1.0 out of 5 stars WWF Uncooked, May 2, 2002
This review is from: WWF Raw (Video Game)
When I think of this game, the first word that comes to my mind is pitiful. This is without a doubt the worst wrestling game I have ever played on a console, well the worst wrestling game I've played period. This is more putrid than any of those Acclaim or Tiger handheld wrestling games. I paid [money] for this expecting the color graphics and more powerful system to be able to produce a game that would outshine some decent, but lacking, Gameboy wrestling carts I had played. You'd be better off buying a small ring and action figures, it'd be a lot more fun.

The graphics are miniscule, not even as big as the wrestlers on Gameboy, Tiger or Acclaim handhelds. The colors are dark and ugly. The wrestlers are unrecognizable, this would look primitive compared to first generation games on the Atari 7800. The only passable graphics are the wrestler selection screens, which look ok. What little action there is remains limited pretty much to the small confines of the ring. The sounds, particularly the punches and kicks, and the music are very primitive, again a disappointment. There is only one real music theme that is used during the matches.

The gameplay is even worse, if that's possible. On the bright side, there are a few modes to choose from; singles, tag team and Survivor Series. There are also a few difficulty levels to choose from as well, but the game is frustratingly difficult even on the easiest level. Lock-up's are nearly impossible to win so you are pretty much reduced to punches and kicks to win the matches. Obviously it is no fun using just punches and kicks to win your matches, anyone in their right mind would enjoy using some special moves. Jamming on the buttons in a panicked frenzy is also not the idea of fun for most gamers.

To win a lockup you have to jam on the buttons repeatedly and it's tough to push the right combination of control functions and buttons to get any special moves you want, so when you do use one, it is random. Don't even waste your time attempting any finishers. Again, the matches are hard and sometimes in the Survivor Series, all of your wrestlers will be eliminated before you have even eliminated one of the opposing computer wrestlers. The other modes are equally hard to compete and have success in. To further add to the scrap heap, by the time this game came out, a few of the featured wrestlers were no longer with the company.

I can't do enough damage to this terrible game with just my words, you would have to play it to see how truly bad it is.

This is the only WWF Game Gear game I have played so I don't know if it is a recurring problem or not. Amazingly, to this day people are actually baffled as to why the Game Gear never took off. Games like this certainly didn't help the success of Sega's portable. With games like this how can you expect it to have any success? Too bad this couldn't have been closer to the SNES or Genesis versions of Raw. I know it's 8-bit, but still....

4.0 out of 5 stars WWF Raw on the Sega Game Gear, July 9, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: WWF Raw (Video Game)
Well this game is certainly the best wrestling game on the Game Gear, it's almost identical to the SNES version except of course less wrestlers and not quie as good graphics but thats a given considering Game Gear is 8 bit, it looks and plays better than the Game Boy version, and even some of the signiture moves look better in this one than in the SNES version, for example Yokozunas Banzai Drop, In the SNES you get your opponent down like alomost the center of the ring and go to either top corner and hit the R button and he climbs to the second turnbuckle and jumps halfway across the ring which looks really stupid cause he don't do it that way in real life. In the Game Gear version you hold start and hit 1 by their head and he drags them to the corner climbs the second rope and does the Banzai and stays on him for the 1-2-3 which how he does it in real life. Don't expect so much out of this game it's only 8 bits the sound isn't great, and the gameplay isn't much either it's just like the SNES version, but not as bad as the Genisis version. Overall: thst game is a good link to the past considering half the guys in the game don't wrestle on tv anymore, and it's definitly worth the buy for me cause I am a big wrestling fan and still play all the old games,(Pro Wrestling(very cool), WrestleMania Challenge, WrestleMania Steel Cage Challenge (which is fun on the game gear too) WWF Superstars(awesome) I just like old games) but if your looking for a fun game get WWF Raw on the game gear if you are looking for a really in depth wrestling game get a Game Boy Advance and buy Fire Pro Wrestling.

The Game WWF Raw is the best wrestling game for Sega Gennis. I'm played WWF Royal Rumble and i can tell you that this game is great. The gameplay is fast and brultly. Tag Team matches for shure. The amount of wrestlers in onbeliveable. The Undertaker is the greatest guy in the whole game. His tombstone piledriver knockes anybody out. In my conclusion this game is DA BOMB.
