What is iPhone Powered Cycling?

The RFLKT smart bike computer taps into the power of your iPhone to display all of your vital cycling data on your handlebars as you ride. The RFLKT (pronounced Reflect) provides a reflection of the App running on your iPhone through Bluetooth Smart (4.0) technology. This is a perfect integration of your bike computer and your iPhone--iPhone Powered Cycling.

MapMyRide and Cyclemeter Enabled

The RFLKT pairs seamlessly with three of the most popular and advanced cycling Apps on the market today: MapMyRide and Cyclemeter. Just open up any of these Apps and pair the RFLKT within the Settings menu.

The RFLKT also works with the Wahoo Fitness App, available in the App Store. The Wahoo Fitness App tracks your ride progress using the phone's GPS and displays all of your critical cycling data such as speed, distance, pedaling cadence (Wahoo Blue SC required and sold separately), heart rate (Wahoo Blue HR heart rate monitor required and sold separately), and more.

A Fully Configurable Screen

The RFLKT display is completely configurable. You can design your own screens to show any number of data fields from one up to a total of eight. If you are a total data junkie, you can make multiple screens and scroll between them on your ride. Also, you can display your music, scroll between songs and play/pause. The RFLKT has four buttons (two on each side) to control your music, record a lap, or scroll to the next data screen. Each button is configurable to suit your unique preferences.

Upload Your Data Wirelessly

The Wahoo Fitness App enables you to wirelessly upload your post ride data directly from your iPhone into the most popular training sites for analysis and sharing. There is no need to take your bike computer off your bike, find the cables to connect it to your PC and then upload. The Wahoo Fitness App uploads to:

Compatible with MapMyRide, Cyclemeter and Wahoo Fitness
  • Training Peaks
  • Strava
  • MapMyRide
  • MapMyFitness
  • Garmin Connect
  • Runkeeper
  • Ride with GPS
No Recharging Needed

The RFLKT operates for over a year on a single, and fully replaceable, coin cell battery. There is never any need to take your RFLKT off your bike and connect it to a computer or an outlet to charge. Even better, you will never "miss a ride" because your bike computer wasn't charged.

Weather and Shock Proof

The RFLKT is IPX7 certified for riding in all types of weather and on all types of terrain.

Size (and Weight) Matters

The RFLKT LCD screen is 1.75 x 1.2 inches with a screen resolution of 128 x 128 pixels. It uses the sunlight to increase contrast, as the sunlight gets brighter, ensuring that you can see your data as you ride. Also, it has a backlight so you can ride in the depths of the early morning or late at night. Best of all, the RFLKT weighs just 36 grams. (The most popular current GPS enabled bike computer weights 80 grams.)

Tons of Mounting Options

The RFLKT has three mounting options to fit all types of bikes. Each RFLKT comes with a low profile stem/bar mount, an "out in front" bar mount, and a quarter-turn adapter mount that works with all of the popular 3rd-party "pro" style mounts such as the Bar Fly (not included).

Increase Your iPhone Battery Life

The biggest battery drain on your iPhone is the display. When paired with the RFLKT, the iPhone has lasted up to seven hours in numerous field tests.

Future Proof

The firmware for the RFLKT can be wirelessly updated via an iOS App, just like your iPhone. As Wahoo adds new functionality to the RFLKT, you will receive those updates automatically via the App. There is never any reason to connect the RFLKT to a computer via cables.

iPhone Compatibility

The RFLKT works via Bluetooth Smart (4.0) technology. The iPhone 5S, 5C, 5, and 4S will work with the RFLKT. Please note that this device will NOT work with the iPhone 3G, 3GS or 4.

What's in the Box?

RFLKT Bike Computer with battery, stem mount, bar mount, quarter turn twist mount, plastic shims, four zip ties, 2 rubber O-rings, mount removal tool.

I bought this a few months ago when it first came out. I pair the device with the Cyclemeter app and Wahoo's Speed and Cadence sensors and it works really well. The main benefit of using this device is that it saves your iPhone's battery since the screen isn't on and it provides you whatever data you would like to see as you cycle such as speed, average speed, clock time, lap time, iPhone battery level and ride time. The RFLKT and iPhone app provides you pre-loaded functions and is further customizable to whatever you would like to see. You have to go into this purchase with the understanding that the RFLKT is a 'dumb' computer in that it will NOT work without an iPhone. I like it and since I carry my iPhone in my jersey whenever I go cycling it isn't a big deal and is an alternative to buying a Garmin Edge computer. If you are in the market for a computer and use an iPhone, I would recommend this computer, but I do wish it was a little cheaper than $129.99.

I was skeptical - a bike computer that could sync with your iPhone and use the iPhone's GPS to provide your data. This product works flawlessly and is truly a new way of doing things.

Out of the box, it synced immediately with the Wahoo App. I was able to configure my custom screens in the App and those screens appeared magically on the computer. I was riding within 10 minutes of opening the box. The data was perfect and then I easily uploaded to Strava within 30 seconds of finishing my ride. No cables.

Some other pros:
1) The bike computer is really small and sleek but the screen is HUGE. The screen is the same size as my garmin edge 500 but the bike computer is half the size. It is all screen!
2) It came with three mounting options - a forward style mount (which seemed a bit flimsy), a stem mount, and a quarter turn adapter that fits all my Garmin mounts. Bar Fly compatible!
3) It uses a coin cell battery. No re-charging!
4) Because my iPhone is in my jersey pocket, the battery lasts forever. I rode for 2.5 hours and only used 20% of my iphone charge. Awesome.

I highly recommend this product.

I use my iPhone5 for all my workout data collection - record with Wahoo and upload to Strava.

On some of my longer bike rides, having the phone on my forearm to watch my stats was really draining the battery. The phone would be about dead after a 2 hour ride with the screen on the entire time. Thats where this little device shines. I can now tuck the phone in my seat bag and get much more time out of it - I've seen about 10% drain/hour of riding with GPS, BT HRM, and BT Speed/Cadence sensor all attached. Very impressive. There is about a 1 second delay between the phone and the RFLKT and the update rate does seem to be slower on the RFLKT.

This is a great idea from a very innovative company, but I'm really looking forward to a more refined version down the road. The computer seems very cheaply made for what it costs. It also seems like Wahoo is trying to make everyone happy with all the mounting options. I know the Garmin-style mount was a later addition, but I'd really like to see this fully integrated into the computer and not as a removable option. Then include a cheap 1/4 circle adapter and some rubber bands for the stem and an out front style mount similar to SRAM or Barfly's - or at least the option to purchase.

The plastic is very easy to marr up when changing mounts, but using the Garmin 1/4 turn adapter solves that issue. There seems to be an issue with the top left button where it will "sink" into the computer and not register a press when its pressed at certain angles - like there is not enough support around the switch. I returned my first RFLKT for this reason and the second one had the same issue, so I'm guessing its a design flaw.

I'm looking forward to the second iteration of this device down the road.

I really thought that the RFLKT would be a great idea for my bicycle. The integration with the iPhone via Bluetooth seemed like a perfect fit. The problem arrises when you want to put your iPhone in the back pocket of your bicycle jersey. Your body interferes with the Bluetooth signal and the RFLKT loses track of it and turns off. It was really frustrating to be on a ride and have it turn off all of the time. When you turn it back on it restarts your ride and messes up your tracking. They discuss this on their support page, but their answer is to keep your phone in you saddle bag. I shouldn't have to change the way I ride just to get tracking. I am going to return it and get a Garmin 510.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
If you're reading reviews for this unit, chances are you're already aware of the problem that it attempts to solve; using your phone as a cycle computer tends to drain a battery faster than a taser-wielding officer on "Cops". There are a couple of ways to solve this problem. You can get a dynamo hub or some other similar power generator, powering your phone off of the spinning of the wheel. But this necessarily adds friction to an area where you'd really rather not add friction. You could give up on your phone entirely and just add a dedicated cycle computer. Not nearly as convenient when you want to upload your route, share your data, look at a map, etc.

So in my mind, that leaves the two best available options: reduce the battery drain or increase the battery capacity. The Wahoo RFLKT uses the former method. The unit is pretty easy to setup initially, and firmware updates can be installed using the phone app. A decent length ride for me is about 2.5 hours, and the phone will make it to the end when I'm using the RFLKT computer for display.

However, I don't know if maybe it's the app I'm using (MapMyRide+) but I still have a significantly drained battery after the 2.5 hours. I'm also not sure about the screen configuration -- you can change the configuration in the Wahoo app, but I think it's app-specific. I don't see a way to change the screen layout in MapMyRide+. That's not a huge deal though, and ultimately if it's up to the app manufacturer to build support for that, it's not the unit's fault if they don't. Similarly, assuming the app has a say in which buttons do what, it may not be the unit's fault that I can start music in MapMyRide+ by pressing one of the side buttons, but no button seems to turn the music off once it has started.
