2.0 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected, March 3, 2010

I was initially very excited about this huge collection of dvds thinking I was getting a massive documentary about World War II. To tell you the truth, I dont know if I can really call this a documentary. It plays more like a disjointed collection of US War Department training films.

I dare anyone to actually be able to watch the whole thing.

In one film, there is about two hours or more of what goes in to the process of making one bombing run. This includes who is suppose to talk to who and what phone calls are made by who etc. I dont doubt that this is very important to making a successful mission, but to watch it play out on tv is ... well, very hard to do.

There is also a set of films about the war on the homefront which starts out with films of meetings etc. It was very hard to continue watching this.

By the time I got to the set of films about the war in the pacific, I lost all interest.

I am not saying that this is a terrible series of films - there actually was some very good stuff in the set of dvds about the war in Europe. But on the whole I would say that from the amount that I watched, less than half of this series is watchable.

Some of you may enjoy this, but be warned that this series may not be what you were expecting.

Also, I want to say that I mean no disrepect to those who served in the war. I know very well they saved the world from tyranny. I am just giving my honest review of this series.

I highly recommend this collection. The footage is priceless and the quality is excellent. I gave it to my stepdad who is a WW11 veteran from the Pacific conflict. He loves it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice item, just wish everything I get from Amazon didn't arrive beat up!, September 2, 2009

This is a really nice set for WW II buffs. It has a lot of great footage. The only drawback is that when it arrived it looked as though the box it came in had been through the war. I am getting so tired of ordering things from Amazon (specifically books, and DVD sets) only to have them arrive with torn or ripped corners. If I had ordered this set for a gift, I would have sent it back for replacement. The edges of the box looked like it had been dropped, and the top of the box was torn. Oh well.
