Donna Rathmell German Never Fails to Deliver!,
By
This review is from: Waffles (A Nitty Gritty Cookbook) (Paperback)
I recently got a waffle iron, but the recipe included with the appliance was disappointing to say the least. I borrowed this book from the library because I have been very pleased with German's bread machine books and thought I would test some of the recipes to see if the book was worth adding to my collection. I shouldn't have worried! I could have bought it outright and saved myself a little time! We have tried the Sweet Butter Waffles (they are as heavenly as they sound) and the Peanut Butter Waffles (also very yummy and popular with the kids as well). In addition to the fabulous recipes, German also gives detailed information on waffle making in general (how much batter to use, how to tell when the waffle is done, etc.) and how to adapt recipes if you want to make pancakes instead. She even gives you "permission" to just mix everything together at once if you don't want to take the time to separate the egg (and I can tell you from personal experience, the results are just as delicious!) If you love waffles, or if you've always wanted to make them but were too chicken to try, this is the book for you!

Nice Variety,

I like this little cookbook. There is a large variety of recipes in here. There is also a section for waffles with whole grains and waffles with fruit additions. Since I have a belgium waffle maker, I usually have to double the recipes to get more than one waffle. Every time I make waffles I'll use a different recipe from this book, and all of them have turned out tasting great.

Waffle Heaven,

At this point, we have only used a few of the recipies in this book. We generally like to eat healthy, but when we want a "mean and nasty" treat, we grab the waffle maker and this book. We figure that with all the variations in this book, we will have years of variety trying them all.

The most-used cookbook in your kitchen,
By
This review is from: Waffles (A Nitty Gritty Cookbook) (Paperback)
This is a great cookbook to add to your cookbook library and will give more variety than those frozen commercially-made Eggo waffles. Homemade waffles take about the same amount of time to cook, tastes fresher, and healthier for you than Eggo waffles. My mother used it a lot and loved to try new waffle recipes. In addition to the standard breakfast-type waffles, there are waffle recipes that are used as part of an entree and even waffles for dessert. I bought another copy of this cookbook for my youngest niece for Christmas. Every kitchen should have a copy of this book.

Book Price,

This isn't so much a review as a comment...
We got this book brand new for a wedding gift in 1993. The new price was $8.95. So now, 20 years later, a new copy is between $100 and $200??? That makes no sense.

I bought this book for my mother after buying her a waffle maker for Christmas as she needed something that was going to give her a few ideas on different kinds of waffles to make with it. She could not have been happier, it has over 100 different kinds of recipes for waffles just the thing she wanted.

We bought this as a gift, my husband and I have used ours for years. Our favorite recipes are the oatmeal waffles, no flour used! And the Lemon waffle, so light. All of the recipes have turned out well using powdered egg replacer, if you can't eat eggs.

too simple,
By Berry Clementine (Hinesville, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Waffles (A Nitty Gritty Cookbook) (Paperback)
I have tried several recipes from this book, the peanut butter banana and the orange cinnamon, and in both cases the batter was way too thick. This book may be a tidy compilation of waffle recipes on the outside (think crispy) but on the inside it is uncooked... and far too fluffy for what an ordinary egg white should do. Also it is a little too simplistic for my taste* ... there are no pictures or pairing suggestions or explanations of why egg white is necessary to waffles in comparison to pancakes, and so on. I am considering buying "The Best of Waffles and Pancakes" now to see if it is better, only because it is the only other book on waffles available on amazon.com, though one reviewer said it did not have enough pictures either. Good luck wafflers!
