5.0 out of 5 stars Big upgrade from Graphire4
I bought a Graphire4 4x5 tablet first thinking it would be enough for me... It was ok, but then I got a chance to play with an Intuos3 tablet and decided to return it.

Intuos3 gives you a much nicer feeling when you're drawing, just as if you were on paper, not plastic. Resolution is much higher, I'm getting very accurate results. Of course, using a tablet...

3.0 out of 5 stars Review
I bought this tablet to use with Photoshop but found the pen too sensitive for my heavy hand. You don't need to actually touch the pad with the pen, you can just hover over a file and then tap it to open. This seems ideal for some but for me I found stresful for holding the pen since I seem to be constantly opening files by mistake. Then I began to use the mouse with...

5.0 out of 5 stars Big upgrade from Graphire4, December 12, 2006
This review is from: Wacom Intuos3 4 x 6-Inch Wide Format Pen Tablet (PTZ431W) (Personal Computers)

Of course, using a tablet takes getting used to and might not be for everybody.

The pen is very comfortable to hold and comes with a bunch of replacement tips, including a softer-than-normal and a harder-than-normal tips (1 each).

The mouse is actually quite usable on this tablet as opposed to graphire4.

Long USB cord makes it possible to take the tablet off the table and onto your lap.

Overall, a fantastic tool for anybody who needs a better way to control their drawing/photo retouching.

For those, who say it is rather small - true, but the next one up is $100 more expensive. It gets the job done and works great for wide screen monitors without sacrificing horizontal resolution. I guess, for people who paint a much bigger tablet is in order, but this one should be quite enough for photo manipulations.

I only wish Wacom included some kind of handwriting recognition software for free with it, though they offer 20% discount on EverNote products (check out ritePen - it is amazing) as well as other product discounts

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what you're looking for., December 31, 2007

I did a lot of researching before choosing which tablet to buy. Every review I read online said Wacom was the only way to go. I have to say that they are correct. I am a first time tablet user and this so far has been a wonderful experience. I only have one issue with it. I'm a lefty and so when I draw, I keep hitting the touchpad.

I, like the person that gave it a 1 star review, used it on my WinXP desktop with a 20 inch widescreen monitor and it works wonderful. It gets every edge of my monitor. I'm not sure what they're problem was, but all I had to do was install the drivers from the CD and everything works great! I also plugged it into my Windows Vista laptop and it works excellent with that too. I have also had no problems with the mouse working.

I wasn't sure that 4x6 would be big enough to draw with but I'm loving it and think now that anything bigger would be a little bit too much.

I highly recommend this product to anyone wanting to have a tablet for drawing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works wonderfully, September 24, 2007

The tablet works just as well is its reputation suggests. Plug it into a windows or mac machine and pop the CD in, you'll have it working in minutes. It will even work in linux, albeit with a bit more work (But then what doesn't take just a bit more work in linux?).

The precision and sensitivity are great. If you're wondering about sizes: Don't bother with the bigger tablets unless you're completely sure you need one. If you're comfortable with making precise movements with the stylus, you really don't need a larger tablet. This one has all the same response and sensitivity as a big one, packed into a more convenient size.

Furthermore, Amazon has one of the best prices around on the tablet and it'll probably ship free. What's not to love?

4.0 out of 5 stars As with the 4x5 Not designed with Lefties, December 15, 2006
This review is from: Wacom Intuos3 4 x 6-Inch Wide Format Pen Tablet (PTZ431W) (Personal Computers)
I would actually recommend if you're an artist to use the 6x8 which has express keys on both sides. While you can disable them, or reverse the tablet, this tablet which is the smallest one out of the intuos 3 series had right handed people in mind. Reversing the tablet makes it more awkward and uncomfortable for use.

If you're not going to use the Express keys you may as well go with the intuos 1 or 2, since i find this to be a major feature for the latest line of intuos. If you're going for geek bling and want a shiny new tablet I guess this is the way to go, but practicality wise, using an intuos 1 or 2 if you are left handed and use the smallest size is probably better and more affordable.

The wide format however will probably give you better accuracy for touch points from your tablet to match the screen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, December 26, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Wacom Intuos3 4 x 6-Inch Wide Format Pen Tablet (PTZ431W) (Personal Computers)
I bought this for my 16 year old son, an aspiring conceptual artist, for Christmas. I was concerned that it would be to hard to use, but was wrong. He said and I quote "it's easier than drawing."

Setup was a snap. It came with Photoshop Elements 4.0 and Corel Painter Essentials 3. I could not install Corel Painter 3 as it required 89 gig of hard drive space. My (older) computer has a 150 gig hd, but only 49 gig available. So, I will need to delete unused programs to make room. A pure drawing program would have been nice.

My son is a computere user, not a computer geek. So, I was impressed how well he is doing after only a few hours. The size of this tablet was suitable for his immediate needs. If he needs the bigger one someday, he can buy it himself.

ADDED Jan 22, 2009. After a year, my now 17 year old son uses this tablet a lot more than I expected. The more he uses it the more he understands how to use more of the features the software has to offer. He also spends a lot of time on Utube looking at clips of other artists drawing on tablets using similar software and tries to emulate them.

I have not moved this to another computer. The only options right no are computers with Vista, and he has used and hates Windows Vista, so, maybe after Windows 7 comes out, or I upgrade my wife's computer will he get to use all the software offered.

This is probably one of the best presents I gotten him over the past few years. The size is perfect for him too.

I need to raise the rating to 5 STARS. I really underestimated the power and ease of use of this product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for laptops, February 20, 2008

I already had the Wacom Intuos3 6x8 on my desktop mac and wanted another one for my macbook pro since moving them around back and forth every time from school to home and vice versa was cumbersome. The Intuos3 has very high precision rate and repeatability. Also, if you're like me who work all day on graphic applications and feel that the bones in your index finger is about to separate, this pad is a great alternative. I decided on the smaller 4x6 and it fits perfectly for my 17" laptop. However, if you're going to use it on any monitor that's bigger than 19", go for the 6x8 or the 6x11. Using anything bigger seems to take up too much desk space.

5.0 out of 5 stars I should have bought this sooner, December 27, 2007

This is an amazing product, I love my tablet! I purchased it thru Amazon and got it at the end of October and it's been wonderful ever since. It helps so much when working in Photoshop, I used to end up very tired using the mouse, but the pen makes all the difference in comfort and I can work a lot faster. I think I got used to it very fast, and I use it always, I don't use the mouse anymore.

By the way, I got the 4x6 inch tablet, which seems to be great, at first I didn't know if purchasing this size or a larger one, but since I don't have such a big working space plus the cost, I chose this one. And still, even if I had a bigger space I wouldn't purchase a larger one. If I were to upgrade someday it would be for the one that you do the work on the screen, not over a tablet...but its worth about 2000 USD.

I had made some research before among brands and thought that the best option was the Intuos from Wacom, and I still think it was the best choice. I gave it five stars because it is everything I expected it to be and more...now I just need a cover to protect it against dust.

So this was the first product I ever returned to Amazon for a refund which they quickly processed in full. Thank you Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't live without it!, June 2, 2008
This review is from: Wacom Intuos3 4 x 6-Inch Wide Format Pen Tablet (PTZ431W) (Personal Computers)
I have had my Wacom Intuos 3 for three years now. I don't know how I ever lived without one. Once you get the hang of it you will never touch a mouse again. It makes any paint program a thrill to use. The eraser, is where it should be, on the top of the pen. It even has a nib with a little spring in it that mimics the feel of a brush.

Last year I had to learn Corel Draw. I had the need to vector images. Boy, does this help. I don't know how you can pull a node with a mouse. The black felt tip nib is great for this use.

Don't hesitate to buy this thing. I have the smallest size and I find it works great for me.

Obviously this is a must-have for any graphic artist who even thinks of using the computer as a tool. It took me a long time before I could use this well, though. I am an illustrator, so I should have bought the bigger one. If I knew then what I know now, I would have waited, saved money and got the bigger one. 4x6 makes for a small space to make nice smooth strokes on a larger moniter. Still, really nice buy. Best price around. I like the mouse too, nice addition.
Arrived immediately...
