It's official - 2001 is simply one of the best years in WWF/WWE history, and UNFORGIVEN is another reason as to why. This is a PPV card that is a lot stronger than it looks!

1) Elimination Match - WWF Tag Team Championships

The Hardy Boyz v. The Hurricane (WWF European champion) & Lance Storm

v. Big Show & Spike Dudley v. The Dudley Boyz (WWF Tag Team champions)

---This was an exciting Elimination contest with neat spots, good wrestling, and a wild Pennsylvania crowd. The Dudleyz and The Hardyz always put on good matches, and the other two teams were in fine form. A perfect example of how the "Invasion" angle brought new talent and energy to the WWF.

"8.0 / 10"

_______________________________________________

2) Raven v. Perry Saturn

---The only non-title match on the card featured Saturn looking for "Moppy", with Raven as the culprit. Confused? Don't worry, you'll understand from the PPV. The crowd hated this match, but I think Saturn and Raven worked really hard considering this storyline had no respect from anybody (I thought it was pretty funny). Much better than the trainwreck everyone makes it out to be.

"5.0 / 10"

_______________________________________________

3) WWF Intercontinental Championship

Christian v. Edge (champion)

---In their first-ever one-on-one bout (to my knowledge), both men were still WWF wrestlers at the time, which was unusual for the "Invasion" PPVs. This was yet another solid contest with plenty of near-falls and unique exchanges. Also noteworthy is that both Christian and Edge were as good in singles competition as they were tag team wrestlers. One of the few tag team breakups that helped both superstars. The Ladder Match that took place a month later is the one everybody remembers (rightfully so), but this is an incredible match worth checking out.

"8.0 / 10"

_______________________________________________

4) WCW Tag Team Championships

Kronik v. The Undertaker & Kane (champions)

---Now for the real stinker: Bryan Adams and Bryan Clark made their first and last WWF match together as they challenged the WCW Tag Team champs (who were actually WWF talent). Taker and Kane worked so hard to make Adams and Clark look good, but Kronik no-sold just about everything thrown at them. The match was kept to a nice pace, but this match was so badly performed that you'll just stare in disbelief. I still recommend the match because it's so unbelievably terrible that it's good for a laugh.

"2.0 / 10" (but still worth seeing for some gut-busting laughs!)

_______________________________________________

5) WWF Hardcore Championship

Chris Jericho v. Rob Van Dam (champion)

---Now for some genuinely good news: this is my personal favorite Match from 2001! What a fantastic match! Mat wrestling skirmishes, ladders, chairs, and plenty of high-spots. One of the best matches that Y2J and RVD have put on in their careers! If you've seen RVD's ONE OF A KIND 2-disc set, than you've witnessed three incredible WWE matches. Well guess what? I still think this one is better than all of them. I can't wait to pop in my DVD again, just to see this!

"9.5 / 10"

_______________________________________________

6) 2-on-1 Handicap Match - WCW Championship

Shane McMahon (WCW Owner) & Booker T v. The Rock (champion)

---I didn't expect much out of this one, but it was a much better Handicap Match than I expected. What happened in this match was fairly 'believeable' - Shane and Booker kept an advantage, but The Rock kept the fight going. Plus, there was a nice tease with Shane possibly walking out with the belt instead of the crazed Booker T. With some Alliance and WWF interference thrown in, this was a pleasant surprise. It still holds up after a couple viewings. If you liked the SUMMERSLAM main event between Booker & Rock, then I think you'll enjoy this just as much.

"7.0 / 10"

_______________________________________________

7) WCW United States Championship

Rhyno v. Tajiri (champion)

---Why do so many WWF superstars have WCW belts, and vice versa? Never mind. This match was very good, but way too short. I don't remember how this one got booked, and the PPV doesn't do a good job of reminding me. If given even as much as 5 more minutes, this random contest would've become even better.

"6.0 / 10"

_______________________________________________

8) WWF Championship

Kurt Angle v. 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin (champion)

---In the main event, hometown hero Kurt Angle got another crack at Austin's WWF Championship, since Angle got screwed out of the title at SUMMERSLAM 2001. Once again, they both put on a solid match. Good psychology, plus a nice touch to have Angle's family at ringside (though they should never do interviews again). In my opinion, the other Angle-Austin encounters from 2001 were much better than this one. Angle's never-say-due performance from SUMMERSLAM was breathtaking, but this time, it felt more obligatory. But I'm nitpicking -- Angle and Austin didn't disappoint me. Whether you love it or just like it, this main event will be worth your time and money.

"7.0 / 10"

_______________________________________________

There are no extras on this DVD, which is very unfortunate because this was my favorite PPV of 2001. But the card on UNFORGIVEN 2001 is more than worth the purchase! Considering most sellers are only asking about 10 bucks for this DVD, I definitely recommend it to even the most casual wrestling fan - there's something for everybody!

4.0 out of 5 stars Unforgiven 2001 is a 4 star ppv, June 11, 2006
This review is from: WWF: Unforgiven 2001 (DVD)
80-76%-perfect

75-71%-awsome

70-66%-good

65-61%-poor

60-56%-awful

1. Big Show and spike dudley vs. The hardys vs. lance staorm and the hurriacan vs. The dudleys 4 courners elemination match for the wwe tag team titles- This was a great way to kick off the ppv. The first 5 minutes or so the match was your normal tag match. After that the match picked up very quick and 2 teams were elemintated in the next 2 minutes. Came down to the hardys and dudleys and again they put on a good match with alot of near falls and excitment. Winners and still wwe tag team champs the dudleys. Match rating 7.5/10.

2. Parry Satturn vs. Raven- This was a horriable match. Stupied storyline that was revolved around a mop it was so bad. It was okay wrestling wise but u could tell that the crowd was not into thi and could care less. Just a filler watch it once skip it the rest. Winner parry saturn. Match Rating 2.5/10.

3. Christian vs. Edge for the itc title- I really enjoyed this match. Told a great storyline and even though they had to break up they had some great singles match together. This started out with some fast paced action with christian getting railed into a bunch of steel barrels. It slowed down with christian taking control. From there it was all fast paced action christian nailing a spear and edge kicking out and alot of near falls. A awsome ending becuase i did not think christian was going to win. Winner and new wwe itc champ christian. Match Rating 8.5/10.

4. Kronick vs. Undertaker and kane for the wcw tag team titles- This was a decent match with alot of big man action in it. Kronick was like taker and kane in wcw and it was decent becuase not one team cotrolled the hole match. For there ppv debut they did not do that bad. Could have been better but i do not expect alot from a big man match. Winner and still wwe tag team champs undertaker and kane. Match Rating 7/10.

5. Y2J vs. Rvd for the hardcore title- This was match of the night up to this point. I think that it was not as hardcore as everypne was expecting it to be. Only two items were used in this match and that was a ladder and a chair. There were some nice spots with bothe of them thorughout the match. Alot of just wrestling to start the match and than brought in the items. Good match. WInner and still wwe hardcore champ RVD. Match Rating 8.5/10.

6. Booker T and Shane McMahon vs. The rock in a handicap match for the wcw title- This was also a very good match. This was a rematch from summmerslam except it had shane mcmahon in the match. VEry good match but alot of it was controlled by booker and shane with solid wrestling. A run in happened with test and bradshaw were test almost cost the rock the title. So many back and forth near falls that this is a match that everyone will love to watch. Winner and still wcw champ the rock. Match Rating 9/10.

7. Rhyno vs. Tajiri for the us title- This was a filler to cool the crowd down after that match. it did its jobbut at the same time was a decent match. Not a match that anyone is going to rember and almost is like rhyno squashed tajiri. Winner and new wcw us champ rhyno. Match rating 5/10.

8. Kurt Angle vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin for the wwe title- What a main event. They had a match eariler last month which was oof the chin which should have been here in pittsburgh. A very good macth but not as good as i was hoping for. Alot of action from the begining were austin gets throughn off the stage. Action does not slow down but austin does work alot on the neck. Late in the match autsin and angle hit there finshers and both men kick out. Austin hits a piledriver but angle kicks out. A awsome ending to an awsome night a good celebration afterward. Winner and new wwe champ kurt angle. Match rating 8.5/10.

Well that rpas up another. I would give unforgiven 2001 a grade of 56.5/80 which is a 71% which means this is an awsome ppv. That is a good ending for it. U should get this dvd becuse there is really only one bad match on it and the rest are decent if not really good. If u can tell me if my review was helpful or not i would appreicate that. Thanks for your time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unforgiven 2001, July 9, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: WWF: Unforgiven 2001 (DVD)
Although not as good as Summerslam the month before, Unforgiven was a good ppv.(But it WWE had a ppv like this in theese days it would be ppv of the year.) Anyways, on to the matches.

1. WWE Tag Team Champiosnship: Dudleyz vs Hardyz vs Big Show and Spike vs Lance Storm and Hurricane: Solid opener. kinda upset how Jeff Hardy wasn't in singles competition again because at Invasion and Summerslam he had two 10/10 matches with RVD. Anyways, Big Show teases a splash, and it really picks up when it gets down to the Dudleyz and the Hardyz. 9/10

2. Raven (with Terri) vs Perry Saturn: Terrible. Im very upset with how the WWE used Raven, because Raven is a World title caliber superstar. It was the luckiest day of his life when he got fired by WWE, because he went straight to TNA and in less then two years had a huge collection of great matches and a World title. Anyways, sucked. (But Terri is so damn hot.) 2/10

3. IC Championship: Edge vs Christian: Pretty good match. This was when Edge still wasnt an @$$hole that cheats on his wife with his best friends girlfriend. (Matt/Lita/Edge) Anyways, good match but not was good as their No Mercy match, and kinda dumb ending, with Christian driving a chair into Edges leg for the three count. 8/10

4. WCW Tag Team Championship: Undertaker and Kane vs Kronik Belive it or not I looked forward to this one, because a year earlier in WCW Kronik was like how the Undertaker and Kane were at this point, so the bad boys of WCW vs the bad boys of WWE. Pretty good bg man match, but pretty slow as well. 7/10

5. Hardcore Championship: Rob Van Dam vs Chris Jericho: Kinda like Van Dam vs Hardy from Invasion, because the fiorst time I watched it, I thought 'That's it!?! Everyone said this was such a goods match!' But then it grew on me to the point where I watch it over and over. Chairs, a Ladder, Garbage Cans, Fire Extinguishers ext. RVD wins. 9.5/10

6. WCW Championship: The Rock vs Booker T and Shane McMahon: This was another intresting feud because in WCW in 2000 Booker T was the biggest Rock ripoff EVER! He used The Rock Bottom or the "Book End" and he would even be known on occasions as the peoples champion! Anyways a pretty good match, better then expected. Damn Nick Patrick tries to screw The Rock. So does Test but Bradshaw gets rid of him. Rocky wins. 9/10

7. US Championship: Tajiri vs Rhyno: Sooooo glad they ended Tajiri's stupid reign and gave it to somebody deserving in Rhyno. Tajiri should never go past the Cruiserweight/Lightheacvyweight division. Rhyno, along with Raven, a former ECW superstar held back to a jobber by WWE. At least he gets the US title here. (Briefly however) Not very good. 6/10

8. WWE Championship: Stone Cold vs Kurt Angle: The ending of this match shouldve been at Summerslam, cause that match was better. Guess they wanted to save it for Angles hometown. Pretty good match and Kurt makes Austin tap. (So stu[id that Austin won the belt back just 8 days later.) Anyways awesome ending with Kurts family. 9/10

2.0 out of 5 stars A decent PPV, but a poor DVD, November 15, 2001
This review is from: WWF: Unforgiven 2001 (DVD)
WWF Unforgiven 2001 was a PPV that was basically a rehash of the prior month's SummerSlam event. Here is a match by match review.

1.) WWF TAG TEAM TITLES: Dudley Boyz (c) vs. Hardy Boyz vs. The Hurricane & Lance Storm vs. Big Show & Spike Dudley. A good opener to get the crowd going. ***.

2.) Perry Saturn vs. Raven. A disapointing match that dragged on and on and on. Should have been on HeAT. 1/4*.

3.) WWF INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE: Edge (c) vs. Christian. Not the classic we had been waiting for from these two. A decent match, with a dull finish. **1/2.

4.) WCW TAG TEAM TITLES: Undertaker & Kane (c) vs. Kroni>|. Not worth the words to describe it. DUD.

5.) WWF HARDCORE TITLE: Rob Van Dam (c) vs. Chris Jericho. Definitely the show stealer, but probably not a Match-of-the-Year Candidate. ****.

6.) WCW TITLE HANDICAP MATCH: The Rock (c) vs. Booker T & Shane McMahon. It's academic who wins this one, and Shane McMahon's involvement was totally useless. *1/2.

7.) WCW U.S. TITLE MATCH: Tajiri (c) vs. Rhyno. Decent, but short. *.

8.) WWF TITLE MATCH: "Stone Cold" Steve Austin (c) vs. Kurt Angle. Their worst match together, although still good. ***.
----------------------------------------------
The matches themselves are decent enough to give this PPV a thumbs in the middle, but it's nothing special. But the DVD itself is terrible. There are ZERO extras. Nothing from Sunday Night Heat, no special interviews, or anything else. WWF DVD's usually tend to have at least a few good extras. This one wasn't one of them.

Probably one to pass up unless you're a huge Kurt Angle fan.

A Kid's Review

1.4-Team Elimination Match For the WWF Tag Titles

Dudley Boyz(c) vs. Hardy Boys vs. Hurricane and Lance Storm vs. Big Show and Spike Dudley.(4*)(5 being the most *'s)

Good Opening. Parts are hilarious like when Big Show goes to the turnbuckle and starts to climb about to jump on everyone on the outside. I think Dudleyz win.

2.Perry Saturn vs. Raven with Terri

I don't think I have even watched this match yet because it was like so stupid.(0-1*)

3.Intercontinental Championship Match

Edge(C) vs. Christian

Pretty good match. Don't like it that much cause Christian wins but I hate them both.(3*)

4.WCW Tag Team Titles

Undertaker and Kane(C) vs. Kronik

Good match only cause Undertaker and Kane are in it. Steven Richards get chokeslammed through a chair at the end. Taker and Kane retain.(4*)

5.WWF Hardcore Championship

Rob Van Dam(C) vs. Chris Jericho

Awesome match! I really didn't care who won cause I like them both. RVD retains.(4.5*)

6.Handicap Match For The WCW Championship

The Rock(C) vs. Booker T and Shane McMahon

Good match. Though, I think it was stupid to put Shane in the match too. Rock retains.(4*)

7.WCW U.S. Championship Match

Tajiri(C) with Torrie Wilson vs. Rhyno

O.K. match. I think it should have not be the next to the last match though. Sorta quick match I thought. Rhyno wins title.(3.5*)

8.WWF Championship

Stone Cold(C) vs. Kurt Angle

Match of the night. It was just an amazing! Match is really long. Angle finally makes Stone Cold tap to the Angle Lock. I'm not a fan of Kurt Angle(Actually I hate him) but him winning the title in his hometown was pretty cool. All the superstars on his show and his family came to the ring and celebrated!(5*)

Overall this was a 5-star DVD. It is worth it to buy it.

This review is from: WWF: Unforgiven 2001 (DVD)
The Dudley Boyz vs. Spike & The Big Show vs. Storm & Hurricane vs. The Hardy Boyz

Pretty fun match these guys had going. It kept me entertained, and I started cheering Big Show when he was about to jump off the top rope. **1/2

Raven vs. Perry Saturn

It wasn't bad or anything. *1/2

Edge vs. Christian - Intercontinental Title Match

Loved this match, but it could have been so much better. ***

Undertaker & Kane vs. Kronik - WCW Tag Title Match

Hahahaha, the worst match I have ever seen. All four guys are so slow, and none of them want to sell for each other. It's pitiful. -*****

Rob Van Dam vs. Chris Jericho - Hardcore Title Match

I loved this match, but the ending hurt it. Damn Steph. ****

The Rock vs. Booker T & Shane McMahon - WCW World Title Match

Another good match. Though, I don't see why they added Shane into the mix. It confuses me. ***

Tajiri vs. Rhyno - US Title Match

I forgot about this match, but I was eagerly anticipating it. Let's say I was let down. *

Steve Austin vs. Kurt Angle - WWF Title Match

One of the best matches of 2001. Well maybe it wasn't that good, but it was defiantely my favourite match on the card. Plus, seeing Kurt win the title and having everybody run down like that can bring a tear to somebodies eye. ****1/2

There is no extras, so I would recommend buying it on VHS rather than DVD, unless you care so much that you can change the matches like Kronik vs. Undertaker & Kane to Rob Van Dam & Chris Jericho in a second.

5.0 out of 5 stars KURT ANGLE IS THE GREATEST!!!!!!, November 1, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: WWF: Unforgiven 2001 (DVD)
Like never before, has the WWF put together such a brutal and entertaining PPV like Unforgiven 2001. From the opening match to the historic main event, Unforgiven was packed with some of the most entertaining and enjoyable matches ever. One of the best had to be the brutal one on one between brothers Edge and Christian. Every second shown the thousands of fans the true meaning of Unforgiven. The two brothers were tearing each other apart. Although there was the fast and furious Rock match against Shane O Mac and Booker T, the extravaganza of this event was the Olympic Hero Kurt Angle unleashing fury to the back stabbing Rattlesnake Stone Cold. Kurt Angle is the greatest wrestler of all time. He won an Olympic Gold Medal with a broken neck and still left the 1996 Olympic Games, the American Gold Medal Winner and hailed a name as a true American Hero. From his first ever match in the WWF, Angle has performed with all his heart and all his strength and has gave his millions of fans some of the most stunning main events of all time. From his breathtaking Angle Slam to the painful Ankle Lock, Angle has intensity, integrity and intelligence. He beat Stone Cold down to his last breath and shown No Mercy after Stone Cold threw his Gold Medals over a bridge weeks before. It was about time Stone Cold got his butt kicked live in Kurt Angles hometown of Pittsburgh, PN. And he sure did. Angle kept on winning every second and had the match won from the very moment the bell rang. It was the speed and courage of Kurt Angle that captured the heart of an entire world. Millions of world-wide fans rose to their feet when Angle maked Austin tap out and became the new World Wrestling Federation Champion. If your a Kurt Angle fan, check out this PPV. Buy this DVD. It is sure worth buying. The fights have neveer been better!!!!!!!!ITS TRUE, ITS DAM TRUE

4.0 out of 5 stars The Hometown Hero wins the gold!, November 2, 2009
This review is from: WWF: Unforgiven 2001 (DVD)
Like in my title above, this was a crowning night for angle, as he won his 2nd wwe belt in his hometown of pittsburgh. This was during the invasion angle and almost all the ppvs were pretty solid and this one didn't dissapoint. Thanks for reading!

4-Team Elimination Match for the WWE Tag Team Championship

Dudley Boyz vs. Hardy Boyz vs. The Hurricane and Lance Storm vs. Big Show and Spike Dudley

Overall, this was a fun, fast paced tag team matchup. Throughout the whole match, you get exciting action, suprising spots, and pretty good tag team moves. The first two teams eliminated where hurricane/storm and show/spike, which left the dudleyz and the hardyz. The two teams continued the good action, providing lots of near falls and in the end, the dudley boyz pulled out a win. This match really set the tone for the rest of the night. Match Rating:4/5

Perry Saturn vs. Raven

Nothing really here to say, but terrible! That whole stupid moppy storyline was going on at this time as well, which really made this stupid. Barely any decent wrestling, so i would press the skip button for this one. Match Rating:1.5/5

WWE Intercontinental Championship

Edge vs. Christian

One of the best matches of the night. I belive this was their first match with each other and this did not dissapoint. After a couple of years in tag competition, they fought one on one for the belt and put on a great wrestling match. Lots of exciting exchanges, including christian giving edge a spear and just lots of physical action. The ending really represented that intense feel, as christian used a steel chair to get the job done and beat his former partner edge. While the match wasn't as good as their ladder match at no mercy, this left an impression and the two men gave a really good effort. Match Rating:4.25/5

WCW Tag Team Championship

Undertaker and Kane vs. Kronik

This was kronik's only wwe ppv match and they didn't make the best of it. Undertaker and kane are great competeters and kronik really brought them down. A really slugish display of wrestling and the only good thing about watching this is getting a good laugh. The brothers of destruction retain in the end. Match Rating:2/5

WWE Hardcore Championship

RVD vs. Chris Jericho

This was the best match of the night for me. This match had such fast paced, exciting, and physical action. The match had a phenominal display of mat wrestling, unorthadox offense, and some weapon use. The match included various highlights like, both men taking each other out with trash cans and chairs, a couple of hard slaps, lots of quick counters and reversals, and a real highlight moment when jericho locked in the turantulla submission on rvd on top of a ladder. In the end, with the help of stephanie mcmahon, rvd retained his hardcore championship in a great contest! Match Rating:5/5

2 on 1 Handicap Match for the WCW Championship

The Rock vs. Booker T and Shane McMahon

The rock won the belt at summerslam and not only did he have to defend it against booker t, but shane mcmahon as well. The rock and booker started the match off well, with shane jumping in to break up pinfalls, before finnaly getting caught. This is a wild match throughout with shane and booker playing the numbers game to get the advantage. Some interference from test and bradshaw came in to play, while the wcw ref nick patrick was trying to screw the rock in every way. The rock overcame the odds and reatained in a decent title bout. Match Rating:3.5/5

WCW United States Championship

Tajiri vs. Rhyno

Like most people say, this match was to cool the crowd down before austin/angle and that is exactly what it did. Rhyno dominated most of the match, with tajiri only getting short moments of offense. Rhyno gored the heck out of tajiri in the end to take home the u.s. belt. The match really wasn't that bad, but it was super short. Match Rating:3/5

WWE Championship

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Kurt Angle

I may be the minority on this one, but i think this match is just as good as their one at summerslam. Angle really came out more intense in this one attacking austin right from the start. The match really had a physical, intense feel to it as these two fought everywhere. A few brutal spots include, angle throwing stone cold of the stage, each man suplexing the other on the exposed mat, and austin pounding angle on the announce table. Austin had a few altercations with angle's family at ringside, which i thought was pretty funny. After all the physicallity inflicted by austin, angle fought back and locked the ankle lock on austin and stone cold tapped. The hometown hero kurt angle won his second wwe title and there was a great celebration afterwords. Match Rating:4.5/5

Overall, this was a great invasion event from wwe following 9/11 and the hometown hero kurt angle won the belt and the celebration with kurt's family and the superstars in the back is really something to see.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good But Doesn't Compare To Summerslam Nor No Mercy, February 20, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: WWF: Unforgiven 2001 (DVD)
Unforgiven carried some feuds over from the Summerslam event such as the Rock/Booker T and the Austin/Angle feuds. And thats mostly what this whole event did. To include filler matches that weren't even announce until the night before.

Four Team Elimination Match for the WWF Tag Team Titles

Dudleyz vs. Big Show & Spike vs. Hardyz vs. Lance Storm & Hurricane Helms

A solid opener. It certainly got the crowd going. Some good spots in this one such as the Hardys and Spike going to the air. But the Hardys and Dudleys are the ones who kept this one going. 4/5

Perry Saturn vs. Raven

This match had a stupid storyline going in (Saturn losing "Moppy"). Both are good wrestlers but this was the first filler match and it didn't deliver. Both could have done much better. 2.5/5

Intercontinental Title

Christian vs. Edge

You will soon forget about this match after you see their classic Ladder match a month later at No Mercy. This match just played as a simple brother vs. brother match. The same kind of deal we saw from Bret and Owen. Decent match but doesn't compare to their epic a month later. 3.5/5

WCW Tag Team Titles

Undertaker & Kane vs. Kronik

This match was way off. Kane was still injured from the cage match at Summerslam. Taker and Kane tried to carry Kronik but it just didn't work out. Another decent match right here. 3/5

Hardcore Title

RVD vs. Chris Jericho

Definitely one of the best matches of the night. RVD and Jericho meshes very well with each other. A couple of good spots and weapon use. You will even see reminiscence of the Jericho/Benoit Ladder match here like when Jericho applies the Walls of Jericho to RVD on the ladder and also smashing RVD with a steel chair when RVD dives through the ropes. Great match and one of the high notes of the night. 4.5/5

Handicap Match for the WCW Heavyweight Title

The Rock vs. Booker T & Shane McMahon

I felt this match didn't equal the same type of match we saw from Booker and Rock from Summerslam. Some entertaining spots but I think the interfernce from the refs fully took away from the match. Good match and it still had that title match feel to it. 4/5

WCW United States Title

Rhyno vs. Tajiri

Tajiri was suffering the effects of the Gore from Rhyno from the past RAW. The match didn't give much and nothing special to note here. But I think the match was more about putting over Tajiri and Torrie as a couple. A little disappointed with this match though. Especially with what these two talented wrestlers are capable of. 2.5/5

WWF Title

Kurt Angle vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin

Much different match then what we saw from Summerslam. Angle was more of the aggressor and really taking it to Austin. Austin was really selling the beating he was getting from Angle here. Austin was morely on the defensive side then anything else. A nasty brawl happens on the outside with very little wrestling happening inside the ring. But with this PPV coming off the effects of 9/11 just 2 weeks before and the PPV being held in Kurt's hometown of Pittsburg, it was only right for Angle to win the title. But after losing the title 3 weeks before next month's No Mercy PPV, Kurt wasn't due for a strong title run just yet. A good match but don't expect the same kind of match you got at Summerslam. 4.5/5

Unforgiven is a PPV that really just carried over storylines and feuds that were going on during the Invasion Period. I recommend this as a rental or possibably a purchase if you can get this some place cheap.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Invasion Era PPV, August 30, 2008
This review is from: WWF: Unforgiven 2001 (DVD)
I have been a wrestling fan since 1996 and have watched all kinds of wrestling. I have a wrestling DVD/VHS collection spanning over 50 all together. This is the most complete and accurate review of this DVD you will find. I hope you find this review helpful; remember to vote helpful or not helpful. (Note-Each DVD I review has a "Match of the DVD" award somewhere in it.)

WWE Unforgiven 2001

Oddly enough, the first time I watched this I hated it. After watching it again, I learn that this is a very solid PPV. The problem with this event is that it really is not memorable. Most of the matches are only to advance storylines with no title change. There are no extras on this DVD.

4-Team Elimination Match

WWF Tag Team Championships

Dudley Boyz(c) VS Hardy Boyz VS Hurricane Helms & Lance Storm VS Big Show & Spike Dudley

This was a nice opener. Two men were in the ring at the time and you could tag anyone. There are some fun high-flying moments. There are also some nice comedy moments, including Helms trying to Chokeslam Big Show. The ending is weird considering the positioning of Jeff Hardy.

RATING- 8/10

Perry Saturn VS Raven w/ Terri

This is the only non-title match on the entire card. Raven destroyed Saturn's mascot, which was a mop named Moppy. Yeah, it is a horrible storyline. Raven is also wearing weird attire, which features a pair of boxers under his skirt. Saturn hits some good moves. The crowd is dead and the match is short.

RATING- 3/10

Intercontinental Championship

Edge(c) VS Christian

Christian turned on his own brother and is now after his gold. This is a strong match. They battle up the ramp at first and Edge brings the fight to Christian. Christian takes a sick shot to the staging. This was a strong wrestling contest with a unique finish.

RATING- 8/10

WCW Tag Team Championships

Undertaker & Kane(c) VS Kronik

This was actually the reason I bought this DVD. I wanted to see Kronik again. It was a mistake on my part. Kronik has terrible offense, and they sell moves like crap. Undertaker and Kane try to pull something good out of this one, but they just cannot.

RATING- 3/10

WWF Hardcore Championship

Rob Van Dam(c) VS Chris Jericho

RVD and Jericho never mixed to me. They always end up messing up a lot in the matches they have. This is evident in the opening minutes of this match. Still, this match eventually worked itself out and turned into a awesome match. There are not many weapons used, but this is a welcome change. Most action takes place in the ring.

RATING- 8.5/10

Handicap Match

WCW Championship

The Rock(c) VS Booker T & Shane McMahon

Not only is it a handicap match, but bias WCW referee Nick Patrick is officiating this contest. The Rock is not getting any slack in this match. Booker and Shane control this match with cheap tactics. Shane hits a few cool moves, including a diving closeline from the crowd barrier. There is interference from Test near the end of the match. This was a fun match.

RATING- 8/10

WCW U.S. Championship

Tajiri(c) w/ Torrie Wilson VS Rhyno

This was a good match at this place in the card. Tajiri has injured ribs, which makes him a target for the Gore. Rhyno focuses on the ribs of the Tajiri. This is a short, but fun, match.

RATING- 7/10

WWF Championship (Match of the DVD)

Stone Cold Steve Austin(c) VS Kurt Angle

This was a pure brawl. Austin screwed Kurt out of the title at Summerslam 2001. Angle is now seeking revenge. This match is taking place in Kurt's hometown of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. The crowd is electric for most of the match. Both men are focusing on the neck of the other. This is smart considering both of their previous broken necks. The match ends a bit suddenly.

RATING- 9/10
