Product Description

The Wagan Tech 10,000 Watt Off-Grid Inverters are ideally suited for providing clean and silent high power in remote applications for the entire home. While most Wagan Tech inverters are tasked with providing power in vehicles and vessels, these new Off-Grid Inverters are especially suited for maintaining civilized life in remote areas where no public utilities dare to venture. Once the user has their solar panels or wind generators powering their battery system, the Wagan Tech Off-Grid Inverters can provide the power they need. So, there is no need to give up watching TV, microwaving popcorn or baking those frozen pizzas. Write that great American novel in air-conditioned comfort. Most users in remote stationary locations use non-polluting sun and wind energy to keep their inverter system batteries charged. This is truly a win-win situation, local power generation and self sufficiency, all without the unreliability and cost of using long utility lines to supply power. Continuous Use: 10,000W, Peak Surge Power: 20,000W, AC Voltage Output: 110V, Optimum Efficiency: 90.00 percent, No Load Current Draw: less than 5A, Input Voltage Rang: 10V to 15V. Includes a Low Battery Alarm, Auto Low Battery Shutdown and a Cooling Fan. Quadruple AC Receptacles. Cables not included.

For home and off-grid use, Wagan’s 10000 watt continuous power inverter is primarily for people who live off the power grid and have sustainable power through solar and wind. This item features remote capability and also allow for hardwiring into your desired application. It provides clean and silent high power in remote applications for the entire home.

Four AC outlets provide silent high power

This off-grid inverter is specially designed for maintaining civilized life in remote areas where no public utilities dare venture. Once the user has their solar panels or wind generators powering their battery system, Wagan’s off-grid power inverters can provide the power they need. Therefore, it’s not necessary for people to change their lifestyle just because of their remote location--they can continue to watch TV, microwave popcorn, and more.

Most users in remote stationary use non-polluting sun and wind energy to keep their inverter system batteries charged. This is truly a win-win situation--local power generation and self sufficiency without the unreliability and cost of using long utility lines to supply power.

Sample Applications

This easily powers large TV/VCR combinations, microwaves, refrigerators, room air conditioners, power tools, desktop computer, laser printer, DVD player, etc. It also operates at up to 90% efficiency, which results in longer running time and extended battery life compared to other inverters at this level of power. Great for power outages.

Wagan Tech Inverters Excel Against the Competition

Wagan inverters are always rated 24 hour continuous. Other companies will claim continuous power, when in fact, they are only 30-minute “continuous”. Then afterward, their power will drop down to 30% in actual performance.

These inverters are built with high peak surges that go up to 4x the continuous rating to support high surging appliances. Other competitors only provide 2x of continuous rating, which is often not enough to start power tools and microwaves.

Wagan brings you ultra compact models while keeping up in efficiency and reliability to provide you with clean power when you need it and where you need it.

Includes connections for distributed wiring

Living off grid, I thought it would be a good idea to have a large inverter. This inverter seemed to work fine until summer came on. Any time the air temp got over 100F the inverter would overheat and shut down. Didn't seem to make any difference if it was under large load or practically no load. Cannot reccommend. Too much money for an inverter that only works only in cool weather.

Follow up 18 mos later: The original inverter went up in a shower of sparks and fire that could have easily burned down a house. Fortunately, the inverter was in a metal shipping container so no major damage done. Wagan sent me a new inverter as the original was still under warranty. The replacement sat in dry storage for 6 mos before I needed it. When I unpacked it and wired it into my system it too went up in a ball of fire when I turned it on. Since the replacement was not under warranty I took it apart. The electrical fire had started in a row of power transistors. Could clearly see where the arcs had jumped from the transistor leads to the heat sink bar then to the frame. Couldn't figure out why this would happen until I found water marks on the circuit board that showed the inverter had gotten very wet at some time. As the packing had been multi layers of plastic and the inverter was dry when I opened it, must have been exposed to water at the factory. As the arcing of both of these machines was intense, any surrounding combustible material would likely have been ignited. Poor inverter. Good fire bomb.

The makers of this unit tought it as being able to run "refrigerators, washers, microwaves..." but beware. The output of this device is a split-level alternating square wave, which they call a "modified sine wave". Most "dumb" devices like light bulbs, drills, A/C motors, compressors, fans, etc. will run fine on this. However, when I plugged it into my new Sears freezer, it wouldn't even start the compressor. When I plugged in my microwave, it ran but made a terrible buzzing sound. The same thing happened to my refrigerator... it ran but made a terrible noise. I unplugged them right away for fear of damaging them.

The long and the short of it is this. If you are in construction, and need ample, quiet, clean A/C power to run your heavy duty tools, compressors, cement mixers, etc. then this is a great product for you. If, however, you are a home-owner trying to deploy solar energy in your home, this product is not what you want. It flat out won't operate some appliances, and sounds like it's killing other ones! Go with a "Pure Sine Wave" inverter. They cost roughly double for equivalent wattage size, but the output is identical to what your power company provides. The AIMS Power Low Frequency 6000 Watt 24-volt Split Phase Solar Inverter Charger is what I recommend if you want to run your whole house on solar. It even has the charging regulator built right in. It puts out 240 split phase A/C and allows you to hook it right up to your breaker box. You can't do that with this inverter.

The product is not very reliable. I had been used their product 5,000 watt and this 10,000 both are break down after warranty 12 months. The manufacturer will not take any support. From my experienced and recommend anybody do not purchase this manufacturer products again.

The Wagan 2483 Inverter is a super oversized product that cannot feasibly work to the parameters it is sold under, and here's why.

The Wagan 2483 Inverter is advertised as a 10,000-watt continuous use inverter. On the back pane, it has four hot-shoes and four grounds. This means that each post must carry up to 250-amps each, continuous, from the 12-volt deep cycle batteries that would power it. To even begin to build such a monster of an incoming battery system, you would have to use 1/0-gauge (that's one ought) wire for the main backbone, which is 1/3-inch in diameter (8.3mm) on each post connection. Considering that would then require two batteries per post input, you would have a serial-parallel circuit of at least 2-batteries in parallel feeding into each post, it would require at least 8-deep cycle batteries to power this inverter (at minimum) to it's rated capacity. At 100-amp discharge rate per battery, the inverter would completely drain each and all batteries in less than 5-minutes (reference: Peukert's curve data relative to 110-AH rated deep cycle batteries).

So, to reduce load to manageable levels that a battery could actually survive (approximately 20-Ah drain per), it would require 50-BATTERIES (we're talking car-sized deep-cycle batteries, set up in a massive array) just to feed this thing so it can run for an hour or so.

The feasibility of actually using this device to its maximum design capacity would therefore cost around $7500 in deep cycle batteries and $1200 for the inverter, or about $8700 total. Cost comparatively, you can get a very nice 10kw Diesel Generator for less expense, that will last for many years after this has eat you out of house and home, batteries, and burned itself up.

As a truck driver, I often do not have time/money to stop and cook. Instead, I purchased and installed this 10,000W Power Inverter. My truck is now like a luxury RV. I have a fridge, microwave and a full size coffee machine plugged in all the time AND various items throughout the week. Now if my drivers seat just had a built in toilet...
