5.0 out of 5 stars Road to Victory
I thought this series was a great value and a great history lesson on the greatest battles of World War II.

1.0 out of 5 stars little if any original color footage
I got the impression, from reading the blurb, that this set contains another installment of original color film from the war that is finally getting released to the public. However, it is actually from a series called "Battlefront" and is based on what seems to be (not very well) colorized footage instead. There is little, if any film that looks original to me...

I got the impression, from reading the blurb, that this set contains another installment of original color film from the war that is finally getting released to the public. However, it is actually from a series called "Battlefront" and is based on what seems to be (not very well) colorized footage instead. There is little, if any film that looks original to me. Given that there is a surprising amount of the genuine footage available, I've lost interest in this sort of thing. Also, the narration, while not bad, isn't especially interesting either. I'd recommend: "World War II, the Lost color Archive", "World War II, the British Story", "World WAr II in Color", "Perilous Fight", or "D-Day in Color" over this. They have the real thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great dvd set- In Color, May 10, 2005
This review is from: WWII - Road to Victory (DVD)
I have seen many WWII dvd sets. This is a keeper. If you prefer color over B & W this is a must. Who cares if the footage has been colorized. It adds life to footage. It seems more real. Adding color seems to be adding more depth and realism. Our world is not B&W, its in color. So viewing this material in color is a treat. Plus its 5 dvds for a low price. A must purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars That little bit extra.., September 7, 2010
This review is from: WWII - Road to Victory (DVD)
I got this set along with many other sets as I prepared to re-study WWII. When I got to it and looked at it in the box I thought I had made a mistake...but it wasn't. I had just finished the BATTLEFRONT series...these are from BATTLEFRONT, but are not duplicates of the ones in the original series. All these are fresh, new material they didn't cover in the original series. I found out a number of things I didn't know and felt the series was well worth the price. I just call them my BATTLEFRONT II series....

WHAT CAN I SAY? -- THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST WW2 DVD SETS THAT I OWN IF NOT THE BEST. EVERYONE SHOULD SEE THIS UP-CLOSE COLOR ACTION!

VERY RARE FOOTAGE AND IN COLOR -- SIMPLY SHOCKING HOW BRAVE THESE SOLDIERS ARE.

BUY THIS. IT IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF HISTORY.

Only 22 years after the "war to end all wars," the world is again aflame and the free world hangs in the balance. Incredible, mostly unseen, film from all sides in all the theaters of combat is central to WORLD WAR II: THE ROAD TO VICTORY. This 440-minute five-disc documentary takes you into the heart of fierce fighting at 20 definitive battles. But you do engage with war at sea, on land and in the air for an in-your-face combat experience of the crucial confrontations of the modern era. Well, up to that point. Now we battle borderless wars of rising fundamentalism and ever fiercer fanaticism.

2.0 out of 5 stars What the hell, but ok..., January 18, 2008
This review is from: WWII - Road to Victory (DVD)
Well, I can't say it isn't original, but it really doesn't have that touch you expect in a WWII DVD. The people talking are not articulating enough, and they seem to switch the subject and get you lost. But if you want it for the pictures and videos, it really is great. But I'm not keeping this for too long...

5.0 out of 5 stars COLORIZED BUT GREAT !!!, August 3, 2007
This review is from: WWII - Road to Victory (DVD)
Yes this is colorized and I have to say some of the better colorization I've seen. I got so into the stories that I forgot it wasnt natural color. Different strokes for different folks it seems as most reviewers really liked this series and one person couldnt get past the fact that it was colorized. It really goes into some depth about a lot of major battles. Remember this is not the history of WW II it is the stories of select individual battles. You get a different perspective to enjoy !!! SO ENJOY !!!!
