Heart Rate Monitor with soft, adjustable fabric strap
.

The Wahoo Soft Heart Rate Strap is a comfortable ANT+ enabled heart rate strap that allows you to track your heart rate while working out. It's great for running, walking, hiking, cycling, or any other type of workout.

Wireless Compatibility

The Wahoo Soft Heart Rate Strap is enabled with ANT+ technology, sending and receiving signals up to 10 feet (unobstructed). It requires an ANT+ receiver such as the Wahoo Key for iPhone or the Wahoo Bike Case for iPhone (sold separately) paired with an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad for use. The Wahoo Soft Heart Rate Strap also works with any other ANT+ receiver.

Comfortable Fabric Strap

The comfortable, elastic fabric strap is designed to minimize the chance of chafing. The two-snap connection is easy to get on and off, and the strap's adjustable length gives you a secure, reliable fit. The strap can be hand washed for easy cleaning.

Waterproof up to Five Feet

Waterproof up to five feet to endure water and sweat, the Wahoo Soft Heart Rate Strap is an ideal accessory for beach runs, jogs in the rain, and more. It will not, however, transmit data underwater or while swimming.

Ultra Low Energy

The Wahoo Soft Heart Rate Strap runs on a replaceable coin cell battery and lasts up to two years. Also, it "sleeps" during inactivity to conserve power.

How It Works

  • Thoroughly wet both electrodes on the heart rate strap with water or electrode gel. Snap one end of the heart rate strap into the sensor, wrap the strap around your back, and fasten on the other side. Make sure that the sensor is located on your sternum or just below your breasts, and that the Wahoo Fitness logo is facing up. Adjust the strap to create a snug, yet comfortable fit.
  • Once in place, move within 5 -10 feet of your iPhone with Wahoo Fitness Key attached (or any ANT+ enabled receiver) to pair and begin sending and receiving heart rate data wirelessly.
  • If you do not get a reading, or the readings are erroneous, ensure that the electrodes are wet and have good contact with your skin. Your heart rate strap 'sleeps' with inactivity and 'awakens' with good electrical contact, so a brief physical warm up may be required.
  • Each sensor has a unique ID code that, once paired, will be recognized when it is activated and within range of your Wahoo Key or Wahoo Bike Case.

*** 150-hour update ***

OK, I finally have a complaint! See, after more than 150 hours of Wahoo heart rate monitor use, my average heart rate dropped by about 15 bpm following a week of running at 6000 feet last month. True, high-altitude training does give your system a boost, but I thought the improvement was too good to be true, concluding instead that the battery was finally on the decline. After all, Wahoo's own site claim's the battery's life span is about a year, and I'd been using it for almost twice as long. So I bought a 2-pack of the CR2302 (I thought we had battery spares around the house, but I couldn't find them). I just went on a run with the new battery; turns out the original battery was still ticking just fine, and now I have two new batteries (maybe more) ready to power Wahoo for another four years! I'll just think of all the batteries as signs of my optimism and hidden power.

Where was I? Oh, right, the complaint: the battery cover is a pain to open! You're supposed to open it with a coin, but the plastic around the coin slit is soft and strips easily. Now my cover is all mangled at the slit, and I'm worried I won't be able to open it when the battery runs out in two years. So much for my optimism. ZERO STARS!!!

Just kidding. Everything still works perfectly. I love you, Wahoo!

*** 100-hour update ***

Still going strong on the original battery! Still linking to my Motoactv with zero complaints! Still comfy & accurate! Still ticking off one-star reviewers who don't know how to provide details!

*** 50-hour update ***

My Wahoo honeymoon (Wahooneymoon?) remains in full stride.

For this review, it's important to note that this monitor is being used with the Wahoo Fitness Fisica Fitness Sensor Key and an iPhone4 (and iPad). I will reserve more review for that product.

For the monitor and band, I couldn't be happier. When I started shopping for heart monitors, I realized that all the good ones used a chest strap. This was a surprise for me. I reviewed my options, and finally settled on the suite of products from Wahoo Fitness.

The band, with sensors, is elastic, adjustable, and wide enough not to dig into my skin, even when fairly tight. The two electrodes themselves are situated beneath the each breast, when the strap is fitted. The transmitter unit is situated above the celiac plexus, between/underneath the breasts, and is connected to the strap by a firm snap button on each side.

Overall, very easy to initially wet the electrodes, easy to adjust, easy to put on. Works and fits great!

I am very pleased with this purchase. I purchased this along with the entire iPhone4 bike kit. I use this kit with the "Cyclemeter" application on my iPhone4. It is very accurate and installation was straight forward. I do recommend watching the video on the Wahoo Website which is very helpful. I guess review is really about the bike kit and I can't say enough about it. I am 66 years old so I like to keep an eye on my heart rate while riding.

I almost did not buy this after reading a number of bad reviews, but I tried it. Big mistake. First, you must get a Wahoo key ANT, and they are not clear about that. Second, it does not link to the Wahoo device reliably, regardless of how sweaty you are, or how much you wet down the pads. Last, when it finally does mate with the antenna, the heart rate has never once been accurate. I've love to have a heart rate of 65 after riding a bike five miles, but staying at 65 for the entire ride? By the sixth time I tried to use it, and having trouble getting Wahoo software to recognize it (the utility program would recognize it, but not the other Wahoo software), I gave up. I took too much time trying to make this work, so I missed the deadline to return it for a credit. Too bad. I would not waste money on this buggy device again.

This chest strap is easy to size and fasten, and is as comfortable as one would expect. It paired beautifully with my iPhone in the Wahoo Case, and has given me flawless heart rate results on every ride. Works very well

Bought this, my first heart rate monitor, to use with my Wahoo Bike case. Great product. No-brainer to set up, connects and works perfectly every time and it's comfortable to wear (I don't even notice it's on and, like I said, this is my first HR monitor ever). Great product from a great company.

I love this product.. it works great with my Digifit software, I use it for biking and running.. it does drain the battery ... but my workouts don't last more than 3 or 4 hours.. and even with music playing my iPhone 4 manages to stay alive..

Great price, reasonably comfortable and durable, connects to my ANT+ receivers -- iPad and MotoACTV -- without any hassle at all. Nearly perfect. The only recurring problem is the unit takes about ten minutes to correctly register my heart rate. I've used water and conductive gel without success.
