Rhythm of the Range: Sons of the Pioneers Collection,
By Charles W. Forsythe (Athens, AL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wagon West (Audio CD)
This is early to mid-career Sons of the Pioneers. The group recorded circa 1936 to 1969 (though their successors still perform). The music represented here is from the 1940's and 1950's, and represents good work by the original group. It is not the slick, highly orchestrated work of the "trio" recording groups of the 1960's. Many of the selections have an early "Pre-Nashville" country flavor--featuring the fiddle of Karl Farr, one of the best of his time. Good technical quality, but with a definite period flavor. It's a keeper for the true Sons of the Pioneers collector, especially if you are into the earlier Pioneers recordings.
