5.0 out of 5 stars Nice and cool
I have psoriasis on the back of my legs which is made worse by sweating in the summer. This seat works great to keep my legs cool and dry on long rides and I just ordered a second one for another vehicle. I like the product very much.

I have had this seat cushion for about a month and it really does the job well in Tucson. No matter how hot the car is when you get in it you feel cool in a few seconds. I was surprised to find that the air flow is as good up your back as it is in the lower part of the cushion. Another pleasant surprise was the included AC adapter for office use. The ad indicated that was optional.

I would have given it a 5 star rating except for the poor construction. Initially it looks well made but the quality of construction is just not there. I had to rebuild the speed control because it was flaky and was only giving one speed. Yes, I could have returned it but did not need the hassle and I knew it was an easy fix. The fan motor itself is housed in a zipper pouch on the front of the cushion and hangs down in front of the seat when in use.

After a week of use it did not seem to cool as well so I checked the motor and found that the zipper opens up on its own and lets the air out so it is no longer blowing into the cushion. A zipper with a lock could have cured this. I also found that the power cord, which is secured to the top edge of the fan housing with two small cable ties, had come loose and the wires were at risk of breaking. They just never made the cable ties tight at the factory. This was an easy fix as well.

After 3 weeks I again noticed that the air flow was not as good as it should be so I checked the zipper. This time the entire back edge of the pouch was coming un-stitched from the cushion. I could tell there would be no point in returning the unit for a new one because it would just do the same thing so I repaired the seam with contact cement.

It's a shame! This could be a really nice seat cover because it works so well when it does work, and the fixes would be so easy for Wagan to make.

1. Do a better job with the motor control. (Quality control)

2. Put a lock on the zipper.

3. Double-stitch the motor pouch seams.

I got this unit on sale for about 30 bucks, but would pay twice that if they built it better.

2.0 out of 5 stars worked great until it stopped working!, July 3, 2007
This review is from: Wagan Universal-Fit Air Circulating Ventilated Seat Cushion (Misc.)
I used this seat cushion for a couple months last summer (I live in Arizona, today it was 111F). When it got cooler, I took it out and put in my seat warmer for the winter. I just put this one back in about a month ago and it just stopped working two days ago. End of story. But, as hot as it gets here, I'm tempted to buy a new one when available because it does make a heck of a difference because of the evaporative cooling with the "dry heat" here in AZ.

1.0 out of 5 stars If you like a 2x1 inch plastic tube running the length of your rump., May 1, 2009
This review is from: Wagan Universal-Fit Air Circulating Ventilated Seat Cushion (Misc.)
Terrible design. They use a rectangular piece of plastic approximately 2 inches wide by about 1 inch tall that runs from the front to the back of the bottom cushion. There is NO support on either side to make the cushion even, just a big piece of plastic right up the middle of your rump so your tailbone can rest on it.

I tried it out for 2 days on a long trip. It now lives in a 7-11 garbage dumpster somewhere in Texas.

DO NOT BUY !!!

Poorly made, straps broke within 2 days.

The holes in the unit are small and far apart.

The Zipper on the fan compartment broke, which lets the air leak from the side rather than go through the seat.

I was able to modify the fan to make good use of the back portion, but I completely removed the seat portion (not very comfortable).

I've had this in my car for a month now and it does cool you down. Especially around your legs which is closest to the fan. Within seconds of turning the fan on, you feel the air moving around the cushion. I like the concept.

It would be nice if the straps that connect the cushion to the seat were longer in length. The straps wrap around the seat and then connect with plastic buckles. I am unable to use this in my F150 truck because my seats are bigger than the straps when fully extended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money, September 8, 2008

My straps broke just like everyone else but it didn't matter... still worth the money. I don't get a wet shirt anymore. My only criticism is how stiff this product is. It feels like corrugated plastic with a thin layer of mesh cloth on it. I'm sure the more expensive or water-cooled versions are softer or conform to your seat better but like I said, this is worth the lower cost.

Had previous one at least 5 yrs. Really helps to circulate air on the back and on the seat bottom (where air conditioning can just never reach). However, the top strap was too stretched on my car seat and cleanly ripped right off the cushion when a friend tried it out. Had shoemaker add 3 additional inches to both the upper and the lower straps. The longer straps also make it easier to remove the cushion for thorough car cleaning. Good idea.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works, but Cheap, April 17, 2008

I purchased this seat cover because my boyfriend wanted one and I didn't want to spend a ton of money on the other ones that cost more and have worse reviews. I paid $33 for it so what can you expect? The cooling mechanism works great and my boyfriend (who works in landscape in Florida) said he noticed he doesn't sweat when he sits on it. The reason I say it's cheap is b/c the first time we put it on his seat the straps that hold it in place pulled off. It's a matter of poor stitching. I took the cover to the seamstress that I use for my clothes and had her reattach them. She's inexpensive and charged me $10 so overall for $43 I have a fully operational seat that works well in Florida heat.

Purchased this seat because I was curious how it worked. On the first test, I was pleasantly surprised at how it cooled me off in a hot car. There could be a few design changes to make it work even better, but I think it's pretty cool. ( pun intended)
