This results in excess paint on the roller, dripping down the wall.

Those three brushes don't do what they are supposed to and do not make the sharp edge they are supposed to.

I am not sure if these other people are reviewing the correct product or they just had no idea what they are doing, but this thing is great! If you aren't getting to the edge like the 1st reviewer said, then you need to pump the handle to get more paint going. It took a couple of minutes to get the hang of it and after that it went very fast. Luckily I checked some other home improvement store sites and blogs before buying. It definitely saved me some time and the results are very good. It is amazing how close it gets to the edge, but doesn't seem to get any on the outside of plastic piece by your trim work. It must be the little brushes.

What a waste of money! The roller wouldn't even go up to the edge. Just a gadgety piece of junk that I threw away after one try. Don't bother with this one!

Bought this to save time cutting base, corners, and ceiling. Boy was that a mistake. Had to go back and touch up everything because the paint gets on the other side of the yellow guard smearing paint everywhere. Like the other reviewer said, if you have someone you never want to talk to again give them this hunk of junk. The only thing I could ever see myself using this for would be painting fence posts, maybe. The ability to keep rolling without having to reload the roller in a tray is about the only thing worthwhile about this contraption.

My thoughts

I have used the pads with the side rollers and this is way better. I gave up on edging devices years ago and I am good at cutting in. My wife need blue tape on the ceiling when she cuts in for those occasional mistakes. I could see how people could be frustrated with the smart edge. My wife is bad at painting, doesn't have patience for it, but is great at other things. It just depends on how steady, relaxed, and patient you are while cutting in. The smart edge roller requires the same qualities as cutting in. The brush does leave a thinner layer of paint than the roller, but two coats and you are done. Any brush will be thinner and flatter than a roller unless you slop it on. This would be great for ceiling and wall edges, but so so for light switches. You will still need to remove them, as you look at them closer up and would see the paint texture difference. I painted using Lowes paint+primer (premium can is about $33). I am on my way to buy more roller covers for it. Overall, I would recommend it for those who that have the patience to cut in but want to do all your lines in less than 30 minutes. I rarely got paint on the outside edge of the mini brushes, but I checked at every new line or change in direction. Also if you are not adding white over grey like me then the mini brush being a thinner paint would not affect your painting as well. However, this also shows that with two coats it was enough to cover the grey using good paint

I agree with the other users.I had all the same issues as them. Its hard to believe the other people who loved it didnt have the same issues. For the time and mess created with this item(even the hooking it up to a garden hose to clean was time consuming) I would have been better off taping and cutting in.The paint didnt last long in tube was a mess when changing from filling to brush, paint didnt goto the edge of the roller, time consuming clean up this product was a pain.I bought at home depot and should have realized whent he guy steered me to another product and said people who bought this wasnt happy with it, so I was out $20 and lesson learned. If its too good to be true it normally is add this item to the "junk" infomercial items on tv.Good luck and invest in tape and nice cut in paint brush.Good luck

I agree with the folks who found this product useful. It is very good, but you have to be careful and use a brushing motion like the directions say. I did end up taping the ceiling edge as I am pretty short and had trouble getting a clean paint edge up at the top of the wall/start of ceiling area. Cleaning it is time consuming and I can't figure out how to remove the roller cover from the roller which I think I need to replace.

Takes more time and effort to properly clean after use than any job you will encounter. One-way pump is inoperative after one use. What a waste.

I got this for free. Read the directions, tried it.
I'll never use it again because it sucks in every possible way.

The mini brush is too soft for latex interior paint.

The mini brush either does not go to the edge or slops all over the edge no matter how it is adjusted.

The little roller gets stuck about every fourteen inches of travel, skids along the wall and smears a dripping mini tsunami of paint that you must then chase and disperse before it drops off the trim-work.

The tube is heavy when loaded with paint, heavier than a wooden pole and MUCH heavier than a pro-composite pole.
That makes it tiring to use, but don't worry, you won't use it long because your clumsy wife can cut-in faster and better than you can with this gadget. Heck, my daughter can cut in faster with a painting pad while she text-messages and photographs from her phone. ( no, I am not exaggerating)

The fill-pump is difficult to use and requires maintenance, i.e. lubricating with petroleum-jelly. I followed the directions. Even then, it sticks, sputters and does not seal effectively, thereby dripping paint on your shoes and floor.

The fill-tube is messy and gets in the way.

It's too small to retro-fit or up-cycle as a sex toy, which is about the only practical use I could think of for it.
Even Austin Powers would toss it. (toss away the tool that is! ;-)
