WWE Unforgiven 2006 Review,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: WWE - Unforgiven 2006 (DVD)
Getting right to it,
*Intercontinental Championship: Jeff Hardy vs. Johnny Nitro (c) Alot of submission use in this match, especially by Nitro on working Hardy's lower body. The Toronto crowd was involved in this match, but not heavily, which I believe helped the match. Not too exciting, but a good contest between the two. Overall Rating: 8/10 *Kane vs. Umaga This was a short match, since it ended up being a Double Countout in about 8 minutes. Pretty much just the usual back and forth action that you'd expect between the two, but fair brawl nonetheless between the Big Red Machine and the Samoan Bulldozer. Overall Rating: 6/10 *World Tag Team Championship: The Highlanders vs. The Spirit Squad (c) This match saw The Highlanders pretty much dominate for the most part. Kenny and Mikey were the two defending the World Tag Team titles in this bout. Lots of near falls and pretty much an above average tag team contest for which we would see these days. Overall Rating: 7/10 *First-Ever Handicap Hell in a Cell: D-Generation X vs. Shane McMahon, Vince McMahon & The Big Show The newest Hell in a Cell was introduced, with JR mentioning it being "20 feet higher" and other aspects of it being better than the original. Lots of blood in this match, which is no surprise. Vince McMahon joins his very own club when DX shoves him into Big Show, which was a funny moment. I was surprised when Shane McMahon lifted up Triple H in an Torture Rack position, since I don't see that often out of Shane. Lots of brutality as well, for when Triple H cracked (that's right, cracked) the sledgehammer on the back of Mr. McMahon's neck. I think it would of been better if they would of went to the top, which remains to be a favorable moment for Hell in a Cell matches. Looks like they stopped having the superstars do it ever since back in 2002's Judgment Day. Nonetheless, great match. Overall Rating: 9/10 *Women's Championship: Lita (c) vs. Trish Stratus This was a very special match for Trish Stratus, since it was her last one and it was held in her hometown. This match was more fitting since it was against one of her most noticed long-time rivals, Lita. Good and enjoyable match, with the highlight being the Sharpshooter, which received a spectacular response from the Toronto crowd. Overall Rating: 8.5/10 *Randy Orton vs. Carlito Another enjoyable match, with lots of aerial action by Carlito (including a Corkscrew Senton and a Moonsault right after). Nice finish with Orton catching Carlito in mid-air with an RKO, after Carlito unsuccessfully tried another Corkscrew Senton. Good match and I'd like to see another rematch with more time sooner or later. Overall Rating: 8/10 *WWE Championship: Tables, Ladders and Chairs: John Cena vs. Edge (c) Easily the match of the night, with the Toronto atmosphere on Edge's side. Edge comes out to great ovation, and this time, a respective look on his face. Cena comes out to a whole chant of boos, as expected. It was John Cena, the challenger who never been part of a TLC match against Edge, the reigning champion who has never lost a TLC match. Some people thought that Cena wouldn't take a bump, but wrong they were. Lots of creative use of the "hardware" by Edge, including a leap from the ring to Cena when Edge ran up a slanted ladder connected to the turnbuckle. Surprise moment when Lita comes out of nowhere and lifts the ladder to knock John Cena out of the ring, through the air, through a table out on ringside. This was a great TLC match which saw Edge being F-U'd by Cena from the top of a 16-foot ladder onto two stacked tables. Great moment there, and a fantastic one-on-one TLC match. Overall Rating: 9.5/10 Overall Pay-Per-View Rating: 56/70 = 8/10 = **** (4 stars) All the matches on the card were good, with the exception of Kane vs. Umaga which I thought was fair. Nonetheless, my recommendation would be to buy the event. You won't be disappointed!

Very Good PPV DVD Release!,
By
This review is from: WWE - Unforgiven 2006 (DVD)
While short on extras, WWE Unforgiven 2006 didn't really need them (though some more extras concerning Trish Stratus would've been nice) as the card pretty much was the feature!
Jeff Hardy Vs. Johnny Nitro w/Melina (WWE I-C Title Match) - Very good opener. I have to say that Jeff and Nitro surprised me with their use of actual wrestling moves as well as high risk moves! They are no Kurt Angle or Samoa Joe by any means but it was impressive to see that out of these two. Bad ending with the always hot Melina BUT it shouldn't take away from this match which was an excellent opener! Matt/Jeff Hardy meet up - After this match, the two Hardy brothers meet up for the first time in a long time! Wait until you see who else shows up! Very surreal! Kane Vs. Umaga w/Armando Alejandro Estrada - Not a great match but a pretty good brawl between these two. Was impressed with the agility of Umaga! Double countout result doesn't take away from this bout either. Spirit Squad Vs. The Highlanders - Weakest match on the card but not a bad match by any means. Some impressive double teaming by both teams. Spirit Squad takes it via the numbers game. D-Generation X (Shawn Michaels/HHH) Vs. Vince & Shane McMahon/The Big Show (Hell In The Cell) - This will not go down as the best HITC but it certainly was one that had some of the most memorable and brutal spots ever in the history of that match! Pace was very slow but there was enough brutality, violence and even comedy to keep you entertained. The ending with HHH cracking the sledgehammer over Vince's back made me cringe! As for DX shoving Vince up TBS' a**, well, you couldn't pay me ENOUGH money to do that to me! LOL! Anyway, excellent bout. Not the best HITC but definitely not the worst (that still belongs to Undertaker Vs. the late Big Bossman in 1999 at WrestleMania). Lita Vs. Trish Stratus (WWE Women's Title) - If Trish Stratus had to end her career going against any opponent, then I think its only approriate that it was Lita! These two have had excellent and entertaining matches for years against each other and this one was one of the best! I would rank this a close second to that classic they had once on RAW near the end of 2004 when Lita defeated Trish for the Women's title. This time, it was Trish defeating Lita in her final match using a surprise Sharpshooter to win by tap out! To my recollection, neither woman has ever used a submission hold to win a match so this was a nice surprise. On a personal note, let me say that while I was never a huge Trish fan, I did grow to respect her over the years. She went from being just a pretty face at ringside (a role that she could've stayed in and STILL could've had a successful career) to a pretty good wrestler in the ring! Quite frankly, I think the current roster of WWE Divas should take notes from her (and even Lita for that matter) on how a WWE Diva should be. While I like tight clothes and nice bodies as well as the next guy, it is nice to see a female performer that actually has ability in the ring! Her absence is already being felt as we really only have Lita, Mickie James, Victoria and the underused Melina with any real ring talent left. Anyway, I digress. Great match and a wonderful way for Trish to go out! Carlito Vs. Randy Orton - Very good match! Carlito showing high risk offense that I didn't know he had! As for Orton, I can't stand him but I have to give him some due here. That was a phat-a** RKO he put on Carlito as he flew at him with a high risk move! Again, can't stand him but I give him props for that move! Good match by both men. "Doctor Of Thuganomics" John Cena Vs. "Rated-R Superstar" Edge (WWE Title Match/TLC Rules) - This is a match that Edge has never lost on PPV! I stress that because he HAS ACTUALLY LOST ONCE IN THIS TYPE OF BOUT! It was in 2001 when Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho won a TLC match on then-WWF Smackdown against Edge/Christian, The Dudley Boyz (now Team 3D) and The Hardy Boyz for the then-WWF Tag Team Titles. So, Edge has actually lost one of these BUT not on PPV until this match. Going in, not only did Edge have the advantage of experience in this bout, but he had home field advantage in that it was in Toronto, Canada! The reception Cena got was very decidedly bias in favor of the champion. Not as bad as ECW One Night Stand but pretty close! To the match itself, it is something to see as both men pulled out all stops. This is arguably Cena's best performance ever as he used his usual moves in very UNIQUE ways, including an FU from the top of the ladder through two tables to Edge! Great main event! Overall, this is worth the buy! Just to add, my copy came with the solo Trish Stratus release that came out back in 2003. Don't know if Amazon.com's comes with that but my copy did!

Unforgiven,
By Frank Xabiano "frank" (grand rapids,MI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: WWE - Unforgiven 2006 (DVD)
Unforgiven was a good PPV, probably the best RAW brand PPV that i've seen since Vengeance 2005. Here is my analysis:
1. Intercontinental Championship Johhny Nitro (c) vs Jeff Hardy Good match, with johnny targeting Jeff's leg for a long time. Ugly ending with hot Melina involved. Good opener. (7/10) 2.Kane vs Umaga I wasn't expecting a great match, but it was entertaining. Bad ending with the double countout. (5/10) 3.World Tag Team Championship Spirit Squad (c) vs The Highlanders Regular match, again the squad retaining and again it is Mikey and Kenny. They don't let Nicky, Johnny and specially Mitch (who never wrestles) show up. Highlanders have good tage team moves but not good enough. The RAW tage teams are weak now. (6/10) 4.Hell in a Cell Triple H & Shawn Michaels (DX) vs Vince McMahon, Shane McMahon & Big Show What a match, with some tough spots, and the opening of Big Show's "Kiss my $ss club", with Vince as the first victim. Lot of blood, amd a good ending. Not the best HIAC but good. (8/10) 5.WWE Women's Championship Lita (c) vs Trish Stratus I love Trish, and this a what the best ending for her career, with her seventh title. Nice ending with turning Stratusfaction into a Sharpshooter. (8/10) 6.Randy Orton vs Carlito Nice match and this proves that Randy is a hell of a wrestler, despite his cockyness in real life. I hate Puertoricans, and specially Carlos. I loved when he got caught by an RKO in mid-air. (9/10) 7.TLC Match for the WWE Championship: Edge (c) vs John Cena This was a show stealer. At last cena gets the tile back. Some tough spots like the STFU through the ladder, the 5knuckle from the ladder, cena landind ona table, and EDGE FU'd through 2 tables from a 16ft ladder. What a match. (10/10) Overall the best things were HIAC, Trish and TLC, and also a puertorican losing. Great PPV.

This review is from: WWE - Unforgiven 2006 (DVD)
Ive seen most of the matches on seperate dvds but wanted to watch the whole event. Pretty awesome event for 2006.
Johnny Nitro VS Jeff Hardy: These two really put up some good fights for the intercontinental title; Actully made the belt seem credible again. Hated the ending though Kane VS Umaga: Anther good feud but they had a better match on Raw. Highlanders VS Spirit Squad: Bathroom break Lita VS Trish: Snack break. Nice to see Trish go out on top though. DX VS Big Show and The McMahons: Pretty good brawl. Big Show really didnt do much but it was still worth watching. Randy Orton VS Carlito: Match of the night. Its too bad Carlito is under used by WWE but this match shows his poetinal. The end of the match was amazing! Cena VS Edge: Cena beats Edge in a TLC match in Edge's hometown. Good move? I dont know because I dont care for either wrestler. Still a very good match. This was one of the best 2006 PPVs, even though WWE really did a good job in 2006 on there PPVs. Highly recommended.

BEST RAW PPV OF THE YEAR!!!,
By
This review is from: WWE - Unforgiven 2006 (DVD)
Unlike New Years Revolution, Backlash, and Vengeance....Unforgiven didn't have any matches or segments that should have been saved for RAW instead of an event people are paying money to see. They gave the best possible card they could & everyone I felt put forth a great effort in the matches I saw.
Intercontinental Champion Johnny Nitro w/Melina vs. Jeff Hardy - Good way to open the show as Hardy showed more passion that I saw in TNA or even his last year in WWE. Nitro earned by respect in this match as well since they did do some high flyin' but also did in-ring storytelling by Nitro. Great opener. Kane Vs. Umaga w/Armando Alejandro Estrada - After seeing Umaga squash no-name talent & jobbers like Eugene for months along with Kane going through horrible storyline after storyline...they both came with their A game here for this brawl. This isn't a wrestling match, it was a brawl but it was the best "fight" I've seen either one of these two in a very long time. Again, it's a brawl but they leave you wanting more. World Tag Team Champions Spirit Squad Vs. The Highlanders - I don't know about this one because the DVD I rented from the store had a scratch on this match & it just kept skipping in my DVD player so I can't comment on this one. D-Generation X Vs. Vince & Shane McMahon/The Big Show (Hell In The Cell) - Before the match even started, the NEW Hell In A Cell was really something to see...I think it doubled in size so the though of anyone going off the top of this one is out the question. Now I was expecting Undertaker/BossMan II as I haven't enjoyed most of the matches involving the McMahon's this year & Big Show is only good when another wrestler is selling alot of punishment from him...which DX doesn't do. However, this to me was the best match from the whole McMahon/DX fued. It wasn't the best HITC but some of the moves & actions in the cage either make you want to laugh (Show getting constantly kicked in the nuts), puke (Big Show's KISS MY ASS club) or make you cringe (HHH's sledgehammer show to Vince). There was enough here to keep you entertained throughout the match. And extra credit to Shane McMahon because I really thought the guy was seriously injured after the match but he just knew how to sell really well. WWE Women's Champion Lita Vs. Trish Stratus - Let's face it, Lita has been a shell of her former self ever since she got injured back in 2002 & again in 2004. I was thinking that they needed either Mickey or Victoria if they wanted Trish's last match go to out with a bang but I was wrong as Lita stepped her game up higher than he had since 2002 and they had the best women's match in recent history. And boy, those canadians sure do pop for the sharpshooter don't they. You'll be missed Trish & what a way to go...out on top. Carlito Vs. Randy Orton - These two did a great job of following up the most emotional match (Trish) & brutial (HITC) matches of the night so far. Carlito pulled out some moved that we've rarely (if ever) seen from him before while Orton did bring his A game here. Great follow up match. TLC match: WWE Champion Edge vs. John Cena - As a side note, I don't like that WWE chooses to re-write history & say that Edge never lost this match when most of the wrestling world knows he did in TLC III on SmackDown in June of '01. Now that I got that rant out of the way, Cena was of course booed out the building due to the fact they were in Edge's hometown but that's when Cena is at his best (remember One Night Stand). Again, both men brought their A game & resulted in a great main event. DVD extras include the skits after SummerSlam when DX spraypainted Vince's plane & Titan Towers, Trish Stratus' last interview, and the RAW main event from MSG the week earlier featuring Vince McMahon vs. Triple H. Again, best RAW PPV of the year & I highly recommend.

Unforgiven 2006 - Hell In A Cell AND TLC Matches!!!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: WWE - Unforgiven 2006 (DVD)
Unforgiven '06 looks to be the greatest PPV of the year! I expected SummerSlam to be a classic but it was one of the worst shows I've ever watched! At Unforgiven we will definetly be seeing not only a Hell in a Cell match, but also the return of the TLC match to Pay Per View! Now onto the matches:
2-ON-3 HANDICAP HELL IN A CELL MATCH D-X VS. THE McMAHONS & ECW CHAMPION BIG SHOW I think that this will be the main event as Cena can't main event ANOTHER PPV, and the PPV will end with the break-up of D-X. Obviously it will be the King of Kings and HBK that carry the match, and I think every man in the match will bleed like hell. Triple H will be screwed by Show as he will Pedigree either Shane or Vince but will be thrown from the ring to prevent a cover. This match should be amazing, with Shane, Vince, Big Show, and D-X all going to the top. The match will end when Big Show and the McMahons are nailed with a Sledgehammer on top of the Cell, then Show is hit by Sweet Chin Music followed by a Pedigree to put him through the top. D-X will win - although the McMahons might end the rivalry with a win - but either way I think Triple H will suddenly turn on HBK and nail him with the Sledgehammer to break-up D-X (this also gives HBK a good excuse to leave WWE for knee surgery). Should be around 15-20 minutes. The McMahons will be happy and Triple H will go for the I.C. Championship (he won't win the WWE gold for a while - maybe WrestleMania 23). Should be damn good, if not a classic. Long live the King!!! WINNERS: D-GENERATION X via SWEET CHIN MUSIC & PEDIGREE 10/10 FINAL ENCOUNTER - TLC MATCH FOR THE WWE CHAMPIONSHIP WWE CHAMPION EDGE VS. JOHN CENA This will be the match that ends the 9 month feud between Edge and Cena. I'm guessing it will be around 25 minutes. Hopefully Cena will win the title back (lets see an F-U off of the top of the ladder through a table!) and will face the Legend Killer at Cyber Sunday. This will be another bloody match, and I think Randy will interfere and RKO Edge to give Cena a chance to recover from a Spear off of the Ladder. Then Cena and Randy can start the feud of the year, going 1-on-1 at Survivor Series where neither man has lost! Edge will have had a good 3-month reign as champ, but now it's time for the real Wrestling God, Randy Orton, to become the Man! I'm going for Cena, but if Edge wins I hope Cena isn't made into a joke at the hands of Theodore Long! Expect everything to be used, along with high-risk moves, signature moves i.e. Edgecution, 5-Knuckle Shuffle & Edge-O-Matic. I wanna see Edge bleed like he did at WrestleMania against Foley!!! But please NO STF-U! It's just the STF, it's crap! WINNER: NEW WWE CHAMPION JOHN CENA via the SUPER F-U 10/10 RANDY ORTON VS. CARLITO (W/ TRISH STRATUS) As you might have guessed, Randy is my favourite wrestler, and WWE is making him more and more like the legendary Rock. Orton got mad at Carlito when he was prevoked the night after SummerSlam, and was attacked after 'losing' to Ric Flair. Randy then jumped Carlito and Trish backstage. Carlito then cost Randy and I.C. title opportunity later on RAW. Both men are great athletes, and I really like Carlito's new springboard/ high-flying style. Randy is finally becoming a main eventer again - what the hell was that about at SummerSlam?! Hogan should NEVER have beaten the Legend Killer, especially not in MATCH 3 of 7!!! I expect 15-20 minutes of fast-paced, intense action, with Trish inadvertenly costing Carlito the match, resulting in the Legend Killer hitting the deadly RKO off of the top ropes for the win. Hopefully we will see a Flying Cross-Body, Legend Killer Back/Neck-Breaker and Powerbomb-style Neckbreaker from Randy, and the Springboard Elbow, Cross-Body and Corkscrew Moonsault from Carlito. Carlito will be going high but Trish will accidentally fall into Carlito when she is on the apron, allowing Randy to hit a Super RKO in which NOBODY has, nor ever will, kick out of. Carlito will come really close, but Randy HAS to win for him to be allowed a title shot at Cyber Sunday. After Randy leaves the ring I think Carlito and Trish will make-out in Trish's last PPV appearance. WINNER: LEGEND KILLER RANDY ORTON via the SUPER RKO 10/10 KANE VS. UMAGA This will be Umaga's best match to date, but it will show the end of his undefeated streak. I think it will be about 5 minutes long as Umaga doesn't seem capable of long matches. Both monsters will fight well together, with Umaga and Kane all hitting signature moves, i.e. Free-Fall Samoan Drop, Sidewalk Slam, Flying Clothesline etc. Umaga will hit the Samoan Spike but Kane will kick out, and Kane will hit the Chokeslam but Umaga will kick out. They will probablly have a brief staredown before Umaga attempts a running Samoan Spike, but Kane will duck and Armando will be nailed instead. Kane will then hit another Chokeslam from Hell for the pinfall. The true monster will stand tall at Unforgiven! WINNER: KANE via TWO CHOKESLAMS FROM HELL 7/10 WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP - TRISH'S LAST MATCH WOMEN'S CHAMPION LITA VS. TRISH STRATUS Although I normally hate Women's matches (NOT being sexist btw), I really like Trish and it will be sad to see her go. I think that this will be a long Women's match, with Trish winning after Mickie comes down and hits Lita in the back of the head with the title, followed by the Chick Kick and Stratusfaction for the pin. Trish will retire as champion, with WWE presenting her with the title as she is the most decorated Diva in WWE history. The next night on RAW a new Women's Championship will be introduced - which Melina will win at Cyber Sunday in a Battle Royal. I think Trish and Mickie will hug after the match, despite their past. WINNER: NEW WOMEN'S CHAMPION TRISH STRATUS via STRATUSFACTION 7/10 3-WAY WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS SPIRIT SQUAD VS. THE HIGHLANDERS VS. EUGENE & JIM 'HACKSAW' DUNCAN I have a feeling that this match will happen, although I think it will be just pathetic. I expect the Spirit Squad to use their numbers advanage to retain here. Really don't know what to expect because whenever any of these Superstars compete I watch something else. Won't be crap, just won't be all that good. WINNERS: WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS SPIRIT SQUAD 6/10 RIC FLAIR VS. CHRIS MASTERS This is just a guess at a possible filler match. Masters hasn't been seen on RAW in a while, and yet he is a good Superstar! This would be short and sweet, with the Masterpiece winning via the Masterlock. I'm guessing the match would be around 4 or 5 minutes, with Flair hitting his usual thousand chops (can he actually punch or kick?! - whooooooooo!) and Masters overpowering Flair towards the end. Masters will pick up his first PPV win...finally! WINNER: CHRIS MASTERS via the MASTERLOCK 5/10 INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH I.C. CHAMPION JOHNNY NITRO (W/ MELINA) VS. JEFF HARDY I am really happy that Jeff is back on RAW, especially as he is in singles action now. Nitro is really athletic, with Hardy simply a complete nutjob. I expect a really fast flowing opener to the show, with lots of counters and Jeff hitting the suicidal Whisper in the Wind from the top ropes to get a near fall. Hardy will win his return PPV match via the Twist of Fate and Swanton Bomb for the pin. Triple H will win the title from Hardy at Cyber Sunday I think, or maybe a Survivor Series. The Hardcore Legend, Mick Foley, will come to the ring after Hardy leaves the ring as the new champion, and will destroy Nitro with a barbed wire bat. Hopefully he will also hit Melina to shut her up - setting up Foley vs. Nitro in a stipulaton match at Cyber Sunday. Anyway, the extreme Jeff Hardy will win a really good opener and leave the new I.C. Champion!!! WINNER: NEW I.C. CHAMPION JEFF HARDY via the SWANTON BOMB 8/10 If all of these matches happen then Unforgiven should be able to just beat the great Vengeance PPV earlier in the year. Can't wait!!!

This unforgiven was proboly the best of them all. This is a dvd i highly recommend for any wwe fan. Thanks for reading and please rate!
Intercontinental Championship Johnny Nitro vs. Jeff Hardy Great opening match to start off unforgiven. Lots of highflying moves and submissions. The match had some exciting parts to it and overall it is a match that is worth the time to watch. Match Rating:4/5 Kane vs. Umaga This was a good brawl between these two big men. The match got slow at times but througout it was average. Didn't really like the double countout at the end, which kind of ruined the match for me. Match Rating:2.5/5 World Tag Team Championships The Spirit Squad vs. The Highlanders Actually this was an above average tag match, which kind of suprised me. Lots of close falls, and to sum it up the highlanders dominated the majority of the match, but came up short. Match Rating:3.5/5 Handicap Hell In A Cell Match D-Generation X vs. The McMahons and The Big Show This was one of the most bloody and brutal matches I have seen in a while! Lots of brutality including triple h cracking the sledgehammer right over mr. mcmahon's head, which was the highlight of that match for me and a nice coast to coast by shane on hhh aswell. Even some funny parts in this one, but overall it was a bloody and brutal bout. Match Rating:5/5 Women's Championship Lita vs. Trish Stratus This was trish's last match before retiring and it was pretty good. The match was very solid between these two rivals and after trish won the crowd gave here a standing ovation. Emotional and great womens matchup. Match Rating:4/5 Carlito vs. Randy Orton This match was good, but to short. Lots of highlight real moves by carlito and a nice ending where orton does a mid-air rko to carlito to win. Match Rating:3.75/5 Tables, Ladders, And Chairs Match For The WWE Championship Edge vs. John Cena Match of the night here. The toronto crowd booed cena, which was no shocker and cheered the hometown wrestler edge. Edge defiently had the upper hand being in his hometown in a match that he was nearly unstoppable in. This had nice weapon spots especially with tables. A few nice spots with cena and edge falling of the ladder back to back through tables. Awesome moment at the end where cena gives edge the fu off the top of the ladder through two tables and then cena pulled down the belt and won. Great way to end a very solid ppv. Match Rating:5/5 This was easily the best unforgiven and maybe even ppv of the year 2006. Great dvd!

This review is from: WWE - Unforgiven 2006 (DVD)
Match #1: Intercontinental Championship: Johnny Nitro (C) w/Melina vs. Jeff Hardy-- I suppose i'll take the minority position and say that I thought this was pretty bad. Nitro has the goods when he's got someone to guide him, but Hardy on the other hand is the epitome of a guy who just goes out there and runs through spots with no rhyme nor reason. This is decent enough and does what it was meant to, but really neither guy does much of anything substantive. When you can't work the mic and can't work a real match, you get into this business of doing crazy spots to out do the last crazy spot you did. Once you're out of crazy spots, there isn't much. Neither one of these guys, if they don't work on their presentation, will ammount to anything. This is what it is. *1/2
Match #2: Kane v. Umaga-- Really, the good-ness of Umaga was really starting to peak it's head out in this feud and it's a damn shame it got cut off when it did, because Kane had some legit fire for the first time in forever. This isn't GREAT per sae, but it's solid stuff and had they really gone the extra mile with this feud, it'd have been a great kick off to everything. It is what it is, but has flashes of some really fun stuff. ** Match #3: World Tag Team Championship: The Highlanders v. The Spirit Squad-- Wow, this was a heck of a lot shorter then I figured it'd be. Really, this is a slightly above average TV match. *3/4 Match #4: WWE Women's Championship: Lita v. Trish Stratus-- This was solid stuff as can be imagined. They gave these two a good 15 minutes to work with and they put together a well-paced Women's match. The ending sequence was sensational. This is a high-quality women's match. *** Match #5: Hell in a Cell: DX v. The McMahons & Big Show-- Just a completely ridiculous match. Butt-stuffing is great in comedy matches, but not in an "I want to kill you" match. This match was just really all over the place and like the rest of the feud, it never once could decide whether or not it wanted to be a serious gig or a comedy feud. Add in the fact that you couldn't take the McMahons seriously even once during the program, it just really handicapped this match for me. There are some fun spots and you get the usual gore-fest that is Hell in a Cell, but really, other than that it's just another brawl. **1/2 Match #6: Randy Orton v. Carlito-- I'd really like to see Carlito work like this more often. At this point in 06, Carlito was REALLY over and this was obviously done to cool him down a bit. He was in the dark match at Summerslam and believe me, as someone who was there, he got the second or third largest pop of the night and wasn't even on the official card. Orton was his usually solid self but Carlito worked with a little more of an edge to him then we're normally accustomed to. It's a TEENY bit short, but the ending sequence is definately a lot of fun. This is a solid match. **3/4 Match #7: WWE Championship-- TLC: Edge v. John Cena-- This was a ton better when I watched it through the second time, but really still isn't all that outstanding, at least not as great as their Summerslam match was or their Raw match in December later that year would be. Cena basically avoids making the stupid mistakes and doesn't find himself murdering himself. Edge on the other hand, wants to destroy Cena and is more caught up in that then trying to retain his title and pays for it. I know a lot of people complained about Cena not taking many bumps but that was sort of the point of the match. If you've watched TLC matches in the past, the team or individual that makes the least ammount of mistakes, wins. The teams that play into the craziness of it, lose. They keep with that here, with Edge taking all the chances and Cena just playing safe trying to figure out how to get his title back. This is a decent match, but nowhere, IMO, NEAR as good as the Summerslam match or their December match. Good, but not sensational. ***1/4 Overall, this is a fairly decent offering, although I think it's pretty darn overrated as a whole. The main event and the women's title matches are the only contests i'd deep 'good', although there are flashes of good-ness in other matches. This is a pretty easy-watching show though, and is a lot of fun. I'll give it a thumbs in the middle. You'll like it or hate it.

The Best of 2006,

Unforgiven 2006 was by far the best ppv of the year. It had very solid matches and even the women's match was great. Great PPV.
Intercontinental Champion Johnny Nitro w/ Melina Vs. Jeff Hardy - This was a great solid opening match up. These two really mesh well with each other and it formed into a surperb opening contest. Hardy really throws out his high flying & crazy Hardy offense and really sticks the mat game in the early going. Nitro would eventually start working on Hardy's leg. It had a cheap ending but it work well to continue the rivalry. 4/5 Kane Vs. Umaga w/ Estrada - This was also a good confrontation between these two heavyweights. There were some good brawling on the outside and some good action in the ring. Kane really shows intensity in this match. Estrada added some humor to the match which made it fun to watch also. Good big man match. 4/5 World Tag Team Champions The Spirit Squad Vs. The Highlanders - Definitely the lowest point of the ppv but it wasn't bad match, it was decent at the most. It's watchable but I don't understand how 5 male cheerleaders are the tag champs, that don't make sense to me. 3/5 Triple H & Shawn Michaels Vs. Shane McMahon, ECW Champion The Big Show, & Mr. McMahon (Hell In A Cell Match) - This match was just violent and brutal. It was also a great match to end the McMahon/DX fued. Great usage with the cell and the weapons that were used such as the sledgehammer & steel chairs. It had a vicious and brutal ending but thats what a Hell in a Cell match is all about, violence and brutality. Great ending to the rivalry. 5/5 WWE Women's Champion Lita Vs. Trish Stratus - This was Trish's farewell match and it was a great way for Trish to go out. The match was pretty good but I believe the ending is what made the match watchable the most. A good match to end a great career. 4/5 Carlito Vs. Randy Orton - A great one on one match up here. Some pretty good wrestling with some good high risk from Carlito. It got kind of personal and aggressive at some points of the match. Some good brawling as well. You even get some blood from Orton in this one. The RKO was hit so suddenly which was the highlight of the match to me. 4/5 WWE Champion Edge Vs. John Cena (Tables, Ladders, & Chairs Match) - This was one heck of a TLC Match & definitely Cena's & Edge's best match together in their long history together. Many great spots all throughout the match. Great match & match of the night. 5/5 Unforgiven was the best event of 2006. Highly recommended.
