4.0 out of 5 stars Cute, fun, slightly challenging, straight-out-racing
I'm a twentysomething gamer who doesn't have the time, patience, or skill for really involving, hard-to-complete games. (I grew up playing "Kaboom!" & "Ms. Pac-Man," okay?) I wanted a straight-out, just racing, "Enduro"-type game. This gave me exactly what I wanted! Unlike "Mickey's Racing Adventure" where you have to search...

Unlike "Mickey's Racing Adventure" where you have to search through towns and do other stuff to upgrade your vehicles, "Wacky Races" just lets you race. You begin with a choice from five different racers, each with advantages and disadvantages. After winning a few races, you get about five or six more vehicle choices. There are about nine different race tracks, with different skill levels. As you race, you can pick up bonuses to knock your opponents out, while avoiding sabotage from other vehicles. You can also set different skill levels. I played at the intermediate level, with the easiest car, and got more than halfway through the game, so it's just challenging enough. The graphics are also pretty impressive for "Game Boy"--very cartoony and lots of vibrant color. I'm very pleased with my choice!

This is a game that will appeal to kids and to the twentysomethings (like me) that grew up with the show. It's a straightforward racing game. More like Beetle Adventure Racing (for the N64) than Diddy Kong racing. The action is fast and you have to pick up items to "cheat" your way though the race. If you remember the show you know they all did it, even the good guys! You get to use speed boosts, rockets and shields as well as other items PLUS have to avoid oil slicks and the like. The graphics are really geourous on the GBC. The sound however get's a bit too repetive and I think they really needed to include Mutley trademarked laugh. It's the ONE real flaw I see with this game. Most of the characters from the show are present and even if you don't remember them all they're each fun to play. Pick up this game if you want non-stop straight forward racing at it's finest!

This is a game that will appeal to kids, racing fans and to the twentysomethings (like me) that grew up with the show. Keep in mind though, it's a straightforward racing game. There's no finding hidden items or shortcuts. You just hit the gas as soon as the light turns green and try to blow up anyone who's in your way. The action is fast and you have to pick up items to "cheat" your way though the race. If you remember the show you know they all did it, even the good guys! You get to use speed boosts, rockets and shields as well as other items PLUS have to avoid oil slicks and the like. It gets pretty intense. The graphics are sharp and crisp setting a new standard for the GBC. I was really impressed. The sound however gets a bit too repetive and I think they really needed to include Mutley's trademarked laugh. It's the ONE real flaw I see with this game. Most of the characters from the show are present and even if you don't remember them all they're each fun to play. Pick up this game if you want non-stop straight forward racing at it's finest!

I think this is very good game as you can be any of the driver. The only down side to this game is it can't be saved so you have to start again everytime also I have not got the codes to work on it so that you don't have to keep doing the same level. But apart from this I am glad I brought it , adrian

5.0 out of 5 stars Even grownups can play and win sometimes, January 5, 2001
This review is from: Wacky Races (Game Cartridge)
It was a very good idea to borrow the hanna barbera characters to a racing videogame. Each competitor has its own "personality". The game is somewhat easy to play, and is a hit with the younger. It is darn fun to bomb, fire or freeze the car running ahead. Older teens will possibly enjoy more realistic racing games, but for those 6 to 12 years old I can't think of a better racing game.

as you may know wacky races has many versions of the game. first up is the nes virsion. it has you going through levels playing as dastardly and muttley sabotaging other cars, rescuing each other, and trying to win the race. next up the dreamcast virsion. it is a racing game where you explore the town and go to racing areas and race other cars. now for the gameboy color. you must race threw different courses picking up power ups and plotting your own dastardly schemes to win the race. this is a very cool version.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wacky Races-Mario Kart on the GO!, December 7, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Wacky Races (Game Cartridge)
If you've ever played Mario Kart for the N64 or Super Nintendo, you've played Wacky Races. Although there are no battle stages in Wacky Races, there still are plenty of power-ups and different abilities for each car. This game is great for all you Mario Kart fans, because you can just pack up this game and go on the road with it. Unlike many Game Boy Color racing games, this is from a 1st person perspective, not an overhead one like in Star Wars Episode 1 Racer for Game Boy Color. The power-ups include ice rockets, fire rockets, lightning bolts, speed boosters, etc. The tracks are varied with jumps and set in different places across the US like Alaska and Hawaii! The only downside is that there's no battery-packed save, and it's a pain having to remember the password. I just wrote it on the back of the game pack, but I still have to type it in every time. This game is still worth the [money], and you'll be glad you bought it!!!
