4.0 out of 5 stars Decent WWE DVD August 10, 2002
By Mr. JKW
Format:DVD
"Stone Cold Steve Austin What" chronicles Steve Austin's 2001 WWF year through a combined mix of interviews and video footage. In addition to chronicling his year 2001, the video also takes a quick look back at his time in the old WCW. Overall, while the feature can be criticized for its brevity (with a runtime of approximately an hour) it is a decent review of his year 2001.
THE FEATURE:
The feature reviews the following:

1 - His feud with Triple H during the beginning of 2001, in particular their Match of the Year at No Way Out 2001
2 - His feud with the Rock for the WWF title
3 - His heel turn
4 - His quick feud with Chris Benoit
5 - His lead role in the ill-fated Invasion angle
6 - His awesome feud with Kurt Angle
7 - A handful of the comedy sketches he did on WWF TV in 2001 with Vince McMahon and Kurt Angle
8 - His appearance on MadTV
9 - A quick look at his WCW career as "Stunning Steve" with interviews by Ric Flair and Arn Anderson and footage of Ricky Steamboat and Brian Pillman.
10 - How he came up with his "WHAT???" catchphrase (you'll be surprised how it developed).
THE DVD FEATURES:
WWE is starting to put out better extras on their DVDs. It's good to see they are putting SOME use to the WCW footage they acquired in the buyout. Here's the rundown of the extras on this DVD:
1. "Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Triple H" No Way Out 2001. THE Match of the Year of 2001. 2 out of 3 Falls Match (Regular, Street Fight, Steel Cage). Talk about intensity and athleticism. 5 stars.
2. Coronation speech from King of the Ring 1996. Witness the birth of "Austin 3:16."
3. "Stunning" Steve Austin vs. Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, Bash at the Beach 1994. Austin's favorite match against his favorite worker.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stone Cold's Road Back To The Top April 11, 2011
Format:VHS Tape
This is the fourth volume in the Stone Cold series titled after his popular catchphrase at that time (and still done today a decade later) in "What?" Now this takes place two years after the previous volume ended with so much happening to both Austin & WWE during that time period such as WWE buying WCW making their footage available to use for the first time along with Austin being out for a year with neck surgery & recovery so this is a different look at Austin than the previous videos have shown. Throughout this presentation, you'll hear from Austin & his peers like Arn Anderson, Ric Flair, Harvey Whippleman, his then-wife Debra, Kurt Angle, & Earl Hebner.

The documentary begins with Austin talking about his match at WrestleMania X-7 against The Rock, his heel turn with Vince, and joining with Triple H before going into his thoughts on Triple H & their match the previous month at No Way Out. Austin then goes into details about how he was trying his best to be a hated villain with examples being shown of him assaulting Jim Ross in his hometown, being extremely violent with chairs, and how he felt he was at his peek wrestling Chris Benoit in his hometown. Austin's early years were discussed next talking about who he grew up watching, getting into WCW, what was different from his style then compared to now, and who he watched & learned while others were commenting on what WCW did wrong with Austin. After talking about his appearance on MadTV, Austin went into details about trying to expand his character with his comedy bits such as his bad singing, interactions with Vince & Kurt Angle, and the origin of his "What?" catchphrase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stone Cold Steve Austin What June 17, 2009
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This is a very good dvd for any fan of sports entertainment. It explains how the 'What?!' catchphrase originated. The Stone Cold/Attitude Era was probably the best time, storyline wise, of professional wrestling. I highly recommend this to all fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS AN AWESOME DVD....WHAT? April 5, 2007
Format:DVD
THIS DVD DOES WELL IN EXPLAINING HOW IMPORTANT AUSTIN WAS IN MAKING WWE SO SUCCESSFUL. THIS FOCUSES ALOT ON AUSTIN'S 2001 MATCHES WITH KURT ANGLE AND ALSO INCLUDES NEVER BEFORE SEEN FOOTAGE. AND OF COURSE IT INCLUDES THE STORY OF HOW THE WHAT THING ALL STARTED. THE FACT THAT FANS STILL CHANT WHAT TOWARD HEELS ( PARTICULARY VINCE), IS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF THE KIND OF INFLUENCE AUSTIN HAD AND CONTINUES TO HAVE ON SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT. I LOVE TO WATCH THIS DVD OVER AND OVER FOR THE MOMENTS AND TO BE REMINDED OF THE PASSION AND DEDICATION THIS GREAT COMPETITOR HAD FOR THE BUSINESS. WHETHER YOU ARE A RATTLESNAKE FAN OR NOT, THIS IS A MUST HAVE. BUY IT! CAUSE STONE COLD SAID SO! WHAT?
