4.0 out of 5 stars Rocking Fun from the early days!, January 7, 2010
By

This review is from: Wailing Sounds (Audio CD)
Ok, here is the story, waaayyy back in the days of vinyl, when CD's were first coming out, my friends and I were such huge Zeppelin (and music) JUNKIES. I don't think they had even released more than one or two of the Zeppelin albums on CD yet, and my good buddy buys this bootleg CD called "Smoke and Fire" (which is this album in different title) He said it was so damn bad that he wouldn't even let me listen to it. Well, I have always been able to handle the bootleg stuff much more easily than others, so I finally basically stole it from him, and I never gave it back! LIke the description says, it has an amazing number of players on it. On first listen, the vocals sound quite rough, but the music is GREAT! Over the years I still spin this from time to time, there are some fun songs on it. $27 is a bit steep in my opinion, I"m suprised that it is even available. Cheers.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Ever-Wailing Sounds of Screming Lord Sutch, February 6, 2010
By

This review is from: Wailing Sounds (Audio CD)
This is yet another repackaging of the Screamin' Lord Sutch material. In the late 60s a couple albums surfaced By Lord Sutch including performances by virtually every "A" list London Rocker of the age aside from a Beatle. After listening to Lord Sutch and His Heavy Friends, it rather seemed more like little Lord Fontleroy had paid the best London Rockers to play on his records than that they were his Heavy Friends at all. Lame material for complete-ists only. One shining spot is Jeff Beck's guitar on the song "Gutty Guitar".
This material seems also to be repackaged at random with another set of Jimmy Page-involved recordings - those with one Keith de Groot as vocalist.
I will not sort these out for you here, just be aware that I have counted no more than 12 Lord Sutch recordings making these rounds and 14 of the de Groot material. To confuse the matter more, there are additional compilations of the Jimmy Page & Eric Clapton "L.A. Breakdown/Down In The Boots" tapes included with the other material, from time to time. Those were originally on Immediate Records in the 60s.
Some of the recent CD titles to look for, if you're interested in many versions of the same mediocre rock songs over and over are: "Wailing Sounds" "No Introduction Necessary", "Smoke & Fire" and "The Jimmy Page Collection" from The Legends Collection (?).
The first two of these has everything with a minimal but confusing amount of crossover, but then you'll be missing the Immediate stuff! Well, that's part of collecting, baby!
