1.0 out of 5 stars Broke in the middle of a first use. Stay away!
This thing simply stop working half way cutting my husband's hair. He adjust the power screw, and even when the power setting is max, the thing still wasn't vibrating enough to even it was making very loud noise. We also notice that the thing that supposed to be vibrating and attached to the blade was not aligned properly.

Don't waste your time, get a better...

5.0 out of 5 stars Hefty, powerful motor, March 17, 2010

This review is from: Wahl 79300-400 Color Pro 20 Piece Complete Haircutting Kit (Health and Beauty)
I bought this today after reading reviews that it has a powerful motor. I usually get a #2 on the side, and #5 on top. I haven't had a haircut in 4 months, so my hair was a long and thick. This clipper cut right through it, no problems. Only bogged down twice.

This is the first time I cut my own hair. It turned out as good as the barber. This comes with good instructions, and links to Wahl's website with videos showing how to give different haircuts. It says to start with a thick guide. But, since I knew I always get #2 and #5, I did that, using #3 & 4 to blend the side and top. Turned out fine.

I usually pay $15 (including tip), but save money by delaying haircuts for 3-4. If this thing lasts 2-3 years, I'm going to save $120-$180. Plus, I'll cut my hair more often.

For the price, I'm impressed with the quality of the clipper. It's heavy and the motor feels powerful. The plastic case leaves a little to be desired. Everything's loose in it. And, I worry the plastic guides won't last long. But, for $20, it almost paid for itself with the first cut.

I'm usually leery of cheap products. I was going to spend $120-$150 for a professional-grade Oster Classic 76. But, since I've never cut my own hair before, I was worried about making that kind of investment. Based on the positive reviews, I gambled on this Wahl. I'm glad I did. The quality is definitely worth more than the $20 price. And, the instructional materials were valuable for a first-timer like me.

I was thinking when this breaks (after the experience I would have obtained at a low price) I might invest in a professional clipper. But, I don't know. If it lasts 2-3 years it's probably a better value to pay $20 for that length of use compared to a more expensive pro model requiring blade sharpening, replaced motor brushes, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Product that works well and costs little, March 30, 2007

I am a college student, and I bought these hair clippers so I wouldn't have to mess with finding a barber who I can trust to cut my own hair. I had no experience whatsoever with cutting hair, and I've found that it is really easy with these clippers. They come with a number of different attachments that makes the very easy to use without worrying about completely ruining my hair. They also have instructions which aid in learning how to cut, and a nice plastic cape so you don't get hair all over yourself.
Everything works properly, and it works well. Best of all, it is cheaper than most comperable products out there.
I highly recommend this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice for the price, June 25, 2008
This review is from: Wahl 79300-400 Color Pro 20 Piece Complete Haircutting Kit (Health and Beauty)
I bought this kit to replace a Wahl "Designer" which developed a problem after about 10 years of home haircutting and would have cost more to fix than this kit cost me as a replacement.

The clipper is quiet and works well. It gives the impression of a lot of power in reserve, and doesn't heat up in the hand. I was pleasantly surprised by the left and right angled guide combs used for the ears, which are included in the kit. They made that part of the haircut really easy. After years of cutting my hair with only the straight guide combs that came with my old clippers, I didn't think I would use them, but I tried them once and I'm very happy I did. They're great, and if you bought them separately, they would go for about half the price of the kit, making the kit a bargain.

The clipper itself is intended for home use and feels like it, unlike my old one, which felt a bit more heavy-duty. But this one does as good a job of cutting my hair, and costs about half as much. If it lasts half as long as the old ones did, I'll be more than satisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly well made, October 22, 2011
This review is from: Wahl 79300-400 Color Pro 20 Piece Complete Haircutting Kit (Health and Beauty)
I expected this trimmer to be a low quality option for quick haircuts. I've purchased various hair trimmers previously from different manufacturers, and they are always light plastic cheap devices that break within a few months, even under moderate use. Puny. Puny! It's like they weren't designed to handle a man's glorious mane.

But this trimmer, THIS trimmer, however, is sturdy and solid, with a heavy metal casing that really gives it some weight. I feel like I could crack open walnuts with it, or defend the realm from invading armies. When you look at the packaging, you have an expectation of a glorified beard trimmer in a festive mood. That is to say, it's bright and colorful and curvy, which suggests it's going to be underpowered or fragile. But no - this thing has gravitas, and you know it from the moment you pick it up, and then proceed to hammer in nails through hardened steel.

I turned it on and was pleased with the roaring, powerful warcry it emitted. Yes, it is a little on the loud side, but lots of awesome things are. Like television, and LIONS. Lions are awesome. What do you people have against lions? Nothing, that's what.

I then ran it through the brutal obstacle course of my head, throwing endless armies of brambled follicles, the kind with mean streaks and meaner grins, who drink straight from the milk jug and don't wash their hands enough, and have tattoos with the names of all their enemies and ex-lovers. Hair with tattoos, you heard it here first. The trimmer took one look and mowed them down with relaxed fury, literally cutting them down to size (eight available with this set, create your own style today!) in crisp, uniform lengths. I was so impressed that I went out and trimmed the lawn and some tree branches (which work best with the 3/4" attachment). Note: Product not authorized for landscaping work, I playfully made that up. Doublenote: OR WAS I? Because you certainly wouldn't know once you fire this baby up and watch it bring on the POWER.

I would caution using this without an attachment/guard on it, as you are liable to cut yourself if you press it directly. So do use some caution. If you're a wimp, that is. Not me though, but I feel the need to warn all the other wimps out there. You wimps, you.

You can also pair this up with different attachments from Wahl, including Wahl #12 clipper guide comb, 1&1/2. for longer style cuts. They snap right on without issue, useful for those wanting heftier styles. This does lend some useful versatility to the product, which I appreciate. You will appreciate it too.

The case gets the job done, but it does lack any kind of internal organization - there's nothing to slot the attachments into, for example. Things will jumble around and get disorganized, but this is a minor complaint. There is enough room for another few attachments in addition to the included stock, as it is roomy enough to accommodate a few added accessories.

The cord could probably bit a tiny bit longer. Most things are better longer. Except for hair, which is why you are buying this thing in the first place.

In short: highly recommended. Manly recommended. Grab you one and unleash the wonderful mightiness. Hold it high above your newly clean-cut head and watch lighting bolts dance behind you as you part the heavens in your magnificence.

4.0 out of 5 stars So easy to use, great for a beginner!!!!, July 4, 2011

This review is from: Wahl 79300-400 Color Pro 20 Piece Complete Haircutting Kit (Health and Beauty)
Just finished cutting both my son and my husbands hair and it was so easy to use. Even my son who really does not like getting his hair cut didn't mind it. It was not loud at all and that was great for him. I usually pay $26 for both their haircuts plus a $4 tip. This product already paid for it self and gave me a $8 and some change return. Every time I cut their hair from now on we are going to put $30 in our Disney fund for our next trip. This product is great for beginners and is very easy to use and the instruction manual is very helpful. I would totally recommend this product to anyone who wants to save money!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent buy, October 14, 2011
This review is from: Wahl 79300-400 Color Pro 20 Piece Complete Haircutting Kit (Health and Beauty)
I bought these clippers because I was tired of paying so much for haircuts. I did my husband and sons hair and both turned out excellent! The instructions are easy to follow and include color pictures. The guide combs snap on and off easily. The clippers themselves feel very well made and I think they will last a long time. I like the 5 year warrenty and I just found out if you purchase between 1/1/11 and 1/30/12 you can get a $5 mail in rebate, just search "rebates" on wahl's website to print the form. Happy clipping!

4.0 out of 5 stars Must have for a mom of 3 boys..., July 1, 2011
This review is from: Wahl 79300-400 Color Pro 20 Piece Complete Haircutting Kit (Health and Beauty)
I haven't reviewed anything in ages, but I am so pleased with this that I had to say so. I'm having my 3rd boy, and haircuts for my 2 and 4-year-old boys were definitely taking a hefty bite out of our budget. I knew I had to do something. My sister-in-law taught me how to cut my oldest son's hair on a visit, but I was nervous to get home and go it alone.

I bought a set of clippers from Sally Beauty Supply. They were $40, and I couldn't figure out the directions. Plus, the blades were misaligned, and I had no idea how to change that. The vibration when I cut them on was awful. Frustrated, I returned them and got my money back. Then a hairdresser told me about this kit, and that I could get it at Target.

It is perfect for people who want to cut hair at home. There is a clear, illustrated guide to cutting men's hair for you to follow. They give you clear, illustrated instructions on what the blade should look like before you get started and directions on how to fix it if it's a little off. Mine was, and a simple screwdriver fixed that with no problem. There are plenty of hair guide combs, and the clipper feels heavy duty without lots of vibration. This is a WAY better deal for my money than the overpriced clippers at Sally's.

I have two squirmy boys, but their first haircuts with me by myself went really well. These clippers blended better than my sister-in-law's set. I feel like I definitely got my money's worth out of this set already, and I've only used it once. Everything fit back in the kit just fine, and it wasn't hard to get the hair out with the little brush included.

Tips to giving a haircut to little boys that I've already learned.... 1. Do the haircut outside where you can sweep or blow off the hair. 2. Use long guards to start off with, and only use two guards, something like a 7 on the bottom and sides and a 6 on the top. You don't have a lot of time when cutting little boy hair. =) 3. Coat your kids in baby powder after you're finished. It takes the hair off really well and brushes off pretty easily.

For the price, you can't beat it.

The "buzzing" problem people complain about is just their own ignorance to the adjustment screw on the side. Just get a screwdriver and turn it slowly clock-wise until it stops. It happens to ALL clippers.

The kit works great on my dog and on my man's beard. The dog is okay thanks to it's fairly quiet motor and the man is happy that it can trim his beard in half the time his regular beard trimmer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great bang for your buck, July 25, 2011

This review is from: Wahl 79300-400 Color Pro 20 Piece Complete Haircutting Kit (Health and Beauty)
To be truthful, I wasn't expecting a lot for this price. I just wanted to experiment with cutting my own hair, and my son's, without a hefty investment.

The unit itself was solid, and had a latch for cleaning - big plus. This is not a disposable trimmer - better quality than I figured for the price. Maybe a little heavier than other models/brands

All the height level attachments worked, and even used the left and right clips for my son's head. Worked perfectly the first time. I like to use a #1 on myself, so I'm trimming every couple of weeks without any pulling.

Overall, it definitely exceeded my expectations

Pros: all the components, solid trimmer, carry case, scissors, combs

Cons: weight (gotta switch hands every once in a while)
