Eek-A-Mouse is an original sing-jay who can massage the mind with a mystical voice which puts you on a relaxing meditation. Once you hear one Eek-A-Mouse album, you yearn more. Wa-Do-Dem's title track of the same name is a dancehall masterpiece. Other tracks like 'Slowly But Surely' are insightful and very deep. Definately among Eek-A-Mouse's finest.

Wa Do Dem, Ganja Smugiling and Noahs Ark. These are just a few of ek a mouse's hits. This is definitly not your Bob Marley type of regge singer altough different it's still 1 of the best. Whats so great about this regge singer is the way he sings his regge he takes you to a different dimension it's like your living his songs. Ek A Mouse has many fans still to this day his songs are veary popular and to believe will be for many years. This classic is to be 1 of the best hes ever done even better then his greatist hits. Yes this regge singer has definitly proved himself to be a great. I mean what would regge be with out Ek A Mouse. This is what regge is all about. The way his music sounds is unlike any other, it's the way he sings like bum bum bitty bum bum stuff like that, that has you falling deeper and deeper in to this world. It's no wonder why people always want to get high to him, he just relaxes you and takes you with him into his world so sit back and injoy the music cause your gonna go through a wild adventure.

Sophomore effort of this excellent jamaican singjay from 1981. Most people know him from his hit ¨Safari¨ that is in a lot of compilations. This particular release was not welcome with enthusiasm because its style is more reggae-roots oriented but IMO it retains enough dancehall elements to make it a highly entertaining album, kind of a crossover between both styles. ¨Assassinator¨, OAH, is regarded as his best effort but unlike this one, it bores me.

The rythym is somewhat faster and the instrumentation less sparse and minimal as on other lps of the style and author, and this guy's voice can be either soothing or piercing when he switches to his trademark falsetto register. The sound is nearly perfect; loud, dynamic, with strong bottom end, balanced mids and highs. I was able to play it flat, no eq which is a rare ocurrence !!

The pressing is flawless; no surface noise during the music with the exception of some subtle clicks in between songs and lead-outs, and the lp doesn't build up static at any time during handling or playback. Greensleeves records are pressed in the UK and sweep the floor with american-made VPs. Amazon would typically cling ¨VP¨ onto a UK Greensleeves pressing, only because VP distributes Greensleeves in the US. Unfortunately there is no such thing as a UK pressing counterpart for a VP release, as is the case with Yellowman's ¨Look How Me Sexy¨ compilation, which is plagued by warps, audible clicks and pops even during the loud parts, and off-center holes. So some titles are american VP and others UK Greensleeves. Avoid the VPs or get them on CD.

I bought this lp directly from Randy's Reggae, which is VP's direct sales in disguise as a brief google search proved. They're an FL-located facility instead of the NY original HQs.They have the lowest prices and a great service so I suggest that as the best option.

Eek-A-Mouse I first heard when I found a tape of "Assasinator" in a bargain bin. The cover was naff but the name intrigued. It was on the Jayrem reggae series, so I thought it would be worth the fifty cents (NZ) paid for it. It was and like all good things found on spec, it is hard to find a copy on CD. So I bought Wah-Do-Dem. Which despite the Mouse's distinct vocalisation, is a pedestrian reggae album. Nothing rises above the title track, which also appears on a number of compilations. Oh well, better find a way to transcribe my "Assasinator" tape onto disc...

Wa Do Dem is my personal favorite, but you should see if you can find the Greensleeves Records version. It contains the tracks Georgie Porgie and War Don't Pay, two really great tracks I had never heard before. Those two tracks are not on the Shanachie version. None the less Wa Do Dem (means what's the matter with them)is da best Mouse album of them all, Ganja Smuggling,Long Time Ago and the Title track are timeless classics from the Mouse.

This album is the album that started it for Eek-A-MOuse. One of his best work to date. If you own Wa-Do-Dem you must get this copy because its has three never relesed songs. If your a true fan or just love reggae music this is a must. Keep skanking it to reggae music. 4-20

This reggae singer's Jamaican roots and rap/chat style fascinates and mystifies your mind, making you nod your head and get lost in his inventive language and lyrics. Eek-A-Mouse's "Wa Do Dem" was released in July 1991 under the label Shanachie. Shanachie was a record label that rose from the slums of Jamaica and showcased the heart of the revolutionary music that is Jamaica. This is one of the few reggae artists who bases his songs and lyrics on a drum kit. He is truly amazing.
"Eek" was born as Ripton Hylton in the Trench Town ghetto of Kingston, Jamaica. His singing career began in elementary school and by the age of 15, he had established himself as one of the most talented singers in Kingston. As a fan of horseracing, Ripton would always bet money on a horse named "Eek-A-Mouse." The horse would always lose sometimes not even finish. When Ripton stopped betting money on the horse, it began to win! His friends would tease him about this and the nickname Eek-A-Mouse was born.
A six-foot six-inch tall performer, Eek-A-Mouse has released thirteen albums since 1982. His best is "Wa Do Dem," which contains the hit single "Wa Do Dem," my personal favorite. It shows Eek-A-Mouse's creativity and the beat just takes you away from the stresses of life and into a realm you can only imagine.
The CD cover is blue with a little yellow mouse running across the cover. It would never catch your eye at a music store, but it will definitely get caught in your CD player if you buy it.
Other favorites are "Ganja Smuggling," which tells the story about how homelessness can lead to the selling and smuggling of marijuana. My other favorite is "Operation Eradication.
