5.0 out of 5 stars Great Price & Great Product ... Worked Great w/ Koolatron Compact Kooler
I purchased this unit to power the Koolatron Compact Kooler, which uses 4.5 amps. I initially purchased the Sunforce 55520, which was a big mistake. It arrived dead on arrival and after some research I realized that it never really had the power to run the fridge, even though it boasts 5.8 amps.

However, this worked great right out of the box. My first...

1.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't even handle half the rated amps!
I tried to operate a 12-volt fan that is rated at 2.6 Amps and the voltage dropped WAY below 12 volts-- making it severely underpowered. The adapter says it can handle 5 amps, I would hate to think what actual voltage it is putting out if you try to put that much load on it. I have used many generic branded 12-volt adapters and never seen a single one perform THIS badly!

My first impression was that it was definitely much heavier than the Sunforce 55520 and it seemed to cool the fridge effortlessly. I precooled my fridge for about 12 hours before plugging it in the car and the adapter never got hotter than lukewarm.

If you need an AC/DC Power Converter that will power a device upto 5 amps, go with the 5 Amp AC to 12V DC Power Adapter. You won't regret the decision.

This 12V 110V adapter worked perfectly to power my Coleman thermoelectric cooler that draws a continuous 4.5 amps at 12V

There's very little to say about a power supply that works properly. I used this to supply power to my QHY8 astronomical camera, which wants 4 amps at 12 volts. I typically use it for 6-8 hours at a stretch, and while it gets warm, it does the job. This supply was reasonably priced, and it's smaller than the similar 12V DC power supply I purchased to power my anti-dew strips.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quiet power source for FM transmitter, January 20, 2010

This review is from: Wagan 5 Amp AC to 12V DC Power Adapter (Misc.)
I use the Soundfly car FM transmitter in my home to transmit the analog signal from my computer to my home theater's tuner. The Soundfly is designed specifically for use in a car, so its built-in cigarette lighter plug is the only way to power it.

Power adapters with the cigarette lighter socket built into the adapter unit interfere with the FM signal, creating static. The Wagan 5 amp converter has its socket separated from the adapter by a sufficient length of cord to eliminate this problem.

Now the sound I'm getting from my computer through my home theater is clean and full ranged.

I highly recommend this adapter to anyone interested in powering a car FM transmitter indoors.

Despite the bullet in the PRODUCT FEATURES, this adapter didn't work with my car tire pump. The packaging correctly did not say it works with compressors.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised, low priced, June 3, 2010

I need this converter (110V to 12V) for powering a electric cooler (Koolatron P25).

I picked this one as it was less pricey like some others (>$40!) and the reviews were good.

The item works as advertised. Of course it gets warm, nothing to get excited about. I had a splitter attached to it and powered a electric fan in addition. I noticed only a very small drop in the fan speed once the cooler was attached.

I will need another one, I am tempted to try the Black & Decker / Vector CV6B Travel Mate which outputs 6 Amps. Only 1 Amp more, am not sure how big the difference would be. It costs $3 more.

This thing might be great for low power devices, but before you buy it be aware that 5 amps is not much. For example it won't run most air compressors. Most car 12V ports run to 10 or 15 amps so this provides much less than your car does.

I never used the power supply anywhere nears it's rated power but in under one year the power supply failed when I recently plugged it into a surge protector. The failure came with a pop and flash. I cracked open the case to find burnt components. Thankfully, the surge protector tripped and stopped any other equipment from getting damaged. This is cheap junk.
