Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

When a class project on the Oregon Trail forces two class misfits to "marry" and lead their classmates on an arduous journey, they glimpse their own potential. In PW's words, "This buoyant story reaches its destination with all wheels intact." Ages 8-up.

From School Library Journal

Grade 4-5?For two weeks in January, 68 fifth graders take part in "Wagons Out West," a wagon-train simulation project. Dinah, the class clown and the tallest student, is paired with Orin, the class dork, who is almost a foot shorter. "Traveling" from Independence, Missouri, to Oregon, they keep journals, study history and maps, "buy" supplies, and participate in creative dramatics. The students also learn about one another, group dynamics, problem solving, and themselves. In her usual manner, Gilson has created a humorous story with characters that are lively and engaging and a setting that is believable and realistic.?Darcy Schild, Schwegler Elementary School, Lawrence, KS

5.0 out of 5 stars Wagon Train 911 is wonderful!, September 3, 2005
This review is from: Wagon Train 911 (Paperback)
I loved Wagon Train 911!!! I don't like most books that go back in time but this book is different. It's about kids that "go back in time" but they are living in modern times. I read it when I was eight, it's the perfect book for an eight yr. old. I loved it and I'm sure the eight yr.old in your life will too!

Wagon Train 911 was a very good book. It is about this class who is travelling back to old times. They are taking a journey like the Oregon Trail. They have to buy food and wear heavy clothing. Do they make it?
