Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Wahl 17-Piece Complete Grooming Kit with Lithium Ion Battery (Health and Beauty)
Works good but it's small, the shaver head is only 3/4 of an inch wide. The unit is quite noisey and The organizer tray is junk, (not enough room for all the attachments).

2.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre, not really built to last., February 4, 2012
This review is from: Wahl 17-Piece Complete Grooming Kit with Lithium Ion Battery (Health and Beauty)
While trying to find a trimmer to replace this unit, after a couple of years of use, I saw the exact same unit still available for sale, so I figured an end-of-live review would be appropriate.

For actual usage, it performed acceptably. I used it to trim my goatee and shave my head, and for the most part it did the job. For a while.

The first problem I had was that the metal spring on the blade I was using broke while I was trying to clean it. Wahl replaced it free of charge, since it was still under warranty, so their speedy customer response is to be commended.

After that, it did what it was supposed to, up until I started having issues with the battery. Around the one-year mark, the battery performance started to degrade, and now it is completely unable to hold a charge. I would attribute this to the "quick charge" feature, which can damage the lifespan of batteries, especially if it has no shutoff to prevent overcharge (and since there are no lights or indicators, it's easy to forget you have it plugged in).

The unit is completely sealed, so there is no way to replace the battery (if you have a specialty battery store nearby that handles devices like this--we do, so that would have been one way to extend the life of this unit if I could've disassembled it).

I should point out that this unit does NOT serve as cordless/corded, even though you'd think by looking at the cord's design that it might. It doesn't, so once the battery starts to go, that's it, that's the end of this unit. This was a huge issue for me, and the reason I'm forced to replace it.

Finally, the nitpicks: Hair tended to stick to the rubberized grip, which was a pain to clean off. The power switch was a little hard to turn on and off sometimes. Most of the attachments are better served with dedicated units for that specific purpose.

Overall, performance is average (3), customer service is good (+1), but the unit is not designed to last (-2). I'll be looking for a more robust unit with cordless/corded design to replace this one.
