First, if you see any reviews from prior to 2-12, disregard them. If you, like me, hate wasting your time reading rumors and slams on a product that hasn't even been released, ignore about 90% of the "reviews" on here. This game shipped on 2-12, so most of the country didn't get it 'til today.

First, the graphics are top-notch. The arena has a great amount of realism and depth to it. The intros and lighting/pyro are outright phenominal.

The characters themselves are well-sculpted, however they do lack a certain amount of fluidity. They tend to move like video game characters typically move, and don't convey a whole lot of natural body language. Most annoying is that the wrestlers tend to walk knees-first, as if they're trying to balance a quarter on the end of their... well, nevermind.

The mechanics of the game appear to be similar to No Mercy and WM2000. Let me emphasize "appear." If you go into the create-a-wrestler mode, you'll be able to select moves in an almost identical manner (grapple and then direction + A or B = whatever move). So far, in a regular match setting, it flat out doesn't work that way. It's more arcade-style "hammer the buttons and what you get, you get" gameplay.

I'm a bit dismayed, also, as I'm a hardcore No Mercy addict, yet I've only managed to win two matches thus far. One of which, I played Kane against Spike Dudley on "Easy" level. Any "wrestling" moves don't seem to be a factor here... it's mostly just punch-punch-punch-kick-try-to-grapple-but-get-reversed-punch-kick.

I attempted to set the black and clear buttons as my "finishing move" triggers, rather than try to hit two buttons at once (hitting two buttons at once being next to impossible on the huge X-Box controller). It doesn't work. Period. I think the only way to hit a finisher on this game is prayer and fasting.

Another annoyance is the "Action" button. The red "B" button is used for taunting, picking up objects, climbing, tagging your partner, getting in the ring, changing position, Irish Whipping your opponent, and pinning. This leads to stupid things like making a pin attempt when you're trying to climb the turnbuckle, or taunting when you're trying to pin.

The most important factor for me was the Create-A-Wrestler feature. I'd consider this one solid, but not great. It doesn't seem to have nearly as many clothing options as No Mercy, or even WM2000. Sure, there are many that can probably be unlocked during gameplay, but I honestly don't give a crap. Call me a freak, but I like to create my own characters the way I want them from the beginning. I don't want to "earn" a new t-shirt.

On that same subject, I found it unusual that a lot of costumes and appearance selections that were used for the pre-made characters aren't available in Create-A-Wrestler mode. For example, I was looking for a HHH-style shoulder-length wet hair option, and it's not there. I figured I'd settle for a Test/Al Snow long hair with partial pony-tail, and it's not there. Why do these need to be "unlocked?"

Likewise, I'm not going to go to the trouble of winning every Championship mode just to unlock the McMahon family and Fred Durst, no matter how badly I'd like to kick their asses.

A strange observation as an aside... Christian's "shower of sparks" is available as a create-a-wrestler option. But if you play as Christian, no shower of sparks when you enter. Strange.

There are some great features. You can pick signs for the crowd to hold up for your created wrestler, for example. It would've been nice for them to include a feature for customizing these signs, and for adding text to shirts (the only redeeming feature from WWF Attitude), but as yet, they're not there.

Can you upload your MP3s to use as intro music? Nope. Not unless it's a feature that's hidden somewhere that I haven't found yet.

I know this sounds overly-negative, but I haven't given up hope yet. I think that most of my gameplay problems stem from being so used to the nearly-flawless No Mercy/WM2000 game engine. I'm sure that gamers more into arcade-style games like Smackdown will take to it much better than I have.

One word of advice... don't even try to use the D-pad to control movement. Use the analog stick. Night and day difference there.

I'm giving this game three stars, primarily because it's gorgeous and has a lot of cutting-edge features. I'm hopeful that THQ will get on the ball, and design a new game using the graphics and features of RAW with the gameplay of No Mercy/WM2000. THAT would be a damn-near perfect wrestling game.

WWF RAW is the first wrestling game for X-Box. Many people are skeptical because of THQ giving out a lack of the games infomation. But don't worry because I went to XBOX.COM and THQ.COM and VIDEOGAMES.COM for infomation.

1)+35 Wrestlers(STONE COLD, THE ROCK, UNDERTAKER, TRIPLE H, KANE, BIG SHOW, DUDLEY BOYZ, HARDY BOYZ, SPIKE DUDLEY, CHRIS JERICHO, K-KWICK, and more.

2)Variety of Matches(KING OF THE RING, ROYAL RUMBLE, ONE ON ONE VARIATIONS, TAG TEAM, HANDICAP, TRIPLE THREAT, FATAL 4-WAY, ANYWHERE FALLS, HARDCORE, WWF CHAMPIONSHIP MODE, and more)

3)Assault you opponents on their to the ring

4)10 Backstage Areas(BREAK STUFF)

5)Wrestlers bleed plus there will be 1ST BLOOD matches

6)DOUBLE STYLE REPLAYS and IN-GAME CUTS

7)Grappling like WWF NO MERCY plus you can grab clothing

8)Create-a-wrestler mode like WWF NO MERCY only bigger and better

9)Highly Detailed ARENAS and WRESTLERS

10)TRUE ENTRANCES and MUSIC and TITANTRONS(ENTRANCES CAN LAST 1:30)

11)6 Wrestlers in the ring at a time

12)CROWDS (GO IN CROWD and THEY TURN while the wrestlers move plus some look at the titantron)

These are true facts for WWF RAW but what are the rumors? Check this out.

1)+40 matches(HELL IN A CELL, DUMPSTER, CAGE, INFERNO, LADDER, TLC, TABLE, CASKET, BURIED ALIVE, I-QUIT, and more matches)

2)Different backstage areas depending on the arena

3)SEASON MODE longer than WWF SMACKDOWN! JUST BRING IT

4)12 people in the ring at a time

5)Wrestlers talk and sweat

These are the top rumors. Now you know the true facts. WWF RAW is coming really shortly and if the rumors are false, WWF RAW may not live up to its type. If some of the rumors are true or evening all of them, WWF RAW could be better than WWF SMACKDOWN! JUST BRING IT for the Playstation 2 console. Remember ULTIMATE FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP for the Sega Dreamcast? Was it cool? Yes! Anchor (makers of UFC and the upcoming UFC:THROWDOWN\TAP OUT) teamed with THQ to make a wrestling experience that you have never seen before!

Its an only matter of time if this will be a top game for the X-BOX console.

2.0 out of 5 stars Only Buy if You REALLY Want a WWF Game for the XBox, February 20, 2002

I'm really glad I rented this game first. Graphically, it's stunning, starting with the perfectly recreated Raw open at the beginning. But graphics can only take you so far. There also are a ton of available wrestlers in this game, but most of them fall into the "he's still around?" category.

The problems start right at the main menu. There are only the most basic matches, like one on one, tag team, triple threat, and a six-man tag match. You can make the matches hardcore, but that's about the extent of what you can do in this game. No ladder matches, no steel cage or hell in a cell matches, no options. You can't even fight into the backstage area or crowd in a hardcore match. There is also no career mode, meaning no alliances built and no real direction for you to go. Instead, the game allows you to go after the individual belts, which require you to beat a certain number of superstars. After you win the belt, that's it. And you can't save your progress either, so be prepared to spend a solid hour and a half at least going for a belt.

I also have issues with the gameplay. It's a simple enough system and pretty easy to use, but there are a few quirks. The stamina meter is a great idea that's been very poorly done. Four punches and you're out of breath, opening you up to all sorts of attacks. I thought these were WWF superstars, not Homer Simpson. The computer also gives wrestlers like X-Pac the ability to reverse everything, including punches and kicks, and never let you get anything going. That can be a good or a bad thing, depending on how much of a challenge you want. But the most annoying thing has to be the crowd meter, which allows you to do your finishing move when it starts flashing. In order to get this, you have to vary your moves, which I don't have a problem with. What I do have a problem with is that the crowd turns on you bigtime if you use the same moves repeatedly. For example, you can inadvertently let your opponent do their special move if you throw one too many punches.

The Create-A-Wrestler system is good, but I've seen better. The developers also see some reason to only allow you to create 16 wrestlers. Also, if you expect to create a true superstar, that won't happen. You can't build your stats up enough.

Overall, this is an ok game that could have been much better if more time was spent on it and the developer didn't rush it out. It's worth a rent, but just barely.

Hype
A lot of it
Hype
It didn't live up to it........not even close

FACTS :

Wage war with top WWF Superstars modeled in amazing detail

The look and detail are ok, but wrestlers knees do not bend. LOL
really. But games are not looks alone.

Assault opponents before you get to the ring

Ya click the Y button and the game takes over, not really that big of a deal.

Watch the audience scatter as the action spills into the crowd

Not in this game, it was left out, and the "audience" is still very dull to see and have that "cardboard" cut out look.

Battle in more than 10 backstage areas

Nope again, Not in this game. Something else that is promoted but not true.

Look as a adult, I play games for fun, but to promote them on my websites or to other adult friends. This game has nothing to offer.

There are only a few modes, the game it's self is overly hard ( took me 4 hours to win a match on easy mode because no matter what you do the computer/Xbox kicks out most of the time )

If your going to buy this for a child, make sure the kid does not get bored fast, and if your buying this for yourself, RENT IT FIRST !

2 Stars

1. The creat-a-player is very good.

2. The over all "look" to the games is very well put together.

THIS IS A RENT FIRST BUY LATER GAME !

They dont seem to be able to make any decent wrestling games for X Box and this game is a prime example. The players move so slowly it has to be one of the most boring game available. The same goes for other wrestling games on XBox, like legends of wrestling. It is a real shame because I am a wrestling fan and would like a decent game, but none of the XBOX games can even compare to the games I got on my playstation 1.

2.0 out of 5 stars wwe raw, October 15, 2002
This review is from: WWF Raw - Xbox Game (Platinum Hits) (Video Game)
I must say having waited so long for this game and paying top dollar, and being misled by all the hype, WWE Raw on the Xbox is the worst wrestling game I have ever played.

First - the crowd - when your the Rock (the most popular wrestler) and your taking on William Regal (one of the most hated), the crowd is heared cheering on William Regal more than the people's champ - this would not happen at all - NO REALISM! (do these guys watch wrestling?)

Second - controlling the wrestler is not crisp or sharp it's like you are fighting the controller and your opponent - first you grapple (A) then you have to do a move this causes a lot of fustration as you are always pressing the A button a number of times until you grapple your opponment.
The game speed is very slow the wrestlers act like robots, the control system does not match up to Smackdown on PS2, you also do not know when it is time to do a finisher move, when you press the finisher combination button (Y)+(B) nine times out of ten you don't see the finisher move.

The wrestler's seem to have very few moves about four moves each and some moves are clearly given to the wrong wrestler (the Rock doing the figure four?), you also get little Spike Dudley throwing one punch to cause the 7-foot Big Show to go down immediatley - NO REALISM!

The developers should not have bothered putting in the create a wrestler-mode as this is the worst I have ever seen, it does not compare to WWF Attitude by Acclaim on the PSX or Samckdown KYR on the PSX - Raw gives you NO FREEDOM TO CREATE!

It's a shame that the most powerful games console on the planet does not to this day have a top notch wrestling game on it - this game does not do justice to the Xbox.
I bet Mr Playstation is having a good laugh because from what I've seen Smackdown SYM on PS2 looks awsome and more important has 90% better gameplay than RAW.

In WWE RAW there's No fighting in the crowd, No cage matches, No TLC, No Hell in a Cell, No I quit, No three stages of hell, No Royal Rumble, No Referee, No Blood, No season mode, No PPV, No commentators and last of all NO ACTION! - yet all these are on the PSX and PS2.

XBOX should realise that wrestling is very popular indeed and any wrestling game is going to be one of the flag ship games on any console, and Xbox has missed the chance to make a statement.

What can XBOX owners expect from RAW2?

XBOX needs to make sure that WWE RAW2 is the best wrestling game yet... if not people will stick to PS2.

5.0 out of 5 stars About as real as wrestling games get!, March 5, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: WWF Raw - Xbox Game (Platinum Hits) (Video Game)
I read a lot of bad reviews about this game, but when I finally got a chance to try it I was totally amazed and awestruck.

The incredible details for each character and all their moves, looks, nuances, and mannerisms is staggering. The developers obviously spent an incredible amount of time creating each wrestler's attributes, so that using each wrestler, and there are at least 30 of them, gives you a different experience each time. To go hand in hand with this, is the very detailed ring entrances and amazing graphics. Each wrestler moves exactly how the _REAL_ one would move. Chris Benoit chops like Benoit, Kane punches like Kane, and Kurt Angle dances around in a circle like the real thing, the detail is incredible.

Much as been said about the control system, and I must say as far as realism goes, this exactly how wrestling should be. Unlike other games, you don't mash your buttons like crazy so you can score your finisher 10 times in a row. You have to pace yourself so you don't run out of stamina, keep the crowd involved with a varied moveset, and timing your taunts with the match itself. Just like in real(!) wrestling, you can only use your finsiher when the crowd is on your side, your opponent is low on energy, and is woozy. It's take a lot of timing to kick in your finisher at the right point and finish your match.

What I found most fascinating about the gameplay is that you can pull off different moves depending on where you are in the ring or outside. For example, you have many different moves on the ring apron or turnbuckle than you would in the middle of the ring. (Imagine my surprise when I used Rikishi and had my opponent knocked down near the turnbuckle, and executed the Stink Face!)

It would have been nice to have commentary, and a ref. Story modes can be interesting, but are usually limited in their deployment (Smackdown3), and there is no story mode here. The developers have obviously spent the extra time in getting RAW to be as real as the real RAW tv show as possible, and I must say playing this game is as close you can get to the real thing.

Congrats to the developers, this is an amazing pure wrestling game obviously made for the wrestling 'purist' in mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Raw IS War., February 18, 2002
This review is from: WWF Raw - Xbox Game (Platinum Hits) (Video Game)
At first I thought that this game would be a little hard to get use to. But it turned out to be that it was so-so. It is a little hard to get out of a pin, and it is also a little hard to perform a finishing move. The taunts are excellent. And the entrances are beyond what I thought they would be. I have Royal Rumble for Sega Dreamcast and compared to this I don't know how Royal Rumble made it to the shops.
