I bought the original heirloom quality "red plate" more than two decades ago from a gift shop in suburban Kansas City. It cost about $30 or more at the time, and although I thought it was an outrageous price, it proved to be well worth it over the years, because it became a favorite family tradition for those "special" days with our children--birthdays, graduation, a special accomplishment. Sometimes, even nothing at all except a little reminder, on an ordinary day, how truly special and unique he or she is, each and every day of their lives.

So I was thrilled when I found this matching red mug on Amazon, and at such a reasonable price, too! It matches the red plate I bought so long ago, perfectly, right down to the exact "Cherry Red" color, the quality, the excellent workmanship, lettering, everything--even after all these years!

A great family tradition, and when the kids leave home and start their own families, these items makes nice gifts to keep the tradition going with their own spouses and children.

Amazon did a nice job packaging it for shipping, and it arrived it perfect condition!

UPDATE: The price on this is ridiculous at the moment; I paid only $9.32 for mine a few months ago, with free Prime shipping (Sept 2011) but now its up to $25?? I'd never pay that much for this mug. Very annoying to see such egregious price hikes!
