4.0 out of 5 stars great product!
These Paint Eater discs are by far the fastest and easiest way to remove paint that I have ever used. I took the disk and modified it to fit on my 4 1/2" makita grinder and it really works fast! Highly recommended!

3.0 out of 5 stars Works well enough but disc do not last very long..
The painteater does work well on actual flaking paint, but if you're in the situation I am and have a 100 year old house that has about 4-8 applications of paint and the previous owner's who painted and even before them even painted over top of flaking paint then this will eat through your disc very fast. It actually starts to melt the paint because you have to...

This product isn't perfect. If you're painting a very large house you're going to burn through several of these pads, so they do get a little expensive, but you get much better results than just scraping. Scraping leaves a lot of harsh edges, where the paint eater allows you to 'feather' the edges.

If you're skeptical, run this test... scrape a section of the siding as you normally would, and then hit it with the paint eater and you'll find that it takes a lot more off than just scraping alone. I DO scrape first and knock the really loose paint off, then I go over everything with the paint eater, getting more paint off and feathering all of the edges. On an average sized house, you're going to need 2 or 3 pads for each side of your house.

You must wear goggles and a good dust mask... this thing can really make a mess!

5.0 out of 5 stars Power stripping an old truck, February 16, 2009

Excellent product. I bought it to strip the paint off an old truck that I'm restoring and it works great. Takes paint and rust off but leaves the metal. It also seems to be pretty tough. I thought it might break down when it hit metal edges but seems to hold up well.

Very tough and efficient stripper. Strips off layers of paint without damaging the wood, just hold on and keep it flat. Replacement disks are easily available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy paint removal, September 6, 2008

We are currently repainting our house and 3 other buildings so we got a PaintEater. This tool is the best we have ever used to remove the old, peeling paint. It is so much better than sandpaper and lots faster. We have used up 3 heads so far with all the buildings and we couldn't have done it so quickly without this tool.

Great product. Used with standard angle grinder and worked excellent. Quickly removed paint without removing metal and even on aluminum. Although price kinda high only took 3 disc to strip entire 14 foot boat

I bought this in case I needed a second disc while doing a lot if sanding while remodelling a room. Turns out the original was up to the task and I didn't need the extra. I will be using it eventually, I'm sure. Only drawback to this type of disk is that it tends to clog and it is necessary to run it over some cement to clean it out.

The painteater does work well on actual flaking paint, but if you're in the situation I am and have a 100 year old house that has about 4-8 applications of paint and the previous owner's who painted and even before them even painted over top of flaking paint then this will eat through your disc very fast. It actually starts to melt the paint because you have to continuously go over the area and even rapid motion does not prevent the build up of heat, but if you you put on the edge it eats it up like nobodies business, unfortunately this method would take forever. If you're doing a whole house like I am you may want to invest in a paintshaver pro or the version before that because once you get done with your whole house you may have spent in disc money what one of these professional systems would have cost you, plus if you decide you wont need it any more you can sell it on ebay for nearly what you paid for it.
