I highly recommend this as a starter tablet.. I see myself giving this to my son and moving up to one with more bells and whistles in the future.. But, for right now it's nice to be able to focus on the task at hand.
Cons - i wanted to use this wacom bamboo for creating vector arts from bitmap templates. my target was to use the pencil tool. i hoped that it will give me an edge over the pen tool use by mouse. i looked for reviews all over the internet and in different forums. i found a lot of reviews with a lot of good words from experienced designers. my guess is, they do not use vector creating software like Adobe Illustrator.
why is it bad for vector art?
Ans - the small working area represents the whole monitor. that means, your bamboo is not precise enough. so, it is as bad as your mouse. i do not create arts or designs. i recreate vectors and most of the templates are low resolution (2"x3"). precision is what i need.
my advice - If u are a vector artist, do not buy bamboo. buy the biggest wacom tablet (worth the price) available. otherwise, it will be waste of your money. if u disagree, i want to sell mine to you.
*** Seller shipped my tablet through FedEx. the FedEx driver delivered the package to someone else in the neighborhood. i saw the receipt acknowledgement "without signature" at amazon!. i called fedex the next day again to know that the driver has just delivered it to the right address (i was at office and i live alone).Read more ›
Every once in a while the touch pad would stop working completely and then I found out I was doing something with the pen which turned it off! (I think this was because of my settings) At least that was an easy fix. More difficult was the fact that going through the tutorial there were times I followed the instructions perfectly but the touch pad did not respond properly for many tries. I think I would really love this device if it worked properly all the time. Perhaps after I have used it for a while it will become easier but at present there are tasks that are faster and easier to do using the touch feature and it is a bit humbug to then have to pick up the pen to complete a task because the touch function won't work on it. Selecting a section of type to delete is the biggest problem to date and the pen selects it quite easily. I should also add that I did not purchase this as a refurbished product.
My suggestion to Intuos is to set up the pen with a magnetic holder and to perhaps make a small groove on the side so the pen sits in it easily rather than having it slide into a fabric tube.
