5.0 out of 5 stars Royal Rumble 2002-Great start for the year
This was the best rumble I have seen no doubt, but there are a few minor problems with the DVD that I will get into after I review the matches.

1.WWF Tag Team Championship
Champions Tazz and Spike Dudly Vs. The Dudly Boyz
2.5 stars out of 5. Good opener a little dissapointing because of it's length but none the less good match with an exciting ending.

2.WWF...

3.0 out of 5 stars would have been a 1 but for the rumble match
theres a so so tag match with the dudleys vs taz and spike.this was when the wwe earned the nickname"the place where ecw legends go to die".since vince is only interested in destroying the big names and not putting them in for a real shot,a lot of them lose thier spirits.like taz who went from being the most feared man in ecw to a color commentater, little spike dudley...

This review is from: WWF: Royal Rumble 2002 (DVD)
This was the best rumble I have seen no doubt, but there are a few minor problems with the DVD that I will get into after I review the matches.

1.WWF Tag Team Championship
Champions Tazz and Spike Dudly Vs. The Dudly Boyz
2.5 stars out of 5. Good opener a little dissapointing because of it's length but none the less good match with an exciting ending.

2.WWF Intercontinental Championship
Champion Egde Vs. William Regal
2.5 stars out of 5 Another good match, these two have been fueding for quite some time now and it gets even better here. nice match with some high spots but a terrible ending resulting in William Regal using those damn brass knuckles to win the Intercontinental title.

3.WWF Woman's Championship
Champion Trish Vs. Jazz
2 stars out of 5 Like every women's title match at the royal rumble the dud match of the night, certainly a better bout then last years Chyna Vs.Ivory.

4.Street Fight
Vince Mcmahon Vs. Ric Flair
4 out of 5 stars great match but very slow and one sided, the funny thing about this match is that Ric Flair is suppose to be all mighty wrestler but Vince is in much better shape then him, Vince kicks Flair's ass all match untill the end where Flair finally mounts some offense and locks the figure four leg lock on and wins by submission.

5.WWF Undisputed Championship
Champion Chris Jericho Vs. The Rock
4.5 stars out of 5 Great Match with a some nice high spots and a poor ending. Jericho trys to Rock bottom the rock through an annonuce table but Rock counters and Rock bottoms Jericho through the opposite table. Very sweet lol. Jericho wins by slamming rocks head off of the exposed turn buckle and then rolling him up and putting his feet on the ropes for extra leverage.

6. Royal Rumble 2002 Winner gets a Undisputed title shot at Wrestlemania X-8
5 out of 5 stars Obviously the match we've been waiting for all night and It didn't dissapoint. In the Rumble Goldust, Val Venis, Godfather, and MR. Perfect, all make a return to action. the contest starts off with Rikishi and Goldust, There ar ea few people in the ring when the Undertaker comes out and absolutly destroys the competition, When Taker is all alone Maven comes out, to get picked apart but the Hardyz distract Taker and Maven drop kicks Taker over the top rope! Maven eliminates The Undertaker lol. Undertaker can't believe it and smacks Maven in the head with a chair and continues to beat him....the game comes out and it gets interesting, the game and Austin beat[s] ...out of each other. eventually Austin gets eliminated by Angle and Mr. Perfect "big bummer" when it is down to HHH and Angle, angle thinks he won but triple H's feet didn't touch the floor so HHH comes back in and clotheslines Angle over the top to win, Let the Game begin...Awesome Rumble best ever by far.

DVD Extras:Exclusive Interviews with Goldust, Venis, Godfather, and Mr. Perfect after the Rumble.Spike and Tazz review there match.
Kurt Angle and Stone Cold promos.
And Triple H's return to the WWF in Madison Square Garden

Now a few weird minor problems with Royal Rumble 2002
when they released it on DVD they totally took out the theme song ...and put something made up over it, This[is bad]cuz it totally ruins the Royal Rumble Promo when Austin keeps saying What? where the song says the say I'm cocky and I say What?....also they took edges new theme changed that back, Undertakers Theme changed that to soemthing I've never heard, and took RVDs theme and switched that to the original. Whats going on???

Overall Great PPV great start for 2002 hope my review helped you decide wheather to buy this DVD or not.

5.0 out of 5 stars All in all another great WWF PPV., January 22, 2002
This review is from: WWF: Royal Rumble 2002 (DVD)
ok here is a spoiler free review just to refresh your memory and help you remember if you want to get Rumble 2002:

Opening match, Tazz and Spike defend the tag titles against Dvon and Bubba, A good match although a little short in my opinion.
Next up Edge takes on William regal with his IC title on the line, for Regals standards this match was ok.
Trish Stratus (oh yeah) vs Jazz with Jackie as Ref... a pretty good match... but could have been better.
Vince Mcmahon vs Ric Flair: great street fight considering the age of both the men.
Y2J vs The Rock for the unified world title, A great match, Strong offence from both men will definetly keep your interest.
And of course the main event the royal rumble... 30 men and in my opinion one of the best Rumble matches of all time... here is the list of competitors in alphabetical order:
Al Snow Albert Big Show Billy Booker T Big Bossman Bradshaw Christian Chuck Dallas Page Faarooq Godfather Goldust Jeff Hardy Kane Kurt Angle Lance Storm Matt Hardy Maven Mr. Perfect Perry Saturn Rikishi Rob Van Dam Scotty Too Hotty Steve Austin Test The Hurricane Triple H Undertaker Val Venis.

With the extra features the WWF always includes in Royal Rumble dvd's this one will no doubt be an essential for any true fans collection!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good PPV, but the Rumble match is too predictable, May 14, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: WWF: Royal Rumble 2002 (DVD)
Royal Rumble 2002 took place from the Phillips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. This was a good PPV to kick off the new year. I will rank the matches for you on a star (*) system. They are all based out of five stars.

1. SPIKE & TAZZ (VS) DUDLEY'S (TAG TITLE)
This was a good match to kick off the PPV. Good action it was just a little too short. Tazz and Spike retain the titles as Tazz gets D-Von to tap to the Tazzmission. [3 *'s]P>2. WILLIAM REGAL (VS) EDGE (INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE)
This fued continued way too long. It went on for three months. This match was slow and boring. The only good spot was when Edge gave Regal a DDT on the outside apron. Regal wins the title after he hits Edge with the Brass Knuckles. *1/2

3. TRISH STRATUS (VS) JAZZ (WOMEN'S TITLE)
I hate most women's matches. This was no different. Trish retains the title with a Stratusfaction. *

4. RIC FLAIR (VS) VINCE McMAHON (STREET FIGHT)
This match was about what was expected between these two. There was a lot of brawling and a lot of blood. There is a funny spot when Vince takes Flair's daughter's camera and takes a picture of himself and the bloodied Flair. Flair wins when Vince taps to the Figure Four Leglock. [3*'s]

5. CHRIS JERICHO (VS) THE ROCK (UNDISPUTED TITLE)
This is a very underrated match. Not a lot is heard about this match. It was very entertaining and fast paced. The crowd was really into this match. A lot of close falls occured in this match. The best spot of the match is when The Rock Rock Bottoms Y2J from one announce table to the next. Jericho retains the title with the help of Lance Storm, Christian, Nick Patrick, and the top turnbuckle. [4 1/2 *'s]

6. ROYAL RUMBLE MATCH
The Rumle match was pretty decent, but it is too predictable. Goldust, Val Venis, The Godfather, and Mr. Perfect returned to the WWE in this match. There were good spots in this match including Maven elimintating the Undertaker, which was preceeded by the Undertaker beating Maven all over the arena and finally putting his head through a glass popcorn machine. The confrontation between Steve Austin and Triple H was very intense. One of the surprises was Mr. Perfect making it into the final four. Triple H wins by clotheslining Kurt Angle over the top rope. With this win, Triple H get an automatic spot in the main event at Wrestlemania X8 for the Undisputed Title. Unfortunately, everyone knew this would happen. [4 *'s]

The extra feature are nothing to get too excited about except for the return of Triple H on RAW.

Overall, this was a great PPV. Two good matches, one great match, and a good Rumble match. The Rock & Y2J match was the best of the night.

I recommend purchasing this PPV. It will be a good addition to your collection. Buy for The Rock (vs) Y2J and for the Rumble match.

Spike & Tazz v. Dudley Boyz World Tag Titles
This match was very good. Spike & Tazz work well together. How do the Dudleyz not win. Spike & Tazz retain.****

William Regal v. Edge IC Title
This match was very entertaining. Edge beats the heck out of Regal then Regal uses knucks to retain.***3/4

Trish Stratus v. Jazz Women's Title
This match was very slow and boring. It can't make it horrible. Trish retains.**

Ric Flair v. Vince McMahon Street Fight
This match was completely awesome. Flair & Vince have great chemistry. Flair beats Vince with the Figure Four.*****

Chris Jericho v. The Rock World Title
This was another good match. Y2J continues to ROCK my world. He wins with the help of Christian & Storm. The Un-Americans start to form. Y2J retains.****

Royal Rumble Match
This match was predictable but then it became unpredictable. HHH returns to win the Rumble when he throws Angle over.****1/2

4.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Rumble Card, December 4, 2003
By
This review is from: WWF: Royal Rumble 2002 (DVD)
With the exception of the Royal Rumble from 1992 (where Ric Flair won the event and the WWF title along with it), this is probably my favorite version of the event! Let's get to it:

Spike Dudley/TAZZ VS. The Dudley Boyz w/Stacy Kiebler (WWF/WWE Tag Team Championship) - Not a great bout but it doesn't suck either! Some very hard hitting spots that are very ECWsqe!

Edge Vs. William Regal (WWF/WWE I-C Title Match) - Probably the only stinker on the card. Edge and Regal are actually very good workers but this one wasn't as good their other encounters.

Trish Stratus Vs. Jazz (WWF/WWE Women's Title Match) - Surprisingly good match. Jazz is the superior wrestler and worker but I have to give Trish a lot of credit in that she does try her best in the ring! Also, having Jackie in there as the special ref added some comedy to the bout.

"Nature Boy" Ric Flair Vs. Vince McMahon (Streetfight Match) - This was also another surprise. McMahon and Flair worked very well together!

Chris Jericho Vs. The Rock (WWF/WWE Undisputed Championship Match) - I have never seen their first encounter from No Mercy 2001 but if its anything like this match, then I am sure I'd love it! These two put on a great match! Probably the best between the two!

The Royal Rumble Match - Was very well paced and probably the strongest line up since The Royal Rumble 1992! While it was pretty obvious that HHH was going to win, it at least gave us some great action leading up to that point. I find it ironic since the best Royal Rumble took place in 1992, that we get another great one 10 years later!

This is a good DVD and a good card. Get it or at least rent it!

4.0 out of 5 stars January 2002 Phillilps Arena Atlanta, Georgia, September 2, 2004
This review is from: WWF: Royal Rumble 2002 (DVD)
Royal Rumble 2002 was a very good PPV with some action packed undercard matches and one of the most star studded Rumble matches in years.

1. Tazz & Spike Dudley vs. Dudley boys (WWF Tag Team Championship)
Good way to kick off the show. This was a ctually a pretty good tag match, just a little bit too short. (8/10)

2. Trish Stratus vs. Jazz (Women's Championship w/Jacqueline as Special Guest Referee)
Not a bad woman's match, but who really cares. (6/10)

3. Edge vs. William Regal (Intercontinental)
These two had a good fued, but the matches were just never that good. Again, okay match, but nothing too special. (7/10)

4. Vince McMahon vs. Ric Flair (Street Fight)
Good performance put on by these two old timers. It is about what you would expect from these two. Of course they both bleed pretty good. There is a funny spot were Vince makes Flair's daughter take a picture of Vince and Ric with her camera. (8/10)

5. The Rock vs. Chris Jericho (Undisputed Title)
This has to be one of the most underrated matches of the year. You never hear much about this match. It is action packed from beginning to end. There are many close falls and a great announce table to announce table bump. Surprise appearance by Christian adn Lance Storm. Ggreat match. (9/10)

6. Royal Rumble Match (Wineer Gets A Shot at Undisputed Title at Wrestlemania 18)
This Rumble match featured one of the best fields in years. Some of the highlights include Maven eliminating The Undertaker and Taker proceeding to destroy Maven all over the arena, the Triple H and Austin stare down, the return of Goldust, Val Venis, The Godfather, Mr. Perfect, and Perfect being one of the final four participants left in the ring. Good ending, but a little too predictable. (9/10)

Overall the PPV was pretty good. It has a great championship match and Rumble match. It would be a good addition to your DVD collection.

Overall Rating: 8.5/10

4.0 out of 5 stars This was awsome!, August 23, 2004
By
the one and only "david" (I live south of Parts Unknown) - See all my reviews
This review is from: WWF: Royal Rumble 2002 (DVD)
Royal Rumble 2002 was not as good as 2001 or 2000, but it is without a doubt the second best one out of the past three years. The Undisputed title match was awsome when Jericho put his title on the line against the rock and the rumble match really shined in some places.

The Dudley Boyz vs. Tazz and Spike: Pretty good opener, but I was expecting a lot more. Tazz and Spike really didn't make a good tag team in my opinion, but they had to be in a match somewhere, so why not make them a tag team. A good opener, but not the best. 7.5/10

Jazz vs. Trish Stratus: Not as good as the women's matches nowadays, and Jazz vs. Trish is just a match that I have seen too much of, don't watch this. 6/10

Edge vs. William Regal: Someone should have killed this rivalry before it even started. I was bored out of my mind in this one. These two are talented in their own ways, but just can't put on a good show together. Another boring match! 7/10

Ric Flair vs. Mr. McMahon: Good God, what did I do to make the wwe mad enough at me to make this match for me to waste my money on? Only one good moment in this match, when McMahon brought Flair to his kids at ringside and told his daughter to take a picture of Flair when he was bleeding. 6/10

Chris Jericho vs. The Rock: Fiiiinally! The Rock has come back to save another ppv! This is a spectacular match! Jericho and the Rock really work well together. The match had near falls, exciting maneuvers, and a great table moment when the Rock Rock Bottomed Jericho throught the ENGLISH announce table instead of the SPANISH announce table! Imagine that, the Spanish announce table survives a title match! A great match. 10/10

Royal Rumble: Excellent Royal Rumble, lots of big names like Angle, Austin, HHH, Undertaker, Mr. Perfect, and Kane. When Maven eliminated the Undertaker the Undertaker's face was hilarious! The chairshot that the Dead Man gave Maven after that was also eye-popping. When Austin and HHH were fighting and the hurricane came out and tried to chokeslam both of them was funny also. Stone Cold looked at HHH and said, "are you F#$%ing kidding me?" They then both eliminate Hurricane. I was dissapointed when Austin was eliminated, and when Triple H is alone with Angle, you could tell who was going to win. Some other great moments that I won't ruin. 10/10

The last two matches that I talked about saved this ppv. Either than them the others are either bad, or okay everyonce in a while. Still, you should buy this ppv just for the Jericho, Rock match and the rumble.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good PPV as a whole, but the Rumble match is too predictable, May 13, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: WWF: Royal Rumble 2002 (DVD)
WWE Royal Rumble 2002 was held at the Phillips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Overall it was a pretty decent PPV. I would have given the PPV a rating of 3.5, but that wasn't one of the choices. Here is a list of the matches. I ranked them on a star (*). The matches are based on a scale of one to five stars.

1. SPIKE DUDLEY & TAZZ (VS) DUDLEY BOYS (TAG TEAM TITLE)
This was a good opening match, although it could have been a little longer. The crowd was actually really into this match. Spike & Tazz retains the title when Tazz gets D-Von to tap to the Tazzmission. ***

2. WILLIAM REGAL (VS) EDGE (INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE)
This match was really boring. This fued carried on way to long. Only good spot was when Edge gave a DDT to Regal on the outside apron. Regal wins with a Brass Knuckle punch. **

3. TRISH STRATUS (VS) JAZZ (WOMEN'S TITLE)
I am not a fan of most women's match. This match was boring. Trish retains the title with a Stratusfaction. *

4. RIC FLAIR (VS) VINCE McMAHON (STREET FIGHT)
This was a decent match. It is about what was expected between these two. One good spot was when Vince took Flair's daughter's camera and took a picture of the bloodied Flair. Flair wins when Vince taps to the Figure-Four Leglock.
***1/2

5. CHRIS JERICHO (VS) THE ROCK (UNDISPUTED TITLE)
This was a great match. There was a not a lot of talk about this match afterwards. It is very underated. The crowd was really into this match. It had a great excitement and action. There were many close falls. The Rock Rock bottom's Y2J from one announce table to the next. Y2J retains the title with help from Lance Storm, Christian, Nick Patrick, and an exposed top turnbuckle. ****

6. ROYAL RUMBLE MATCH
Good match. The ending was a little to predictable because of Triple H's return. One of the highlights was Maven elimintating the Undertaker, which was preceeded by the Undertaker beating Maven all over the building, ending with Maven getting his head slammed through a glass popcorn machine. The Stone Cold and Triple H staredown was very intense. Triple H wins by clotheslining Kurt Angle over the top rope. Triple H receives an automatic shot at the Undisputed Title in the main event at Wrestlemania X8. ***1/2

EXTRA'S
The extra's are not that great except for Triple H's return on RAW in Madison Square Garden.

Overall, this was a pretty good PPV. Two good matches, one great match, and a good Rumble match. My favorite match was the Y2J and Rock match. I recommend buying this DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Rumbles ever!, September 1, 2002
By
David Odom (Rocktown, GA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: WWF: Royal Rumble 2002 (DVD)
I was actually there at the Philips Arena that night, and it was the absolute best Rumble in recent memory.

1. Tag Team titles: The Dudleyz vs Tazz and Spike- 3/5
A great Tag Team bout with the winners of this match really deserving it.

2. Intercontinental title: Edge vs William Regal- 2/5
This match was good, but the winner doesn't deserve the title. He loses it 2 months from where he won it though.

3. Women's title: Jazz vs Trish (Jackie was referee)- 3/5
This may have been one of the best Women's title matches I've ever seen. They finally have good women matches.

4. Street Fight: Vince McMahon vs Ric Flair- 5/5
This match is one of the two best matches of the night. The night after the event, Mr. McMahon said he was gonna bring back the nWo (watch No Way Out).

5. Undisputed title: The Rock vs Chris Jericho- 4/5
This was an impressive match, without a doubt. This was the best out of all their matches.

6. Royal Rumble Match- 5/5
The second best match of the night. This was definitely one of the biggest Rumbles I've seen in a while with the last two men being Triple H and Kurt Angle. You'll have to watch to find out the outcome.
