Most books by consultants are meant for marketing purposes, filled with vague generalities and cliche solutions. This book is different. Using a clear and straightforward diagnostic framework the authors explain how, where and why excess complexity is damaging your organization. The framework is followed up with a very detailed set of solutions for each kind of problem. This approach allows a quick identification of symptom and cure, without enduring three days of Systems Thinking training.

I am using the lessons and advice from this book with my current client. I intend to use the framework and solutions with new clients going forward.

Great book. This book makes so much sense and is a way to explain that gut feeling we get when we know the business is going the wrong direction. Every production and sales manager needs to read this book so they can ID and stop problem decisions before they are ingrained in the buisness

Waging War on Complexity Costs book provides the best break down on the components of complexity and how to solve the complexity mantra through various approaches and principles. It makes you really think about how complexity permeates throughout a company both in good and bad forms and what you can do to stop the bleeding. All too often complexity is not fully understood and attempts to reduce it fall flat as people don't consider all the facets across product, process, and organization. This book shows you how the multidimensional pieces work together and how to solve across the spectrum for the biggest benefit vs death by a thousand cuts using a bottoms up approach only focusing on a piece of the puzzle. Excellent read and great application!

Since the beginning of the last century and the development of standard cost, a cost methodology that assumed labor to be the primary driver of cost, business has become increasingly technology driven and dependent on supporting ever increasing overhead pools. The authors of 'Complexity Costs' discuss complexity as a driver of costs and offer us R-Squared Costing as an alternative cost methodology. Businesses that are highly technology driven should take at look and evaluate the alternatives. This book recommended for business executives and cost management professionals in all industries.

item shipped on time and as described. good book too, actually pretty applicable and valuable. My reviews are always too short. It's a book about complexity costs, how to measure them and how to fix them. It stresses that you don't need to do an extensive study, you just need to start taking action.

If you have any experience in operation and strategic improvement, you will find yourself nodding your head very quickly as you move through the first few chapters. Couple of things come to mind: (a) the authors know what they are talking about on a level of detail not usually seen in books of this genre and (b) they are very serious about their subject. This book alternates between the hooks that show they understand the problem and some pretty complex analysis (for this type of book) that demonstrates they are equally knowledgeable in understanding solutions. This is a serious book for serious people who are serious about wanting to address complexity. Since about every business has complexity issues, everyone should read and understand it.

Waging War on Complexity Costs is one of the most thoughtful and complete books addressing complexity on the market today. The book addresses how complexity affects multiple facets of an organization simultaneously and how no single dimension (organization, processes, and products) can be addressed in isolation. In addition, the thinking associated with the "whale curve," and how it's not just about pruning the tail of an organization's unprofitable products but also looking into revenue substitutability, is elegant. The book also constructs a careful balance between real life examples and guidance on how an executive should think about quantifying, approaching, and removing complexity in his/her organization. If your business struggles under the weight of complexity, has low service levels, lots of product proliferation, seeks revenues over profits, etc., Waging War on Complexity Costs is a must read.
