but is also has limits like you cant create a high flying move or a submission hold
-No create a belt

But the game has a lot of great stuff:

-Inferno match
-Improved storymode (called Road to wrestlemania)
-More wrestlers that havent been released (with the exception of a few who were wrestled after the game came out)
-Better tag team matches w. more tag teams
-Edit a roster
-Career mode which you experience the life of a wrestler (no cutscenes or storylines though)
-Hot tag is now in the game

This game is so much fun to play with. Buy it if you love wrestling, wrestling games or just video games. You dont need to be a fan of wrestling, you just need to be a fan of games.

4.0 out of 5 stars Take the good with the bad, November 14, 2008
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: WWE Smackdown vs Raw 09 (Video Game)
I've been playing the WWE Smackdown vs Raw games since they came out. While I really enjoy this game, there are a few glitches that have annoyed me.

Pro's:
- Great Graphics! It's hard to image this is on a portable game system
- Fast load times - Thank you! (this has been my complaint in the past)
- Huge selection of wrestlers (but lackibg legends)
- Create a finisher! (Wow - this was a blast to do!)

Let-downs:
- Physics - A lightweight should not be able to toss around the Big Show like he's 150 pounds (but it happens)
- No fighting in the Fan Area (if there is, I haven't found it)
- Not every wrestler available of the Road to Wrestlemania (this is the only segment with a story line)
- Career mode - No story line, just matches...bit of a let down

I've enjoyed playing this game for the last few days, but I just keep thinking that something's missing (like Hulk Hogan). Now, the important question, "Do I recommend it?" Sure why not? It's improved on a few areas, and it's still a lot of fun, but it does feel like it's lacking something.....

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun but with some of the same ole flaws, November 11, 2008

I do like this game but it's not as good as it could have been. What's good about it is that they tried to update the roster, you can download newer wrestlers like Evan Bourne and Ted Dibease. I don't know why you can't get Koslov though, I think he was around longer than Evan Bourne and Ted Dibease. Plus since it's a tag team game, it should at least have tag team Legends that won't be on Legends of WresleMania. Instead we get to unlock lame guys like Tony who's supposed to be a soldier Cena met in Iraq. You also unlock a masked man that attacks Jericho in his Road to WM story. Wrestlers that haven't even been used that much of late are unlockable as well. I mean The Boogie Man hasn't even wrestled since like Fall 2007. I doubt anyone will be excited to unlock Snitsky either. You also get to unlock something that is already lame enough in in the Undertaker storyline, Zombie Santino Merrella, no I'm not kidding.

Even though Legends of WM is coming out I like having to be able to have the older and new wrestlers have matches against each other in the Smackdown games. They've had me used to Legends in the games for years now, so they should have kept that feature. I also got used to GM Mode and they got rid of that too. What they did keep though...is that anyone can still easily toss around the big guys like The Great Khali and the Big Show. I liked how the Great Khali was hard to move around in the 2007 version, they should have left things that way.

The Inferno match is new in the game but it's not even that great. While instead of being called Hardcore matches now, their idea of a new match is Pin Falls Count Anywhere. Which is hardly a difference from Hardcore matches. The tag matches are funner now though with more tag team options. The create your own move feature isn't bad now either. Except I don't think you can make a top rope finisher or a submission move. I also don't like how the theme music of the wrestlers is in the background when you're having a match, is a distraction. I'm also not sure if you can even make people submit to the Regal Stretch, I haven't been able to yet. There's also a bad list of ring music for created wrestlers yet again. While I don't like how the wrestlers get up too quick in this one. All in all, the game is still fun but instead of improving over the years, they seem to be getting more flawed instead.
