Okay, but I was hoping for better.,
By
This review is from: WWE Theme Addict: The Music, Vol. 6 (Audio CD)
This theme collection from the WWE wasn't as highly anticipated as ones from the past. In fact, when I took a look at the track listing and saw which wrestlers were represented, I almost didn't buy it. I decided to give it a chance, though, because Jim Johnston usually does a great job with theme music. Here's what I think of it:
The CD: -"Line in the Sand": Motorhead scores with another solid theme. The hard rock really fits Evolution's "lifestyle" and ring presence. -"Cool": Carlito's "Caribbean Cool" is expressed pretty well in this one; his little catchphrases and spitting sounds all but ruin it, though. -"MacMilitant": This theme actually used to belong to Teddy Long's charge Rodney Mack, but once Rodney was released from WWE, it became property of Mr. Long. A smooth yet hardcore rap with some vicious overtones that don't quite fit in some places. -"Just Close Your Eyes": This one tried to be a departure from the usual angry stuff that's in other superstars' themes, but it's a forgettable female-vocal-over-a-generic-rock-guitar-riff track. -"Dangerous Politics": You know whose theme this is from the first two seconds. Heidenreich repeats his name over and over again (much like his promos) over a heavy guitar riff that gives the impression of an oncoming train. So-so. -"Real Good Girl": So-Cal beach rock with quasi-raunchy lyrics for the Diva Search theme. Yeah, it fits, but didn't really impress. -"Chavito Ardiente": Ooooh, Chavo! This song is perfect for a guy who thinks he's a Latin heartthrob. Not a bad Latino jam. -"The Darkest Side": Oh, boy, another Undertaker theme. This one isn't any different from the version from WWE Anthology except for the subtle drone of the rock guitar under the sinister funeral dirge. Brings back good memories, though, of what the Dead Man once was. -"Child's Play": Eugene's one of the most loved superstars on RAW, and his "Eye of the Tiger"-ish theme is a perfect match. The guitar solo in the middle gets a little out of hand, but maybe that was the intention. -"Don't Mess With": Booty music. Pure and simple. And not even good booty music, if there is such a thing. -"Ain't No Stoppin' Me": In my opinion, the best theme on the CD. Catchy rock/rap beat and positive, almost inspirational, lyrics. I've sung along with Shelton Benjamin's theme a time or two in the car. -"You Can Run": Gangsta rap and Kidman go together like mayonnaise and ice cream. Doesn't fit Kidman's character at all, and the Master P-like grunts in the rap are just annoying. -"Rise Up": Hmmm. Nu-metal. Done to death. Next. -"International Woman": Gail Kim was released by WWE recently as well, and when this CD was put together, she was hardly being used at all. I'm very surprised this one made it to print. Asian-flavored futuristic pop. It grows on you. -"Longhorn": Reminds me of the theme from "Dallas". How appropriate. Skip over it. -"Untouchables": Okay, I'll admit John Cena has a bit of talent as a rapper. He's got decent flow. If you're trying to establish your rap career, though, don't pair up with someone who's better than you, especially if you're advertising a new album coming out soon. That's what happened here. The DVD: -This is just a collection of entrance videos (which play on the monitors in the arena as the wrestlers come toward the ring). Good for one or two viewings at most. This collection is not one of WWE's better ones, and there were a couple of themes that were GLARINGLY omitted. Randy Orton's theme ("Take What's Mine" by Mercy Drive) really needed to be on here, as well as Edge's new "heel" theme. I understand that these songs are owned by licensed artists, but if WWE is using them in the arenas, why can't they put them on the CD, too? It's not like they can't afford to pay the royalties. I would recommend getting this CD if you simply must own every WWE music collection. Otherwise, there are only two or three songs on here worth keeping.

Theme Addict - The Newest WWE Release,
By Chad Mosher (Flint, MI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: WWE Theme Addict: The Music, Vol. 6 (Audio CD)
This CD by the WWE contains all but two current themes. The track listing and reviews follow:
01:"Line In the Sand" - Evolution: The second song made by Motorhead for the WWE. Fits the group perfectly, and is a nice rock song. 9/10 02: "Cool" - Carlito Caribbean Cool: A relatively new theme, surprising it made it on here. The beat is nice, but it gets kind of repetitive after a while. 7/10 03: "MacMilitant" - Theodore R. Long (Previously Rodney Mack) - Pretty good rap/rock combonation. It doesn't fit Teddy as well as it did Rodney. So, I'll balance them out and give it a 7/10 04: "Just Close Your Eyes" - Christian - The full version of a theme Christian debuted only a couple of days ago. It isn't that fitting of him, but nevertheless, it's a very good tune. 9/10 05: "Dangerous Politics" - Heidenreich - Like Carlito, it's pretty repetitive. The beat is nice, but isn't the best when it's repeated for 3:00. 6/10 06: "Real Good Girls" - $250,000 RAW Diva Search - Kinda lame, kinda cheesy. It was nice for the event it was made for. 7/10 07: "Chavito Ardiente" - Chavo Guerrero - Kind of like Carlito and Heidenreich, somewhat repetitive. 7/10. 08: "The Darkest Side [Remix]" - The Undertaker - Very, very sweet remix. It is a combo of 1990's Undertaker, Ministry Undertaker and 2004 Undertaker. Quite possibly the best one on the CD - 10/10 09: "Child's Play" - Eugene - I wish they had his previous one on there, but this one will have to suffice. 7/10. 10: "Don't Mess With" - Victoria - This wasn't so bad. It's a very good song, very fitting for Victoria. - 8/10 11: "Ain't No Stoppin' Me" - Shelton Benjamin - A little repetitive, but not as bad as Heidenreich or Carlito. - 8/10 12: "You Can Run" - Billy Kidman - A little too short, and was released as an online bonus track for 2002's Anthology. If you downloaded that, you aren't missing anything. This isn't really fitting of his character. - 7/10 13: "Rise Up" - SmackDown! - Another great song on the CD.. The fourth song WWE has used by Drowning Pool. It would almost fit any superstar, so it's great that it's for SmackDown! - 10/10 14: "International Woman" - Gail Kim - One of my personal faves, so it gets a little bias. - 8/10. 15: "Longhorn" - John "Bradshaw" Layfield - Another song that repeats over and over again. If it had a different instrumental after about a minute, it'd be fine. 7/10. 16: "Untouchables" by John Cena - A preview of John Cena's upcoming rap CD, not a bad track. - 9/10. All in all, a pretty good CD. It gets an average score of 8/10. I'd reccomend you get out and buy this.

I spit in the face of people who don't want to be cool!,
By Kit (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: WWE Theme Addict: The Music, Vol. 6 (Audio CD)
The 6th collection of WWE entrance themes. Individual song reviews:
1. Line In The Sand (Evolution) - Pretty good song; it's Motorhead, so you can only come to expect greatness from them. My only gripe is that it's a bit.. well, short. 9/10. 2. Cool (Carlito Caribbean Cool) - Now this is cool. Cool like him, Carlito Caribbean Cool. The catchy tropical island music with Carly's dubbed over catchphrases really fit the Caribbean character very well. It's quite reminiscent of a certain wrestling-icon-turned-movie-star, don't you think? "Ohh yeah!" 10/10. 3. MacMilitant (Theodore Long) - Smooth, catchy background music with rap and a bit of funk and soul. Fits the new General Manager very well, and not a bad song to boot. 8/10. 4. Just Close Your Eyes (Christian) - While I do like the song and its dark, somewhat catchy image, I'm not sure how well it fits Christian. Nevertheless, it's a good song. 7.5/10. 5. Dangerous Politics (Heidenreich) - HEI-DEN-REICH! HEI-DEN-REICH! It's insane. It's fun. Who doesn't want to blast this in his stereoplayer and walk around like a madman? HEI-DEN-REICH! 7/10. 6. Real Good Girl (Raw Diva Search Theme) - Fairly average song, but worth a listen or two. 6/10. 7. Chavito Ardiente (Chavo Guerrero) - Probably the closest we'll ever get to Eddie Guerrero's theme. Chavo's version is quite catchy and fits the character well. "Ooooh, Chaaavo!" 8/10. 8. The Darkest Side (Undertaker Re-Mix) - Not the exact same version heard on TV, but not all that off either. The first half of this track is almost identical to the "Graveyard Symphony" remake on TV. After that, a piece of the Deadman's Ministry of Darkness theme chimes in for the latter half. After that minor revisit, we travel back to "Graveyard Symphony", and the song ends there. Personally, I'd rather have the full theme from the shows, but that doesn't mean this remix isn't good. 9/10. 9. Child's Play (Eugene) - One of the catchiest themes on the disc. While I like the older version with less bass, the new remake isn't bad. I just wish that version was included here because it's the theme that we've all familiarized Eugene with. Oh well. I suppose this theme will get better with time. 7.5/10 10. Don't Mess With (Victoria) - Ehhh... I'm not sure I like it. It's catchy, it's somewhat funky, but it's also... stupid. The lack of real, actual lyrical content urks me. It's somewhat good party music, I guess, but... meh. 5/10. 11. Ain't No Stoppin' Me (Shelton Benjamin) - Catchy. Nice. Gets you pumped up, which is exactly what a theme music should do, especially for a guy like Shelton Benjamin. 8/10. 12. You Can Run (Billy Kidman) - Not bad. Not good, either. I don't really like it. 5/10. 13. Rise Up (SmackDown! Theme) - Fairly good theme, and fits the whole feel of the Smackdown! show really well. 7/10. 14. International Woman (Gail Kim) - Eh, it's pop music. It's good to listen to if you just feel like chilling. The song also has a bit of that K-Pop feel, but personally, I don't think Korean pop music has a place in wrestling. 6/10. 15. Longhorn (John 'Bradshaw' Layfield) - Heh, this theme is awesome. I didn't like it when it first debuted on the show, but now I love it -- ever since some guys recommended driving around with it blasting in the car stereo. Best. Use. Of Theme Music. Ever. 10/10. 16. Untouchables (John Cena) - This is the first sample of John Cena's upcoming musical career, and I have to say I like it. No, Cena isn't as good as some of the other established veterans in the rap game, but for a wrestler, he gets the job done. 9/10.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: WWE Theme Addict: The Music, Vol. 6 (Audio CD)
This CD was way better than the WWE Originals, I'm proud to say.
Line in the Sand-Evolution: I sorta liked this one, being a Triple H fan, so yeah, its pretty good. Has that metalish sorta sound to it. Cool-Carlito:........I like Carlito, but this sounded so stupid. I like it only for laughs. Nice tropical beat. But nyah. not something I would dig into. Mac Militant-Teddy long: this song was awesome! I'm a rap fan so yeah, I loved it. Well, except for the guy who's rapping, but the overall beats and rhythms were good. Just Close your eyes-Christian: I'm a Christian fan, but not really for me. I just didn't like it. Dangerous Politics-Heidenreich: This song made me laugh a little. Heidenreich is funny. But this song...it was alright. others I liked: John Cena Chavo Undertaker Shelton Victoria Rise up overall cd was great. you should get it if your a fan.

-Randy Orton "Burn In My Light" by Mercy Drive -Edge "Metallingus" by Alter Bridge thats all that this cd needed to be great, i seem to find that carlitos theme is crap but it always make me laugh.

Nothing Worth The Addiction,
By Wes Michaels (Johnston, RI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: WWE Theme Addict: The Music, Vol. 6 (Audio CD)
In November of 2002, the very first ever "Anthology" of WWF/WWE music came out to a mixed reaction among the wrestling music population. A lot of complaints rose up about the quality of some of the songs, the length, and even which were picked (like in every greatest hits deal, no offering can ever please everybody) although there were strong reasons to be upset. The most glaring error was the length of songs that were literally chopped to make room, leaving quite a few incomplete. So, in October of 2004, they tried again to make a better showing.
ThemeAddict is a sixteen track compilation of mostly the "latest" stars and their music as opposed to a larger group of veteran competitors mixed with the latest tunes of their new brethren. Unfortunately, the songs picked leave a lot to be desired as per a usual Johnston release. Track by track, here's the details. 1. Evolution - Performed by Motorhead, this is Evolution's current theme that is complete, at nearly four minutes. The song was a highly requested addition to any new CD in 2004, but differs considerably from their "exit" music which can be heard on the Smackdown! Here Comes The Pain video game, used when they win a match. A good song, fitted the old four man group well and a solid opener. 2. Carlito - A laid back island beat with occasional Carlito quotes dispersed throughout helps define the Carlito character and is pretty fun to listen to, as well as fits the superstar. Another good addition to the CD. 3. Theodore R. Long - Originally used by Rodney Mack (hence the title MacMilitant) this starts out with generic rap lyrics but towards the end sounds more like the lead singer is constipated with his groaning and muttering. Re-hashed for his former manager Teddy Long because of his emergance as SmackDown's General Manager, but really inappropriate for a 5'5, 140 lb non-wrestler. 4. Christian - To clear up questions, this is NOT the actual, exact version used in the arenas. WWE apparently added parts, guitars, and edited the song itself to loop repetitively around the chorus. Inappropriate for Christian, as it doesn't have the real "feel" for the Christian character but is nonetheless a nicely performed offering from the Waterproof Blonde group, who seemingly cannot make a bad song yet as of this review are still unsigned to a major label. 5. Heidenreich - Repetition personified for three solid minutes, heavy drums and guitar mixes with chants of "Hei-den-REICH!" make the track sound more appropriate for an invading army than a professional wrestler. Decent for the character, but not the best possible selection. 6. Real Good Girl - One of the many Diva Search themes, this was created by WWE staff. A very poor addition, forgettable melody and repetitious lyrics make this no longer used song a waste of time and effort. 7. Chavo Guerrero, Jr - The medium tempo and cries of "Oooh Chavo" remind me slightly of Shawn Michaels' theme, but is mostly instrumental via traditional Mexican instruments amidst occasional Spanish quotes from a female background vocalist. Not exactly Billboard Top 10 material. 8. Undertaker remix - No place on a CD for a remake of a popularly requested theme. WWE really dropped the ball by creating a song for more money when Undertaker's theme had been created in early '04 and was in use! The remix itself combines elements of the current Undertaker theme(think goth instrumentals of "Funeral March") and his older Volume 3 and "Ministry" tune before switching back to end with his funeral march derivative. A good piece if it was added WITH the current Undertaker tune, but in place of? Not right. 9. Eugene - The childlike "savant" of Eugene is given a theme song with guitar solos and a repetitive series of chords that remind me personally of The Rock's volume four song. The earlier version replaced by this was much better as it sounded very like "Eye of the Tiger" but this was pretty dismal with pianos and guitar solos and honestly could have been avoided. Bad call, the instruments just clashed poorly and the song was at least a minute too long. 10. Victoria - One of the absolutely most dreadful excuses for music I've ever heard in my life. Repetitive, absolutely talentless and completely without shame or substance make this a useless tune period. 11. Shelton Benjamin - "Ain't No Stoppin'" gives you a good idea of the grammar and language the lead singer(rapper?) uses as this is a complete joke of a song. Most lyrics are barely indicative of intelligence and the title itself is a grammar faux pas. The attempt to hit up the hip-hop crowd to buy the CD is plainly obvious by now, with a song no different then any other rap hit to deluge the market in the past decade. 12. Billy Kidman - Never before released songs? This near two minute masterpiece gone wrong originally came from WWE.COM as the Anthology bonus track. It was a waste then and still is now. Another generic rap song, originally I thought DMX produced this as the styles are very similiar. Personally, I think Kidman's better off with his old theme from WCW days, which was a rock instrumental as forgettable as he is. 13. Smackdown - "Rise Up" by Drowning Pool - Personally I love Drowning Pool but this song seems to be a lackluster effort. Nobody could deny SmackDown needed a new theme song but this doesn't really seem to be one of those long lasting, memorable tunes. A decent, if forgettable song, and unfortunately so far the brands and GM's have gotten more CD time than the wrestlers. 14. Gail Kim - A long sought after release, "International Woman" (who writes the TITLES of these things? A six year old with a lobotomy could do better!) combines a very J-Electro tune with the haunting vocals that leave Gail Kim's character an enigma. It also remains an enigma why she got fired before this CD came out to hire a few talentless bimbos who can't wrestle over her. 15. J.B.L - As if watching him on TV wasn't enough, now we can hear his theme at home, and if you are lucky enough to have the DVD, the song with an ending! Very generic, sounds like the start of a Texas evening news broadcast, even including the mooing of cows with a stock exchange bell to attempt reflection at JBL's switch from a Texan to a New York self-made millionaire via Wall Street. The song and JBL have one thing in common: Complete filler. 16. John Cena "bonus track" - Untouchables. Never used as a theme song, this was a "gift" from Cena to the WWE for a release to hold over fans anxiously awaiting the billion time pushed-back debut CD of his. In this case, this is one gift WWE should have saved the receipt for. Nothing new here, nothing exciting and basically the song is just a way to promote Cena's upcoming debut into the rap world, rather then use the space for an actual wrestler theme. The DVD contains the following extras: Undertaker's REAL theme, JBL's theme with an ending, and extended versions of Gail Kim and Heidenreich themes. The DVD is worth the extra cash simply for UT's real theme song! The videos are often very forgettable. Overall, this isn't a very packed CD. Notable exclusions? Undertaker real, Eddie Guerrero, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, and Luther Reigns among others. The CD did not break the top ten, which was no surprise to me after realizing that they literally were marketing this thing on the basis that "new stars sell" without checking which new stars they advertised. The truth behind this project was in their advertisement, showing JBL and HHH when the words "theme songs from the only superstars that matter" were uttered, since the company is pretty much revolving around them right now. My favorite remains Volume 3, this is just a poor excuse to throw as many bands as possible and new stars theme music into one CD and hope it gets bought. If there is a Volume 7, may I suggest actually including the -real- versions of a theme in addition to a remix, if one, and also not repeating any previous releases? A poor effort hardly worth the two year wait. I'd recommend only for die-hard WWE music enthusiasts, or any WWE fan with a penchant for hip-hop songs, regardless of quality. Johnston, for his salary and time to prepare these CD's, should be ashamed of himself if this is the best he could come up with.

dMt UPDATED REVIEW,
By
This review is from: WWE Theme Addict: The Music, Vol. 6 (Audio CD)
This CD is only worth buying for Motorhead's "Eviloution" theme and Undertaker's new "Darkness Remix." The rest of the songs are average to worst.
Randy Orton's new theme is sorely missed on this album, and I'll mention some other suggestions for better themes in my song-by-song breakdown. Let's get to it: 1) "Line In the Sand" (Evolution) - A great opening track by Motorhead. Although I detest Evolution as a wrestling fan, I've enjoyed this song since the first time I heard it. It's great to finally have a copy of it. 5-out-of-5 2) "Cool" (Carlito Caribian Cool) - Although I don't care too much for this Razor Ramon wannabe, his theme music is growing on me. It has a nice beat to it and Carlito's lines are worth hearing for a couple of laughs. So I'll change it to 3-out-of-5. 3) "MacMilitant" (Theodore R. Long) - If you're not a wrestler, you should automatically be cut off the track list. This track is foul, playa. I would have replaced it with Booker T's classic theme. I'm still waiting for WWE to release it. 2-out-5. 4) "Just Close Your Eyes" (Christian) - This track would have also been better if they cut to the part that Christian uses for his enterance. It's still a pretty cool, dark song that you might enjoy if you can get past the slow, quiet opening. I'll still say 3-out-5 for now. 5) "Dangerous Politics" (Heidenreich) - This one was pretty cool the first time I listened to it. I like how it repeats Heidenreich's name, and the beat sort of reminds me of the old Sycho SID theme. Fits the character pretty well. Worth listening to, so I'll say 4-out-of-5. 6) "Real Good Girls" (RAW Diva Search) - Another bogus track. They could have at least gave up the theme of the RAW diva winner because it sounds better than this. 1-out-of-5. 7) "Chavito Ardiente" (Chavo Guerrero) - Yikes! This one hurts my ears. Where's Eddie and his "Lyin, Cheatin, and Stealin" theme when I need it? Eddie's the headliner, Chavo is a waste of time, holmes. 1-out-of-5. 8) "The Darkest Side [Remix]" (The Undertaker) - The best track on the album, by far. Quickly makes you forget about those annoying "American Bad Ass" and "Big Evil" themes, and returns you rightfully to the dark side. 5-out-of-5. 9) "Child's Play" (Eugene) - This track had me wondering when Rocky Balboa joined the WWE. It's ok, but again I question why the WWE believes we want to listen to lame themes like this one. 3-out-of-5. 10) "Don't Mess With" (Victoria) - Her "All the Things She Said" theme by Tatu sounded much better and fit better with Victoria's character. This one's just plain annoying. 2-out-of-5. 11) "Ain't No Stoppin' Me" (Shelton Benjamin) - This track is a lot better, although I miss Benjamin and Haas' old "World's Greatest Tage Team" theme. I guess I'm just a sucker for instrumental music in comparsion to enterance themes with words, but this one is much better than what I've heard elsewhere. 4-out-of-5. 12) "You Can Run" (Billy Kidman) - I only like how this song starts off, the rest is pretty lame. Doesn't really fit with Kidman, and it's a pretty old theme. I'll still say 3-out-of-5. 13) "Rise Up" (SmackDown theme) - It's better than the RAW theme, but I still prefer to have themes from wrestlers over soundtracks of shows. This track is pretty good. Worth 4-out-of-5. 14) "International Woman" (Gail Kim) - Cool theme. Good beat, but I don't too much for the singing. Still worth 4-out-of-5. 15) "Longhorn" (John Bradshaw Layfield) - Terrible theme seems to suit one of the worst WWE champions of all time, but I won't be listening to it very often. 1-out-of-5. 16) "Untouchables" (John Cena) - I am disappointed with this track because I thought it was Cena's enterance theme. I hear it's on WWE Originals, which doesn't make sense to me because since that was supposed to have original songs on it. Cena's theme should be on this CD because it's called "Themeaddict" for wresting themes. He's a pretty good rapper, but just like The Rock's "Pie" on Volume 5, Cena's new song just doesn't fit here. 3-out-of-5. One last update - For those who don't know and are interested in more info on Edge's new HEEL theme: The song is called "Metalingus" and is performed by Alter Bridge from the album "One Day Remains." Check it out!

Some of the songs are just awesome, and others are so-so.
1) Evolution= 4 stars, Awesome rock music, definitely fitted Evolution's style and attitude, 2) Cool= 4 stars, I love his catch phrases and that tropical island music is fun. "I spit in the face of people who don't want to be cool!" 3) Macmillitant= 1 star, Nothing much other than rap music turned down a few notches in the intensity level. 4) Close your Eyes= 3 stars, It's Chrtistian letting loose his inner passion to be the best. 5) Dangerous Politics= 3 stars, It's sort of entertaining listening to the "HEI-DEN-RICH!" chants. Its hardcore rock definitely fits Heidenrich's intense nature. 6) Good Girl= 2 stars, Just a guy talking about a girl, yada, yada, yada.... 7) Ohhhh Chavvoo!!= 3 stars, It's funny listening to that girl yell "OHH Chavoo!" and "WOO!" and when she inhales like she's excited. The mexican music also was fun and different. 8) Undetaker= 5 stars!, Definitely Undetaker material!! It doesn't get much better than this! He's the dead man and he kicks butt! 9) Eugene= 4 stars, Very playful and the 'rocky-like' theme to it made it somewhat inspirational. Overall I liked it, but liked his theme music before this theme music even more. 10) Victoria= 2 stars, Just a girl with a tough attitude along with party music that's sort of ok, when you're having a party and celebrating. 11) Shelton Benjamin= 2 stars, the kid's got heart and he's showing everyone out there how good he is. This song indeed fits his ring performance. 12) Billy Kidman= 3 stars, You can run if you want to. It fits Kidman's wrestling character even more since he turned heel. 13) Smackdown Theme= 4 stars, What a way to start off Smackdown, gets you psyched up for action. 14) Gail Kim= 2 stars, Don't understand it, but it does have passion to it. 15) JBL= 4 stars, it's fun, entertaining music that sounds like a piece of music from a movie like "City Slickers" either as the movie's starting or with the credits going up at the end. The mooing cow and railroad track bell also make it more interesting. 16) John Cena= 4 stars, John Cena raps during the first half and then one of his friends does the 2nd half. It's got a good melody to it. Overall, it was worth the money to buy the CD. |
