The plate arrives in a box with a small card inside that explains the history of the "special" red plate in American culture. I'm eager to start using the plate in our new family--I hope to begin a tradition that my children will carry on with their own families. Who doesn't like to feel special now and then? This is a great way to highlight someone and their achievements in a personal setting.

I saw this plate elsewhere and turned to Amazon for the best price. Really a good value for something that will be cherished and appreciated for years. Makes me smile just to look at it.

My family had one of these plates for as long as I can remember. It is tied with so many good memories. We used it for birthdays, guests, and when we recieved good grades. It has been my pleasure to buy one for each of my siblings for wedding gifts.

We raised three children to adulthood, and to this day, they still want to get to use the Special Plate when they come for a visit. Use this plate to celebrate birthdays, graduations, promotions, bar mitzvahs, etc. Everyone wants to feel special and to be recognized for their achievements. We bought this Special Plate for our new grandson and used the marker (included with the plate) to write him a personal message on the bottom of the plate.

I got a Red Plate from my aunt at one of my bridal showers. It was such a unique and lovely gift. We have used it for everything from celebrating a move into a new house to celebrating a birthday. We actually used it at our wedding and ate our wedding cake on it.

I just sent one to a close friend and her new husband. I only hope that they can treasure it as much as we do. This makes for a great gift when you don't want to give something ordinary.

We love using these to celebrate special family occasions or achievements. They are great for grandparents too. We have never used the pen to mark the back, but I know other people who like to do that too.

I have one of these plates but did not get it until I was in my 50's. I use it multiple times/year and record what the occasion was for on the inside of the box (that way I can put the plate in the dishwasher). Recently I gave this as a wedding gift. Think of all the history that might be built around this plate!

I love these plates and bought them for my children when they were young -- for use on birthdays, recital days, special test score grades, whatever to make them feel special. Now they are married and having their own families; each family has a special day plate except for the family with twins -- they need two!

Growing up, my mom used the 'You are special today' plate to let my sister and me know that we should feel special for whatever big or small achievement we were celebrating that day ... making the honor roll, being in the school play, etc. Having the red plate in front of your seat for dinner that night truly made you feel that your family was proud of you that day. I bought the red plate last month to give to my sister for her first Mother's Day. It was a red-plate-worthy day for her and it's a tradition that I want us both to pass on as we start our own families. I told a friend about this tradition and since then, she has added the red plate to her collection of special (and maybe a LITTLE silly) things to do in her home. The more we let those we love know how special they are, the better, so I say, get yourself a special red plate today!

After a friend told me about this plate, I ordered one for our family. I was thrilled when it arrived and I saw that it was just as bright and beautiful as I'd hoped. My daughters, (5 and 6 years old) absolutely love using the plate on their special days and I can easily see this becoming a family heirloom.
