Excellent product,

This review is from: Wacom Intuos4 Large Pen Tablet (Academic Version) (Personal Computers)
After alot of research, I finally bought this for myself at a really nice price from Amazon.com. The academic version is exactly the same as the regular one, so I don't know why you would want to spend more, when this is the exact same thing. Comes in the original packaging, software bundles included, mouse, and pen holder with extra nibs etc. It's all there! So do yourself a favor and buy the academic one. You'll be glad you did. Spend the money on a Wacom, nothing else compares in quality, sensitivity, or response time.
I use this for my digital painting, and love it! The large surface area makes it so nice to create large sweeping strokes. I love the customizable function buttons with the led display next to them. And the scroll wheel is my most used feature. Use it all the time for zooming, brush size, and rotation of the canvas if necessary. If you are into digital painting or photo retouching, a tablet like this will make your job so much easier and nicer. A mouse feels like using a bar of soap to draw with to me, and I'm glad I made this purchase. I have a real pen to paper feel when drawing/painting now. This tablet is compatible with every painting program I have tried, and will run on Windows, Mac, and Linux. (Linux requires a bit more work to install the drivers, but that is the nature of Linux).

The pen is very precise and sensitive. I'm a graphic designer and I'd recommend it to every one who's in this field of profession. Although it's a little pricey, for long run, it's worth it.

It is an excellent product from a very prestigious maker. My son is using the Acad INTUOS4 Large Pen Table at the university in one of the final design courses and he says it works beautifully, has an excellent working area, high versatility and he is the envy of his classmates.
Another important observation is how easy it was to buy from Amazon in comparison with other suppliers who demand a series of documents from the university and their price was higher. Thank Amazon for your service, is excellent. Sincerely Yours Carlos Solis

Completely changes the way I work digitally,

I upgraded to this tablet (the large size) from the Intuos2. I honestly didn't think much of the buttons and the wheel on the tablet prior to getting it, but decided to give it a shot anyway.
A list of the things I like: - I'm lefty and you can switch the tablet from righty to lefty setup super easily. I find that so many products, even when they allow you to use them as a lefty, leave you with at least a slightly inferior experience. It's the same exact thing here either way. As a kid who got stuck with the dreaded dull and rusty "lefty" scissors in elementary school (yes, I'm scarred by that experience), Wacom gets bonus points just for that! :) - The buttons and wheel are an amazing asset. I use the tablet for Photoshop, Painter, ZBrush, 3DCoat and Illustrator. You can set up different shortcuts for each app. The small screens that act as labels for the buttons are very helpful, since you don't want to memorize what 8 buttons do in each app. I used to have to reach over my tablet to press the keyboard buttons for buttons like Shift, Alt, and other shortcuts. Having the buttons on the tablet means I can work a LOT more comfortably, I rarely have to touch the keyboard or mouse. I can't imagine working without the wheel either, since it makes changing the brush sizes or zooming in/out of a canvas so intuitive. - I got the large sized one and though it's a bit more than the medium in price, have never regretted it. I love having the larger work space. It made using the table feel a lot more natural. I never feel like there's something "lost in translation" when using the tablet as compared to working on paper - that's something that happened a bit with the smaller Intuos2 I had. - The pressure sensitivity does feel much improved from the Intuos 2. I think this also contributed to it feeling more natural in use. It seems to recognize those really light touches a whole lot better. - The pen is more comfortable to hold. - The USB cable included is very long. The USB port on the tablet is a standard Mini-USB, so if you needed to replace the cable, you can pick one up anywhere. *Note - I've seen that some people have had trouble with their ports. I've had mine for almost a year now and no issues so far with either port. The one con I can think of: - Nibs wear out very fast in comparison to my Intuos2. In short, I love it - enough that my wife wants to use one for her digital artwork and we're getting the same exact one :) For any digital artwork where there's any manual drawing, selection, tracing etc, I can't recommend enough that you get yourself a tablet of some sort. The Bamboos as far as I understand should be similar in movement tracking, only with less levels of pressure sensitivity. That may honestly not make enough of a difference for some to make the jump to the Intuos depending on what you're doing, so consider those as well.

Graphic Artist must have,

I'm a graphic artist doing primarily photo retouching, and this is absolutely necessary for what I do. To edit very intricate details with the wacom tablet is a piece of cake. I can't stand using a mouse anymore, even for every day tasks.
The only gripe I have about this is that there doesn't seem to be any way for me to adjust the speed the pen moves around the screen while it's in ... whatever mode it's called where the cursor is locked to the position the pen touches on the tablet. (That might be because my screen is only 15" on my macbook pro...) Overall, it's wonderful! I love it and highly recommend this to others in this profession!

Very sophisticated tool, and it's not often a product inspires affection, but this one does. Medium is quite large enough for me - I had an XL Intuos 3 and it was too big to be ergonomically sound(and very ugly in comparison). The wheel, soft keys and displays are awesome. Pen nib wear is an heavy - couple of full days gets through one, and the writing surface is getting scratched. But I like the tactility, so I guess you can't have it all. Like the ID rings in the pen - I made mine red for Rotring nostalgia.

This is a great product overall. I misjudged the size, medium would have been more than enough, but this does allow for pretty much direct tablet to screen positioning, so it works.

The work area is a bit big for me on this one i probably should have gone with a smaller one. I use it with Gimp on my Windows machine and it works great. I love it and am pleased I bought it.

I use the tablet for fun and in the vein attempt of learning to draw digitally. It's a great device, and has a lot of flexibility. The 2 problems with it are: 1) the most used nibs (pen tips) wear out after only a day or two of usage (even when pressing lightly); and 2) size, I didn't need the medium sized one, it was way too big and takes up my whole desktop so that I'm unable to type and use the tablet efficiently when using PS.
Otherwise, the device is constructed well, never any connectivity issues. No issues doing updates to the device. The pressure simulation in PS is amazing, I recommend buying it but chose the size you need wisely. |
