This product isn't perfect. If you're painting a very large house you're going to burn through several of these pads, so they do get a little expensive, but you get much better results than just scraping. Scraping leaves a lot of harsh edges, where the paint eater allows you to 'feather' the edges.

If you're skeptical, run this test... scrape a section of the siding as you normally would, and then hit it with the paint eater and you'll find that it takes a lot more off than just scraping alone. I DO scrape first and knock the really loose paint off, then I go over everything with the paint eater, getting more paint off and feathering all of the edges. On an average sized house, you're going to need 2 or 3 pads for each side of your house.

You must wear goggles and a good dust mask... this thing can really make a mess!

These Paint Eater discs are by far the fastest and easiest way to remove paint that I have ever used. I took the disk and modified it to fit on my 4 1/2" makita grinder and it really works fast! Highly recommended!

Excellent product. I bought it to strip the paint off an old truck that I'm restoring and it works great. Takes paint and rust off but leaves the metal. It also seems to be pretty tough. I thought it might break down when it hit metal edges but seems to hold up well.

Very tough and efficient stripper. Strips off layers of paint without damaging the wood, just hold on and keep it flat. Replacement disks are easily available.

To remove paint/rust from my truck. It removes the paint better than a wire cup brush, but its not good for grinding down bondo. It will waste the pad if used on bondo. Paint/rust is another story. It does indeed eat the paint.

This is the first time using such a product but worked well in removing paint from a metal roof needing touch up.

These do get eaten up quickly, but I haven't found anything that works as well. I do professional painting for residential houses, and this product is excellent for jobs where we need to strip loose paint down to bare wood.

After reading encouraging reviews, I decided to buy two paint eater discs. I'm removing 3-4 layers of old paint off an old wrought iron fence. Each disc would literally last 10-15 minutes, rapidly melting away. It took a lot of effort to go through multiple coats of paint, since "the eater" would only slowly wear the paint off instead of shaving or grinding it. I only managed to clean 2 square feet of metal surface per each disc.

Overall, Paint eater discs performed 5-10 times worse than inexpensive 4-1/2 inch grinding discs ($2-$3 each). I'm very disappointed. From my brief experience, if you need to remove one or two soft, relatively new coats of paint, or remove loose rust, then paint eater discs will do the job. On the other hand, the product is completely useless for removing multiple coats of hard, old paint.
