I love this dinnerware. The salad plates are large enuf to use as luncheon plates. I also have the dinner plates, cereal bowls, regular mugs and the caffe latte mugs, some serving dishes and a few other odds & ends. I'm not sure why they are not recommended for use in the microwave. I've used almost all items in the microwave at some point or other - without any mishap.
