This is not just some wrestling game. This game includes all the taunts and moves that WWF brings in their shows. With over 36 superstars, this game offers what every other wrestling game has failed at. The graphics let you see the tiniest details in their faces, and the sounds are like being in the front row. You can have a special referee that will count slower or faster depending if they like or hate you. The storyline mode will be enough for anyone hardcore fan and others. Superstars will walk up to you behind stage and help or stop your goal at the WWF championship. Once you get it though, you may have your conceded allies turn on you. The storyline can go forever and should change enough to keep everyone on there couch for many hours.

Smackdown is great down to the last detail. It has the best wrestlers. What i thought was the greatest thing of all was the graphics. They are out of this world. The story mode is outstanding. The story changes all the time. You can walk around backstage and make friends or enemies with other wrestlers. You can only do your finisher if you are really beating him up.You can also be a special guest referee at wrestlemania or even at RAW.For any kind of match either the hardcore championship down to the wwf championship. You can do slow count or fast count for pin.Or a computer referee can olso do slow count or fast count for you depending on whether he lokes you are not. bye

This has got to be the best game the WWF has ever come up with. There will be 6 titles including:European, Hardcore, Womens, Intercontinental, Tag Team, and the WWF Championship. You can have your best friend be the Special Guest Ref too. With belts, sgr's, backstage dialog, alliances, and a whole lot of good ol' WWF action, this game would be perfect if not for the loss of Tazz in the game. So invite your friends over and lay the SMACK down!

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Game, April 10, 2000

When you think of wrestling video games, you think of slow-moving boring matches that require you to hit 4 or 5 buttons to pull off a bodyslam(AKA WWF Attitude). Well, now think of WWF Smackdown, a fast-paced game with easy controls. The first thing wrestling fans look at when they buy a game is if it has good entrances. Well, this has the real music and the real videos(unlike WWF WRESTLEMANIA 2000). Plus, the graphics are great, focusing in even on camera flashes and facial expressions as someone gets punched. As I mentioned, the sound is great featuring the real WWF entrance songs and great songs during the match. The control is supereasy, letting anyone pick up a controller and play. There are so many types of matches, it's hard to pick which one to participate in. The only ones absent are table and ladder matches, which would have been great. This game really gets your adrenaline pumping, as sometimes I find myself swearing at the TV after being beat up. The create-a-superstar isn't as in depth as others in the looks part, but there are a vast array of moves to choose from once you build up all of your skill levels to 5. This is a fun and challenging single or multiplayer game. If you like wrestling and you own a PSX, get this game.

The real reason to get this game is for the Falls Anywhere and Hardcore Matches. Backstages seem to go on forever. Boiler rooms, kitchens, parking areas . . . I halfway expected to be able to whip Big Show out onto the New Jersey Turnpike and fight on the highway! This game is VERY FUN to play, even for beginners to wrestling video games. The "Create-A-Wrestler" feature is great, allowing you to rename a finishing move as anything you want. I recommend this game highly for any PS gamer interested in fun, addictive gameplay. This ain't no JABRONI'S game. This is the PEOPLE'S GAME!

I would just like to say that all these people who are saying that the story lines are dumb, pointless and stupid. Let me tell you that they are far from that! I have been playing the kick butt season mode as the Undertaker and i have every belt there is, also i have been playing the season mode for 29 years ! I have seen so many cool story lines. The first few years they are a bit dumb, but when you play for a long time they get so kick butt! i have seen blood baths from Gangrel, and i have seen ubductions from the Undertaker ! This game although dosnet have the wrestlers talking, its not that bad ! You will learn quickly to pass that and have it not even bother you ! This game is definetly worth it... if you buy this game you will not be sorry. You can pull weapons out from under the ring, and beat the hell out of people, they have special referees, and king of the ring, and Summerslam. I love this game, and i believe you would too. Dont believe any of the other reviews that say bad things ... you can overlook the small things that are wrong (not many things wrong at all) I love this game (as i think i already said) well i am going to leave you with something ... the wwf and thq and the rest who worked on this game couldn't of put more creativity into this. : )

5.0 out of 5 stars This is why I bought a Playstation in the first place, September 28, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: WWF Smackdown! (Video Game)
I love WWF Smackdown!, and I've got the calluses on my thumbs to prove it. I hear that WWE Smackdown! 2: Know Your Role is even better, but this first Smackdown! title puts every other wrestling game I have ever played to shame. There is room for improvement, but there's little not to love about the wrestling action unleashed from this Playstation CD. You have to start off with the wrestlers; you get all of the big names from WWF (now WWE) at the time, and most of them look great. Chyna's animated character looks atrocious, with a tiny head set atop a mountain of muscles, but I have few other complaints in this department. I am a fan of The Rock, and this game has really captured the style and look of my favorite wrestler, all the way down to the People's Eyebrow. The moves also look fantastic and true to form, and the People's Elbow is a triumph of showmanship and fun. Every wrestler has his/her big finishing move recreated in impressive detail, but even the little moves are impressive. From the simple eye gouge to the dropkick or stomp or leg lock or bodyslam, the little details are all there to enjoy. When you Irish whip your opponent into the turnbuckle, he goes bouncing off, staggers, and falls just like the guys do in real life. Knock a guy to his rear end in the turnbuckle, and you can stand on his throat using the ropes for leverage; it's the little things like this that make this game so fantastic. The controls are a little strange at first, but they quickly become second nature, and the best part about this aspect of the game is the diversity of moves you are able to execute. When your opponent is lying in the ring, you can choose to try and cripple the guy's leg or get him in a semi-chokehold, with your action depending to some degree upon the angle in which you approach. Then, when you've beaten your opponent to a pulp and the timing is right, you need only press one button (as opposed to an awkward combination of buttons and joystick moves) in order to execute your patented finishing move; of course, you'll want to do a little taunting first just to rub it in. There are no pauses or hiccups at all in the action, I should note.

The variety of matches is outstanding. You can choose between normal matches, tag team matches, handicap matches pitting one against two, Battle Royals, Royal Rumbles, King of the Ring matches, hardcore matches where chairs, belts, and microphones are in easy rich and are encouraged for use in the ring, Anywhere Fall matches, cage matches, survival matches, and I Quit matches (which are especially fun). Not only that, you can have or even control special referees for any match. I love being a ref because you get to beat the heck out of either or both of the actual wrestlers, and you can control the outcome of the match by choosing the speed at which your three-count is made. If all this isn't enough, there are a number of backstage fighting areas you can access (although the fact that you have to Irish whip your opponent into the backstage area makes this a little clumsier to pull off than it need be).

But wait, there's more. Not only does each wrestler have his own special introduction as he makes his/her way to the ring, the game features clips from backstage between some matches; this sounds pretty cool, but these clips soon become boring and frivolous. You can choose to wrestle in Season Mode, taking your wrestler through each month on his/her own quest for the belt while watching or skipping over matches you don't actually participate in. You also have the ability to create your very own wrestler and let him wreak some havoc in the big leagues, which is an option a lot of players should love. Perhaps the best option of all, though, is the ability to set up the matches of your choice in Pay-Per-View events. The only real complaint I have about this game is the fact that there is no option for match commentary. I know that commentary can quickly become tiresome and repetitive, but it does make for a more realistic wrestling environment. Other than this one missing option, though, WWF Smackdown! pretty much has it all, and I will be laying the smacketh down for some time to come, I can assure you.

This game blows all other wrestling games out of the water. I have played and owned Warzone, Attitude, WrestleMania 20000, etc, but this game is 10 times better. The graphics are excellent and the move list is longer. Moves are easy to pull off and to throw your favorite wrestlers finnisher all you have to do is press L1. The story themes are great and the entrance movie is better than a simple walking down to the ring. The only beef is that I wish there were more wrestlers like Rikishi, but there are 36 wrestlers in all. All in all if you are a psx or wrestling fan you should log on to Amazon and order it today!
